For anyone who has not read 1984 from Georges Orwell here is a link to Amazon to purchase and educate yourselves. Just imagine the same story but with a Philip K. Dick twist integrating 21st-century tracking technology on citizens.
I would exercise caution with most 'speed reading' help books, they're the get rich quick scheme of wannabe intellectuals.
That being said, it's hard to understate the productivity of a skilled reader- the person who can rapidly digest and critically understand written word at the highest level is dangerously effective. Getting to this level takes more work than most speedreading guides will admit.
I've read all sorts of books on this topic and one stands head and shoulders above the rest: How to Read A Book - Mortimer Adler. Its an old book but a classic. If you truly want to improve reading speed AND comprehension, or just want some motivation, this is the definitive place to start in my humble experience. I'm sharing because this book helped me tremendously and I think it will for you as well.
Plenty of opportunity to become well-read in 2019. Best of luck!
P.S. the original edition of this book (1940) mentions prevalence of speed reading books... Fascinating that they were popular back then, and have been around much longer than one might think.
Odd that it comes from a book, but chapter 3 (i think?) of House Of Leaves has a great set up to a scare at the end that takes the house from odd curiosity to a very real looming threat for the first time.
When Navidson and his family come back from a trip, they find this odd new walk in closet addition connecting the kid's room and the master bedroom that was not there before. He starts pouring over the blueprints of the house and taking measurements and finds that the house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside by 1/4's of an inch. No mater what he does, he cannot get his measurements to agree with each other. His partner Karen wants to just leave it be, but Navidson grows adamant to figure out what is going on, going as far as to call in a favor to borrow the most accurate tool possible from a local university.
While Navidson and his brother are picking that up, Karen and her friend take the opportunity to build a bookshelf in the master bedroom, using the two opposing walls as bookends, describing a domino effect stopping at the wall when a book is removed. Later Navidson and his brother run the machine to measure the room and to everyone's relief, there is no more 1/4 inch discrepancy. They run it one more time just for shits and giggles at which point Navidson's brother grabs a book off the shelf to prop a door open. This causes the remaining books to fall over onto the ground, revealing a full foot gap between the wall and the end of the bookshelf which is lost upon everyone but Karen. It wasn't faulty tools or bad math. The house can change, and it can change whenever the hell it wants.
I'll also take this opportunity to tell you to read House of Leaves it's really fucking good.
You are technically correct (best kind)
however many editions of the book have been published with only the number "1984" on the cover
When even the publisher gets it wrong, it's hard to find much fault in random internet comments
Just a heads up, the paperback version on the Amazon link doesn't appear to be the Hays translation. I ordered after seeing your post (thanks!) and used this link:

Ahhh, I’m really sorry to hear this. Unfortunately it’s quite common for cats and owners to have differing political views. Fortunately, there is plenty of literature which can really help you both in learning to live together harmoniously. Firstly, you need to consider whether or not there is a possibility of your car bringing firearms in to the house, should your conservative cat follow party lines. I found this book, how to speak to your cat about gun safety very useful for triggering (no pun intended) a meaningful discussion.
Best of luck!
Grab this... https://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Essentials-Kit-Boxed/dp/0786966831/ref=sr_1_1?crid=8K0HB3UFPLS&keywords=dnd+essentials&qid=1569887219&sprefix=dnd+ess%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-1 that should cover the basics of what you need to get started.
Also manage your expectations the folks on the show are professional actors so don't expect your friends to roleplay as well or do voices or for you to be able to be like Murph. Just relax and have fun!
You seem to have misunderstood the concept of the term "thoughtcrime". Here's a link to the authoritative treatise on the subject if you want to brush up.
This isn't quite what you requested, but Adler's How to Read a Book gives you a framework for something similar that can be used with any reading you do. The book features a brief set of questions designed to get you to express the main idea of what you read, how to apply the knowledge, etc. It's far more difficult than it appears, but it makes reading much more rewarding.
The method was introduced to me in my college philosophy classes and has served me well ever since.
First, a quote: "Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present." - Marcus Aurelius
Second, seriously, buy the book of wisdom about him. I promise you it's on the shelf with dog-eared pages of every successful person you'll ever meet.
Third, don't worry about the world ending. It's not, it won't.
You're living in literally (literally) the safest, most prosperous time in all of human history. You're fine. Shit is fine.
Get of social media. You're being mislead by dumb people saying dumb things about stuff they don't, nor ever will, understand.
You're just being subjected to the information overload fallacy. That's all.
You think what your read is real. It's not. Example, gun violence in America has fallen to all time historic lows, but reporting on gun violence in the last 20 years has increased 300%. So people think there's some crisis now, when it's the safest it's ever been.
You're fine. The planet is fine. The US is fine. Go enjoy life.
You're going to need to buy this book if your cat keeps trying to mess with your guns.

How to Read a Book. Actually really good and useful.
I misread that as 'fuck dinosaurs' and thought of this book.
Also, you would be surprised how infrequently dinosaur erotica comes up on reddit so that I can drop a link to that book!
>As someone already said...for now. Get a hard copy, just in case. 1984 is, frankly, scarily prescient.
Yeah, sorry someone already has a lock on the saurian sex market. Taken by the T-Rex is a classic. :)

1984 - George Orwell Signet Classics Amazon
Considering how there's dinosaur erotica on Amazon, I wouldn't be surprised if this severely misguided woman actually wrote and published a book.
I highly recommend getting the Essentials Kit. It's generally considered better than the Starter Set and will allow your whole group to play and test out the game for less than the cost of even a single rulebook.
I hope people will use this money to buy a copy of George Orwell's 1984 book.

Because the irony would be so wasted on the stupid.
Dom: Where's Letty?
Tej: She's been Taken by the T-rex!
Letty: Once you go lizard you never go...
...
Bah. I'm no good at this.
Those LoTR books are gorgeous. I’d love to get a set like that.

> When the angry T-Rex corners the huntress in a box canyon, it seems more interested in her wet womanhood than in her flesh.
I have this version. It is great. Whenever I read a passage from it I have to sit back and think for a while because it blows my mind.
OP, I think you will benefit from reading it. It uses plain English. Here it is on amazon:
