The boy in the photo went on to become an editor for Ebony magazine. He wrote about a book about his experience growing up in Nazi Germany as a biracial, Black boy. Apparently he wore that patch to fit in with all the other little boys at school, even though black people were prohibited from joining the Hitler Jungen.
He confirms that it was, indeed, racist as fuck.

Man...what an amazing book...thanks for brining back the memories. I do not recall the parts about gernades. But his personal account of his experiences on the Eastern Front...wow...
So what should he have done? Refuse to follow orders? Run away and be shot for desertion? Not every German was an evil human being during that war.
I’d recommend reading up on it. One of my all time favorite books about WWII is A Higher Call by Adam Makos which is about a German fighter pilot who escorted a damaged American Bomber back home instead of shooting it down. Check it out!
Hitler had all kinds of stomach problems. Chronic flatulence was one of the side effects. You can google to find articles but I first read about it in this book.
You are aware that Belgium, Britain, France, and the US also had concentration camps right? I grew up in Germany and the USA. Only one of these countries recognizes their crimes in their schools and history books. Can you name any US concentration camps, whether for Japanese Americans, Cubans, or Filipinos? I cannot talk about the past in terms of facts in the United States without risking finding someone to shout down facts with jingoistic patriotism. We know Hitler took inspiration from American and Ottoman purges of Native Americans, Armenians, because he said so.
Comparing evil is difficult. Is a calculating evil worse than a chaotic evil? Does death and suffering count? Do we compare absolute numbers, or length of time? The Nazis are bad, and they were in power for 12 years, and killed millions of people. The US enslaved, murdered, and terrorized millions for centuries. I don't feel the need to say the US is worse than Nazi Germany: Apples and Oranges are both fruit, but are very different. But your point seems to be that, if the United States is an Orange and Germany is an Apple, you take issue with the United States also being sweet like Germany, when they're both fruit
In Adolf Hitler: The Definitive Biography, by John Toland: the author states
>Hitler’s concept of concentration camps as well as the practicality of genocide owed much, so he claimed, to his studies of English and United States history ... He admired the camps for Boer prisoners in South Africa and for the Indians in the wild west; and often praised to his inner circle the efficiency of America’s extermination—by starvation and uneven combat—of the red savages who could not be tamed by captivity.”
That is the most relevant quote I could find, maybe I'll look again after more coffee.
That's funny, They want to stop trump from writing a book.
but Amazon still sells Mein Kampf and no one bats an eye

We truly live in clown world.
Yes ... I highly recommend the Book "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos (essentially a "Double Biography" telling these 2 mens' life stories and how they intertwine) I have given it as a gift to several friends who like history or aviation. Link to A Higher Call Book on Amazon
I just finished and really enjoyed The Faithful Executioner: Life and Death, Honor and Shame in the Turbulent Sixteenth Century which is built on the journal of Franz Schmidt who was the master executioner for the city of Nuremburg for over 50 years. It has a lot to say on normal professional life, as well as crime, punishment and identity during that time. Really fascinating read
> The Nazis were not particularly anti-black despite people claiming they are.
The nazis didnt need any speficic program targeting black people since
a) their racist opinion on black people wasnt controversial at all among
german people or all other western countries
b) there was no actual need to target them aside from the "common practice"
c) they had nothing to gain from frenetically attacking the handful black people
in Germany let alone those who were far far away from Germany and
didnt play any role in future plans (aka "Osterweiterung").
d) the Olympic games played a great role in maintained a "civilized" appearance
toward their adversaries (i.e. the US, UK etc). While Owens did ruin the
main goal showcasing the aryan superiority, they still gained some positive
PR as in "look, we let even this negro run on our turf, we aint that bad, right?"
I really enjoyed The Alchemy of Air which talks about some of the origins of the field. I had to practice public speaking after getting some negative feedback on my presentation skills at work, and ended up co-opting a lot of the story for this TEDx talk
A Higher Call: An Incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War-Torn Skies of World War II, by Adam Makos. I think Par Sundstrom actually read the book and mentioned it to Joakim Broden and things just kinda went from there. It's an excellent book, one I cannot recommend highly enough.
If you want to know about guano, nations fought wars over it.
sometimes you are surprised at how good a book can be. Real history that reads like a detective novel.
The Alchemy of Air is about the Haber-Bosch process for nitrogen fixation, without which current world population levels would be impossible but at the same time is used for making explosives, making WWI as terrible as it was. It does a great job highlighting the dual-use nature of science but also of humanizing the engineers/scientists behind it all and telling their story.
>Let's assume that's true... So what? What gives you the right to stop me from hearing the ideas of someone who is in favor of genocide?
You understand that genocide… is violent, right? Calling for violence is not protected speech. If you call for the extermination of an ethnic group, you are threatening those people with violence, and rallying other people who want to commit violence to join you.
>I might want to read Mein Kampf one day, who the fuck are you to stop me?
Nobody’s gonna stop you, in fact you can buy it on Amazon. You’re free to read that text all you want, because its very historically significant. The difference is when you organize with others, using the language and symbols of this genocidal group, and start spreading hate, intimidation, threats, and violence.
This is absolutely ridiculous.... I mean seriously, how legit could this meltdown be on the "trauma" of Matt Walsh's book, yet absolutely zero, I repeat ZERO, outrage or trauma from the same Amazon employees that have Hitler's Mein Kampf for sale..

For real. I… I think it may be for the best. The US should sanction him though (is that something we can do to citizens?) or something. They already tried sending a fascist strongman to jail, and it only served to empower his movement. He also wrote a book while he was there. You might’ve heard of it.
Varg? Nazi? Varg has been an avid supporter of the LGTBQ+ community and the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. You should read his book https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0024FA18K/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_ZJ67DGSANXNS8ZC7ZGJJ

“In the pages of Mein Kampf Hitler presented the world with his dark vision for the future. Years would pass before he attained the power to realize that vision, but Mein Kampf’s existence denies the free world the excuse of ignorance. We dismissed him as a madman and we ignored his wretched book; the result was a tragedy of unprecedented proportions. This is yet another lesson to take from Mein Kampf: the lesson of vigilance and responsibility, of not closing our eyes to the evil around us.”—From the introduction by Abraham Foxman" https://www.amazon.com/Mein-Kampf-Adolf-Hitler-ebook/dp/B0024FA18K/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3Y2VT63YN9QJ&keywords=mein+kampf&qid=1643588976&sprefix=men+kampf%2Caps%2C547&sr=8-2
The book on this event is amazing! Gives a fresh perspective on Franz Stiglers experience in the war. He even flew the ME 262 jets later in the war.

> They are asking S&S to NOT treat “the Trump administration as a ‘normal’ chapter in American history.”
> Your argument boils down to: assuming that this is normal, this is normal.
It's pretty normal for former members of a presidential administration to write books, is it not?
There are a lot of things that are abnormal about the Trump presidency and I think it would be both interesting and valuable to hear about it from the inside, even taking into account the perspective the writings would be from (which is always important in these kinds of books).
Take Henry Kissinger, whom many perceive to be a literal war criminal, I'd still read his book and consider it a valued addition to the culture, I would just remember who was writing it.
> Your litmus test presumes that the political spectrum is symmetrical
From the point of view that one side has their story and so does the other side, they are symmetrical. Historically, as many perspectives on an event are valuable, even if we consider those people "wrong". To go full Godwin's Law, Mein Kampf is still published today.
Yeah if you read accounts from early modern people, they were not nearly as stupid and superstitious as the be’fedora’d crowd would like.
There’s a great book focussing on just one man that really shines a light on this.
The spectacle of someone being hacked several times to remove their head is why nobility were often executed by a knight or well trained swordsman, with a sword instead of an axe.
The well trained swordsman had better accuracy when striking and the word is easier to keep aligned when striking.
Interesting note — for a lot of the torturing, the executioner would strangle the person just prior to breaking them to the wheel so that the person was either near death or already dead when the torture took place.

A failed industry. The Haber-Bosch process allowed nitrogen to be fixed out of the air rather than dug up as nitrates from Bolivia/Chile.
