A trade paperback (or TPB); it's a book that collects multiple issues of a comic (or sometimes, as mentioned above, multiple different comics) into a single volume.
For instance this TPB:
https://www.amazon.com/Sandman-Vol-Preludes-Nocturnes-Anniversary/dp/1401284779/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=sandman&link_code=qs&qid=1626922985&sourceid=Mozilla-search&sr=8-2
collects the first 8 issues of The Sandman (which comprise a single story arc) into a single book.
Except that’s not what happens. They eat of the fruit of knowledge which is what kicks them out. It’s an allegory for adulthood/leaving behind innocence, knowing the difference between right/ wrong and being self aware enough to feel shame (hence covering the body.) The creation story is an explanation why humanity isn’t childlike, and living in paradise. A lot of modern translations have tamed down the sexual language in scripture but there is a shit ton of sex, and sex play going on in the Bible. The Book of Genesis by Robert Crumb is a silly read but good at shocking people into realize how much sex goes on in the Bible.
I second this. I got R. Crumb's Illustrated Book of Genesis to read with my daughter. (Highly recommend! The illustrations are perfect, and he actually chose a decent translation. Given his history, I expected something entirely different.)
Such silly stories. Such interesting discussions. We got about 2/3 of the way through Genesis before we gave up. Her comment was, "They call it the good book, but it's not a very good book."
The Omnibus Edition on the German Amazon site consits only of two parts, containing everything: https://www.amazon.de/Sandman-Omnibus-Vol-1/dp/1401241883/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1472150464&sr=8-5&keywords=sandman
and:
Edit: Wrong quote
Looks like wrong link posted try https://www.amazon.com/Sandman-Omnibus-Vol-1/dp/1401241883/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=sandman+omnibus&qid=1624033619&sprefix=sandman&sr=8-1
Edit: maybe the absolute went on sale or had a pricing error back at $80ish for me too, amazon does that some times, anyway the omnibus has a coupon right now to get it down to a similar price.
I have this one.
And this one

What different between op’s and what I have?
For this type of stuff I tend to just check Amazon. If you look at the first review for the omnibus on Amazon the person spends time comparing the omnibus and absolute. And similar deal with Absolute reviews where you will see people discussing the pros and cons with some talking about stuff like binding issues. As far as cheaper there is always digital that you can look into and then the regular trades can be pretty cheap; especially if you are willing to buy used.
I just finished a book suggested by a friend named Maus.
Really good graphic novel. Explains the Holocaust from a Polish Jew's perspective. Recently, some people wanted to ban this book out of school. When in fact, this is probably one of the best point of experience stories about the Holocaust I've ever read.
Things like this are exactly why we need books like this. Kids don't understand how damning speech like that is. They think it's like the F word and don't realize it's more like racism and murder.
Maus is a nonfiction book presented in the graphic novel style, written by American cartoonist Art Spiegelman. Serialized from 1980 to 1991, it depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor.

I also have a link for a PDF of the first book if anyone is interested.
Look for the books (NOT the volumes). They're generally cheaper but good quality and should last a good while through normal wear and tear.

(I believe there are four total)
Don't let it get you down too much. This concern of playing video games too much is probably being said by parents to their children in every country on Earth lol. Personally, I don't game a lot but there is some incredible storytelling work going on in video games and comics which is why major studios are writing television series and films based on those genres. Their comments are often based on not really even knowing much about them.
For the record, there are tons of comics that are non-fiction or based on real world events that are quiet educational and even Pulitzer Prize winning.
There's nothing wrong with expanding what you're into and checking out a documentary or reading other books (even if it's in the subjects you like!) if you want to learn some new stuff as well.
If you just want the main story, then the newer 4 "Book" editions contain the same as the first ten volumes, and should be much easier to come by
https://www.amazon.com/Sandman-Book-One/dp/1779515170
Then just buy the additional volumes (Endless Nights, Dream Hunters, Overture) separately once you've read the main story
Here’s Book One, Im Scottish, so its gonna come up on the UK version of Amazon apologies if this is unhelpful
I was wondering the same question. I was trying to figure out if this one was missing anything: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1779515170
From what I can tell, it's 4 volumes to get to issue #75, has the Netflix logo on the front, so assume it's a new reprint, but no idea if this is Deluxe, Absolute, something else.
Here's a link to book one and what it looks like, buy it from your local bookshop if you can!
You’re in luck, actually! They reprinted a new 4 volume collection of the entire series. Get The Sandman Book One, then Book Two, Book Three, and Book Four.
Here’s the link to the first one: https://www.amazon.com/Sandman-Book-One/dp/1779515170/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=1N39UACO869D3&keywords=sandman+book+one&qid=1660097710&sprefix=sandman%2520b%2Caps%2C787&sr=8-1
Sandman Volume 1: Preludes and Nocturnes
Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Sandman-Vol-Preludes-Nocturnes-Anniversary/dp/1401284779
The Sandman is divided into numbered Volumes (books), so it's easy to see what the order is. Each Volume then has Episodes inside. An episode is like a chapter.
Best way, IMO, is to pick up the trade paperbacks. They just released a 30th anniversary edition- eleven volumes, one for each of the ten story arcs, and a final volume called Endless Nights with collected short stories.
Amazon has them all fairly cheap. Volume 1 is here: https://www.amazon.com/Sandman-Vol-Preludes-Nocturnes-Anniversary/dp/1401284779
If you prefer the omnibuses, Vol 1 and 2 cover the entire main series (issues 1-37 and 38-75); Vol 3 includes Overture, Dream Hunters, and the two Death miniseries.
Asterios Polyp is probably my favorite graphic novel. It deals with romance and love, but in a very real way. It includes all the ups and downs of relationships, and uses color, along with the style of the art, to beautifully portray both the unity and division that people face when part of a couple. I found it painful at times, but so moving.
There's 10 trade paperbacks (8 issues each) which run between $15-$20 each. Or you can get the Books (20 issues each) which there are 4 of for $20-$30 each.
If you like this, you’ll love R. Crumb’s “Book of Genesis” illustrated.
The best part? Robert Crumb is one of the hippy comic artists from the 1960’s. You might assume his take on Genesis would be filled with the anti-authority type humor from his comics.
But no! He plays it straight and to the letter! Somehow, that makes it even better!
Do you want a robust illustration of why comparing any situation that exists in the United States of America today to Auschwitz is so totally and completely ridiculously absurd and utterly divorced from reality?
I got the R. Crumb illustrated version of Genesis and read it out loud with my daughter when she was ten or twelve. We made it about half way through. Her comments was, "They call it the good book. But it's not a very good book."
Don't indoctrinate her, but help her understand that different people believe all sorts of things. I read my daughter Greek mythology, Indian mythology, Bible stories, and anything else I could find.
The origin myth of the Indian god Ganesha is great. Ganesha's father Shiva had never met his son and accidentally killed him. That really pissed off Ganesha's mom (Shiva's wife), and she insisted that Shiva bring Ganesha back to life. Shiva found the nearest living being, an elephant, and grafted the elephant's head onto his son's body. Origin of the elephant headed God! My daughter's favorite was the story of how Demeter caused the seasons because she was unhappy that Hades stole her daughter to the underworld. There is an absolutely wonderful illustrated version of Genesis by cartoonist Robert Crumb. My daughters conclusion about half way through was, "They call it the good book, but it's not a very good book."
My theory is that when kids see the wide variety of stories, many of them conflicting with each other, they will figure out that they can't all be true, and that most probably none of them are. You can certainly share your own belief that none of them are.
My daughter had religious relatives who talked about Jesus and God. I could have started a big fight, but I thought it was much healthier to simply acknowledge that different people believe different things.
Interesting (and age appropriate) graphic novels/ comics can be a great gateway to reading. I recommend Persepolis
https://www.amazon.com/Persepolis-Childhood-Pantheon-Graphic-Library/dp/037571457X
>“It’s not about the books; it’s about them trying to kind of entice kids to something as if it’s forbidden fruit,” she said. “It’s using the language of pushers. It’s just incredibly inappropriate."
When you try to ban books what do you expect to happen? You entice kids merely by trying to ban something and making it “forbidden”. The sign is merely pointing this out.
I mean Maus is a bestseller on Amazon and now out of stock precisely because some parent wanted it banned. I’m sure the kids were coming to the librarians and asking about these books so they put them on display. I guess a more appropriate sign would have read “Books that some parents want banned”? Our kids are not as fragile as some parents think. Some parents appear to be quite fragile though!

If you are interested is some biblically accurate illustrated books, R.Crumb has a great book of Genesis also The Brick Bible is a Lego book of Bible stories, some you may not have heard before.
With the help of the link above I found them on amazon. They show up when you search for Sandman book one, sandman book two, etc.
