Here is a simmilar hammock on amazon, but it does not include palm trees. ($18.85)
It's the most similar thing I could find on Amazon.
Pro tip: Don't search all of amazon for "Banana Hammock". Your results will not turn up well.
What about a hammock on a stand? They collapse down small, but still very comfortable for sleeping (source: have slept in hammock on a stand).
ETA: Like this.
Also, as a teacher, I GUARANTEE the thing he will appreciate most is a letter from you, his students. Did you do a production of a play that was particularly significant, or study a playwright that he helped you fall in love with? Buy a copy of that play, and have each of you sign/write a message on the book covers/pages of the play. He will always remember you, and the time you guys all spent together.
I have a Grand Trunk Brand Hammock that looks and feels just like the expensive Eno hammocks, but i got it off Amazon for $19.99. It doesn't come with straps, but I found an awesome set of straps for $4.99 on Amazon as well. If you are interested, let me know and I will send you the links! Edit: spelling, and heres the link for the hammock: Grand Trunk Ultralight Hammock (Forest Green) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AIHB76/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_VHywxbV0QYDTV
I am almost the exact size as you, I'm a little taller. I use a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC with the standard suspension. Being as tall as you are 11 foot is a must for a comfortable night's sleep. When camping there would be no room for second person in the Blackbird.
While hanging out in the back yard I have a Vivere hammock hooked to tree and metal clothes line post. My wife and I lay in it every nice day with no problems. Here's a link to Amazon and it includes a stand. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004YJCP7O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_EmXRzb2P4D9PV
I would discourage you from using 4x4s. Before I got my clothes line post I tried to use a 4x4 and it snapped off at the ground and hit me in the head. It hurt quite a bit and I felt like an asshole.
1 is probably the best bet. I've seen this hammock recommended on this sub before and it defintely looks like a really good hammock for the price.
i just got this and i kinda love it. https://www.amazon.com/11ft-Camping-Hammock-Mosquito-Net/dp/B07NZJ197L/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=ridge+hammock&qid=1602890355&sr=8-5
i swapped out all the suspension for lighter stuff and it came out to 24.5oz.
My black lab shredded my expensive DutchWare Chameleon one night while we were in it 😢 (Adding injury to insult, I had it set up in my garage, above the concrete floor! Good thing I was hanging low -- I ended up with a slightly bruised butt but no real damage 😛) Even though I keep his nails trimmed, they're still there and dog nails aren't retractable 🙁
I ended up replacing my Chameleon with a $50 knockoff made out of sturdier material, because I'm not going to stop letting him snuggle with me -- listening to him cry all night because he's cold/scared/lonely makes me feel like a monster and besides, he adds like 10˚ to my sleep system! I figure even the sturdier material might eventually shred, but I can replace it a couple more times before I've equaled the price of my Chameleon 🤷🏽♀️
Actually, he's sleeping in my indoor hammock right now, which is a netless version by the same company 😆 I've had it for 9 months now, and he's in it daily -- so far although I can see one spot where his nail snagged, the tiny hole hasn't spread. I guess the ripstop is doing its job 😀
Mr. smells got me this last year and this, along with a different gift, has earned him the title of Best Gift Giver. I don’t love the look of a standing hammock, but it’s so comfy and cozy and super easy to put together and take apart for winter. It’s the best. The color he got was out of stock for a bit, and I think a few may be now, but there are a ton of color options.

I recently tried this Ridge Outdoor Gear hammock, the Pinnacle 360. It isn't too heavy. It has a zip bug net that is removable. It comes with a structural ridgeline and small organizer. I also like the double-ended stuff sack which makes deploying and stowing it easier (in my opinion). I also liked the price, $65, which seems good for all the nice features.

I have and like the pinnacle 180 hammock. It doesn't seem to be available anymore, but the 360 version is.
I've seen a few people mention the onewind hammock on amazon as a 11ft option that is more economical.
Both are more economical 11 ft hammocks.
Of course, there are also lots of good things said about the normal cottage vendor hammocks you see on here.
I've really enjoyed my pinnacle hammock (https://smile.amazon.com/11ft-Camping-Hammock-Mosquito-Net/dp/B07P1NWGL4). It is a pretty decent price for an 11 foot hammock with a bugnet.
I have a have a cheaper setup and i was looking at dutchware gear, but for $30 for the buckles with straps included, these look great.
After about 10 hangs I was getting sick of wrapping the straps it came with around the trees multiple times in order to make adjustments.
You could buy the ENO Guardian bug net. It's an okay bug net, although the zipper is kind of finnicky. Sort of a pain to setup and take down, but it works.
It might be worth paying a little more, and going for a hammock with a built in bug net. The Ridge Outdoor Gear hammocks are actually pretty good. A more comfortable hammock to sleep in than an ENO, due the extra length and structural ridgeline. The zipper is also easier to use, and no having to setup a bug net because it's already built into the hammock.
I've never seen a combination bug net with a tarp. But if you're after an inexpensive tarp, I can highly recommend the Foxelli Outdoor diamond tarp. It's inexpensive and surprisingly good.
I slept in something like this for most of 2020. I think as long as it’s cotton and a double nest you should be good!
I've had my Grand Trunk skeeter beeter pro for 7 years. Bug net is still intact despite snags on branches and gear. I paid close to $100 for it back then. Now you can find it on Amazon for $59.97. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AIFLX2/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_8F3KQHMJYN76S25Q568W?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I didn't read all the comments so this may be a repeat of what others have said. Unless you're shorter than average, make sure whatever you go with is at least 11 feet long and longer if you're over six feet tall.
One of the best bargains out there is the Ridge Outdoors Pinnacle line.
I don't own one but saw them at Hangcon a couple of years ago and met several people who use them.
Check out Ridge Pinnacle 180 or 360. They are a lot of hammock for the money.
Vivere Double Cotton Hammock with Space Saving Steel Stand, Tropical (450 lb Capacity - Premium Carry Bag Included) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YJCP7O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_P07BG5RZR6MPYERVH4VH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is the hammock stand I use outside, I’m sure it would also work indoors if you have the space. 🙃 the hammock itself lasted a few years of being outside all year. It finally got to that brittle crackly moldy stage so I replaced just the hammock with another one from the same brand.
If you are going to get the stand only, I’d recommend getting your hammock out of storage first and measuring it to make sure it fits. I tried buying a cheaper hammock separately for my stand and it was too short so I returned it and purchased the same hammock that comes with the stand.
This was Allegheny National Forest.
The hammock is a Ridge Outdoor Gear, cheaper but decent quality.

Depending on the style of hammock, that’s not a risk. The two times I’ve done it were in something like this-
https://www.amazon.com/Vivere-Double-Hammock-Space-Saving-Tropical/dp/B004YJCP7O
Really hard to fall out of! If you’re thinking about the style where there are bars at each end holding the cloth flat, that could be…interesting.
If you want to actually camp, and you have some money to spend, and you want it to be super easy, then get the Wanderlust or Wanderluxe kit with insulation from hammockgear.com - simple, everything included, easy, nothing to think about, and with the discount they offer when buying the kit, you really aren't going to beat the price for the quality and lightweight you get.
If you just want a hammock, this is the best one on Amazon:

You could also go for the 360 version of you need the net to zip all the way down.
I have the old model of this and it's great. This upgraded model has pretty much all of the things I swapped out on the old model. You'll still need to find a tarp and insulation and fix up all the knots and ropes and whatnot. The Hammock Gear stuff is all knotless and pre assembled.
That makes a lot of sense. For me, the game changer was realizing that the cocoon style ones are much easier to get in and out of, and much more comfortable as well. Specifically, I got this one because of the first review, which is from a 450 pound lady who was kind enough to post multiple pics of her and her similarly large friends enjoying it.

But your worries and concerns are totally valid as well, I just wanted to suggest this as a possible option in case you’d only ever been on a rigid style hammock before.
I have this freestanding hammock stand which is amazing and has held up through 3yrs of being outside year-round as well as 5 camping festivals!
I've had to replace the hammock itself due to weather damage but the frame is good as new.
Take a look at the Pinnacle 180, Ridge outdoor gear hammock on Amazon. Linked here. This is a great beginner set for $50 and comes with the bug net and ridgeline attached, as well as some relatively light weight suspension. It’s also 11’ long so that would be enough for someone of your height.
Overall great beginner hammock, I have it and have had no issues yet. Not the lightest or the “best” out there, but IMO it’s the best value for the $$$.
The wise owl is only 10' and is missing a ridgeline and bugnet.

Get this ridge hammock. I've replaced my dutchware netless with different extra nets with this ridge and it's awesome. If you like it, you can always upgrade to lighter straps or another ridgeline later, but for under $50 you get a full on hammock kit.
Also do yourself a favor and get an underquilt. For synthetic, get a jarbidge from arrowhead equipment. I love mine, but wish I'd have gone down for the compressibility. For down, go hammock gear for not much more in price. You can still use your bag as a top quilt or order an extra.
Or... where are you hiking along the AT? If you're anywhere south of Maryland in June I will probably be taking a trip at some point for a couple days and can just let you borrow one of my hammock setups. Would probably be my dutchware netless that I've replaced, but you'd at least see why I swapped it out. Let me know.
I got this as my intro to Camping Hammocks and am well pleased with it. I plan to pass it to my kids on camping trips as I’ll soon upgrade to one of the “Small Batch Artisan Hammock Shops” now that I’ve learned how to get a good hang and tarp setup.
I went the cheap amazon route and bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YJCP7O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've had it for a little over a year and it holds my 6'2" 300lb body very comfortably. Many a summer nap had in the hammock
I wouldn't bother with Eno or Kammock. They're both way overpriced for what they are. If you're looking for a great camping hammock on the cheap, check out the Ridge Outdoor Pinnacle hammock (linked below). They have 2 versions- one with a half-zip net, and the other with a fully removable net. What's great about this hammock is it's 11' long (more comfy), and the body is made from one piece of fabric. This is better because you won't be laying on seams, and it will allow you to get a better diagonal lay and feel less restricted than the triple-panel hammocks.
