This is literally the history of Venice
Thank You for this picture.
I am currently reading a history of Venice, and the author mentioned Calicut in the current chapter I'm reading!
Check out middle eats on youtube, they have stuff from all over the middle east. It's ran by an egyptian guy so there'll be more Egyptian stuff than others.
Refika's kitchen on youtube has some good stuff and I'd recommend this cookbook for Turkish food.
For anyone interested in the history of Istanbul / Constantinople, Thomas Madden wrote a fascinating book about it! I highly recommend it!
You should read about the fourth crusade. The Europeans were pretty much the bad guys. Instead of going to the Middle East, they basically ended up just destroying Constantinople for fun, and raped and pillaged despite being "good Christians".
If you have the time - and the interest - you should read Thomas Madden's Istanbul. It's an absolutely fascinating book.
> Is it your first time up there?
Yup. Pretty much covered Québec in my last few years so it was time to check out the next park nearby.
> Yeah, I have family in Turkey, and through all their political conflict and corruption, it's the same. Their response to the pandemic alone feels decades ahead of ours.
What a coincidence. This is what I'm currently reading.
> And thanks, once this pandemic starts wrapping up, that may be a good time for me to move.
Where to, you figure?
There's a book about the Hippie Trail called "Magic Bus" that is a good read if you are interested in the subject. The author follows parts of the old trail, but even he skips the most dangerous parts. Reading the book is definitely safer than trying to travel through Afghanistan.
