I was getting tired of pumping my foot 15 times for a glass of water, and I knew this thing would be less laborious way to get water, but its actually much faster than the foot pump too! I just got mine today, but I got the idea because my mom had one of these on a water cooler jug in her house. I asked her about it, and apparently she only has to recharge every 6 to 8 weeks with regular use.
Not a sponsor or anything like that, just love this thing. Here's the link if you're interested:

Water container of some sort.
There are many shapes and sizes, you can either plan your build around the big building blocks like the bed, cooler, and water jug, or you can put the water jug wherever there is leftover space.
Some have spigots that are gravity fed and others have electronic pumps which are handy if you need water while you're in the vehicle. Like this one:
Like others, I’ve started getting 5 gallon water refills because I tried a bunch of different water filter pitchers and the water was still gross for me. I go to The Water Lady (someone else mentioned it) and use this electric water bottle dispenser https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07NRYR6B6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0Q1KDBJ9SJRVCW9P23AX
Yeah, Its a wooden box with a big metal mixing bowl as a sink. There are 2 five-gallon jugs inside, a fresh water and grey water. The water pump is just a battery powered water jug pump. The whole box is fixed to the door and swings out when the door is open so i can do dishes outside. also in the box is trashbags, dish soap, paper towels, etc
I have seen some people use an electric water dispenser like the one below. They mount the dispenser near/next to the sink and drill a hole to run a longer tub to the 5 gallon jug in the space just below the sink.
I just put the jug with the attached dispenser on a table out side. Makes it easier for the kids.

Make your life easier with water. Get a 5gal jug and one of these, either battery operated or manual pump. Lots of styles.
You never want to run out of water. Those 5gal jugs are cheap and can be refilled. Having a pump removes the ordeal of getting a glass of water.
They may or may not be appropriate for your plumbing set-up. Still...kinda life changing for camping once I learned of them.
I started without one and I’m now making a small one with a rechargeable cooler faucet. It’ll have a small sink with a 5 gallon fresh and a 5 gallon grey water below. Here’s the link to the faucet:

I saw a lot of water delivery. I’d say you’d want it - but you can also get a cheap water pump for the jugs and go to someplace like frys and fill up jugs as well. I got this battery operated pump on amazon Water Bottle Pump 5 Gallon Water bottle dispenser USB Charging Automatic Drinking Water Pump Portable Electric Water Dispenser Water Bottle Switch (White)
You can modify the water supply under your sink, and under-the-sink filter (works inline with your cold water supply and goes through your faucet) or an RO unit (cold supply > external tap faucet) is your best bet. The sink filter will need to be replaced more regularly so costs add up more and filters less; the RO unit is separate for drinking water, you'll have more hard water spots on dishes and the like though. Either is a much better option than a Brita filter. If you can't modify your space as all (e.g., renting) I would get a couple of 5g water jugs and an automatic water dispenser lid for it (https://smile.amazon.com/Charging-Automatic-Drinking-Dispenser-Universal/dp/B07HFPC7HB). Another option is a standalone water dispenser, the one with the hot/cold kind.
You can usually find RO units and water dispensers on nellisauction.com btw.
On a similar note, the electric version: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HFPC7HB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
You can literally google for "countertop water dispenser" and find what you're looking for. Here's an example, in addition to dispensing water it also filters and chills it:

You can get dispensers for those large water jugs. Good companies will take the jug back to clean and refill. Either look for a used large one, or you can get little ones with a tube that goes into the jug with a spout.
Yes to your question. I think once you live in it for a while you realize things you would’ve never known until you lived life with the first things you made. You can always save up and redo the interior, and the lighter the wood the cheaper it can be also.
Here’s a cheap alternative for an electric faucet that doesn’t draw power from your battery until you have to charge it. Even when you charge it it’s still only a few watts nothing crazy. Might be the easiest fix for now.
Realistically this seems a pretty good estimate to me. You’ll probably use less than you think, especially if you have other beverages to drink.
I barely use a 2.5 gallon jug for me and my dog camping for the weekend, since I’m probably drinking coffee/beer/juice/soda/Gatorade or whatnot most of the time.
One of these is super handy with a 5 gallon bottle https://www.amazon.com/Charging-Automatic-Drinking-Dispenser-Universal/dp/B07HFPC7HB/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=97IIW36GYW2U&keywords=5-gallon+pump+usb&qid=1643778827&sprefix=5-gallon+pump+usb%2Caps%2C114&sr=8-3#

I keep several sealed 5 gallon water jugs. They’ll keep for a long time. On Amazon you can buy these electric dispensers that you put on top. Something like:
I’d would still run through your house system, so likely would have the soft water as well. I live in a hard water zone but hate water softeners. The water just feels gross to me. Below is what I’ve got. But just googling now, it looks like one could do a reverse osmosis for fairly cheap under the kitchen sink. I assume for just the kitchen faucet. Hmmm. I’ll have to keep that one in mind. I like the one I do ahve as it has hot water always at the ready. :)
Try this?

We installed a system like this. Instead of using the water filters that came with it we just connected our RO system straight into it. Gives you got or cold RO water on demand. Also you can sell the filters that came with it for around $80 on eBay to recoup some of your cost. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089LGBJKZ
That's great! so much storage room closing in the v nose. The small sink is perfect for us. We only really use it to brush our teeth and clean up before bed. Added a battery powered water jug dispenser for the faucet. Works amazing! Plus it's rechargable. https://www.amazon.com/Drinking-Charging-Automatic-Dispenser-Universal/dp/B07KW4TPNG/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=5+gal+jug+tap&qid=1629062663&sr=8-4
Agree. I think it’s more of the TDS or RO water. It’s probably extracts things you don’t want. I get the 5 gallon packets since they cost way less than the 1 gallon per volume. Get one of these and one of these.
We always drink tapwater in this house as a family but to be honest I’ve gotten a little sick of filling up the Britta and one camping trip we bought one of those big jugs of water for like three bucks talking like the 5 gallon but we never used it because it was too big to haul around fast forward a bunch of weeks later I decide to get this;

no regrets.
I use one of these. I fill it about once a day. It will save you a ton of money on bottled water and save all that extra plastic waste too.
If it helps at all, I bought a PUR water dispenser when I moved out here, and it really helps with how the water tastes. Maybe give something like this a try:
The thought of refilling a 5 gallon water jug is not something you want to do.. ? and use a rechargable pump for dispensing?
Keep a spare jug or two around, and you're good to go..
walmart, primo, glacier.. there are all sorts of "branded refill stations" for $0.35 a gallon.. and some water companies like culligan have refill stations at there company offices.
I get the 5 gal containers and a rechargeable water spout, then fill up a huge water bottle
ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATION:
I would give one of these a try, that’s really not fair for limiting your sons water intake
I saw someone use the electric one, batteries powered -- something like this -- https://www.amazon.com/Drinking-Charging-Automatic-Dispenser-Universal/dp/B07KW4TPNG/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=electric+water+pump&qid=1598000848&sr=8-4
We’ve switched to drinking bottled water. Instead of getting a water cooler (we didn’t have a good spot for one) we opted to get one of these. Works great and super cheap! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HFPC7HB/
