I use this one which has a lid: OXO No-Spill Ice Cube Tray
It’s a mold.

I don’t know how to link a photo but here’s pretty much the same thing from Amazon:

This is a better value and I have one and love it. You can get 4 cubes instead of the one, but make sure you get it before 24 hours or it's a bear to break loose.
As a fellow soup lover, I’d suggest investing in a souper cube and freezing extra portions of your soup.

I recently bought some Silicone Freezer molds, like these, and they work well.
They are already pre-measured and, once frozen, the broth cubes pop right out and can be stored in a freezer bag.
I’m so impressed you made such a large portion. I’m not sure if this would help you because it freezes four cups at a time (two pack freezes 8) but I use these (amazon link ) so that I can defrost/ heat up just a cup or two of soup at a time.
Check out Souper Cubes. And it’s only $20. You can get it on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GSSSTY9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zC3aCbEJ7VAXY). Designed to freeze soups/sauces/chili/etc in 1cup portions. Great if she makes her own stock for recipes and doesn’t want it to go to waste.
That’s so kind of you. If you do a lot of freezer meal prep, you should check out Souper Cubes — freezes food in individual portions. You can get them on Amazon.

I've been using this for a while with solid results - makes 10 cubes at a time, and leaves you with a decent amount of scrap ice per batch.
This is what I used, first try and I’d can’t be more happy with how it turned out, directions said use hot water but I used filtered water from my brita. Link posted to ice maker if you are interested

So something like this? I wonder if it's possible to make a reusable icecube with a metal outside but a liquid inside so that the heat transfer from the frozen center to the drink is sped up instead of using a plastic outside
You need these my friend.
Has anyone seen large ice cube trays for whiskey cocktails at a decent price? Best I can find is on gmarket for $35 bucks. thanks, but no.
True Cubes Clear Ice Tray I’ve been using these for sometime and they’re pretty spot on
Love these silicone Souper Cubes - pop em out like bricks, wrap in parchment or butcher paper and store in ziplocks that can be used over and over since no food ever touches them. - great for stacking and no wasted space in the freezer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GSSR5V2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I really love substituting a boiled egg or paneer for meat.
For meal prep, I make multiple portions of sauces in one go, the freeze them into individual portions in my souper cube and keep them in the freezer. I can then just microwave the sauce, add the boiled egg or paneer and we're ready to go.
I like making slow cooker curries too, again in large batches to freeze portions for later.
This is where I get a lot of my favourite recipes from: https://www.eatyourbooks.com/library/161895/anjums-indian-vegetarian-feast/3
Freeze them. Use silicone ice cube trays with LARGE places for the ice cubes. I'm meaning something similar to these which have six cubes per tray.
Crack one egg per "cube" and lightly scramble it with a toothpick or fork. Put them in the freezer for a few hours, then put them in a baggy with the date written on them. The frozen eggs need to thaw in the fridge for a day before using them. They're good for making scrambled eggs and baking. If (for example) you normally scramble a dozen eggs at a time, put a dozen frozen egg cubes in the bag so it's already the correct portion size.
The instapot has become my life saver. I got the super massive one so I could double recipes, then I portion into Souper cubes and freeze (which I then transfer to freezer ziplock bags). I have made lentil dal, beans, mung beans, coconut curry... Chicken and soups are also great. Then come dinner time, I throw either rice or quinoa in our rice cooker and microwave a frozen block and voila, dinner is served.
I also found a massive bag of roasted veggies (frozen) at Costco that I use for a stir fry, add to their rice noodles (cook in like 3 minutes).
I like the Souper cubes. I then poop them out and store multiple in a ziplock, to be defrosted individually. The 1-cuup size works best for us, but they come in a variety of sizes
The instapot has become a lifesaver. The biggest issue I had with cooking was I kept getting interrupted at a time sensitive stage and would either burn everything or pull it half cooked and try to pick back up later... It was stressful. I've been making big pots of beans and lentils and meat and freezing the extras in these Souper cubes so I can microwave a serving at a time when I just can't deal with cooking. Going to try my hand at bone broth soon.
I hear you. My little guy is 9 months old and I only just now (like literally yesterday) started cooking big pots of beans and lentils and freezing portions in Souper cubes. Because some days just get away from you and it's not possible to prep, or because sometimes Dad gets home late and pulling together a meal after he lands would throw off the bedtime routine. I also just got an instapot.
I used to do this with a lunch cooler in the freezer. Fill partway with water, leave open, freeze it and once frozen pop it out and melt off the not clear part then hit it against the sink to get glorious clear jagged icebergs. Untill the cooler cracked. Nowadays I use this apparatus that does the same thing but makes big cubes.

I was considering getting one and read the fridge makes ice slowly (about 30 hours) shaped like craft ice but it’s not clear so I opted to get a regular fridge and just bought this which makes perfectly clear ice:
True Cubes Clear Ice Cube Tray: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07422QWCP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is what I use for clear ice... 10 cubes at a time makes the effort more worthwhile.
I have done it by hand using a small cooler, but the level of effort is far higher - even though the results are objectively a little better.
WRDO is one of my favorites for an old fashioned.
A couple things that could elevate it to the next level:
Large ice cubes/spheres. I use this but there’s lots of options. Your ice will melt slower and water down your drink less.
An expressed orange peel. Brings some nice acidity to the drink and it looks good.
A Luxardo cherry. Game changer.

Pretty simple after 1-2 tries. Need to figure out the right timing for your freezer but after that it’s an easy routine.
I love having big clear cubes for my scotch/bourbon. Really elevates the experience.

There are some awesome suggestions here, so I just have one for storage. I tried using flattened Ziploc bags for storing soups/stews and it was great for storage but it made it difficult to defrost. I got these cubes last year and love them. I usually freeze it then put the cubes in bags and the cubes fit a lot easier in pots/slow cooker than the entire frozen bag and it means I can just heat up one serving at once
