Dr. David Sinclair advocates in his book (no affiliate) for NMN as an NAD booster.
My own experience (31F) is that niacin makes me flush and feel uncomfortable, and that's a common complaint. That said, niacin much, much cheaper than NMN, which is why I think a lot of people cross their fingers that it's a good alternative.
Take note that taking large doses of sustained-release niacin over a long period of time can cause liver damage.
All that said, my non-medical advice is that if niacin is making your quality of life worse, you might want to try an alternative.
I dunno about this. I feel like having a sense of purpose is pretty fundamental to mental health otherwise why even be alive? Purpose doesn’t have be some huge thing that’s going to rock the world and change the fundamentals of society. Purpose can be “I need to tend my garden” or “I need to provide for my kid” or “I need to write that report today” or “I’d like to visit my neighbor and have a coffee and chat today” or “I need to figure a solution to xyz problem”. I recommend reading the book Ikigai by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles for some of the science and research behind this - it’s also focused on Japanese communities - specifically the Okinawans who also live extraordinarily long lives compared to the rest of the world.
I have read some of Dr. Yang's work, and in the Root of Chinese Qigong he outlines many different ways of breathing, and how that affects your Qi and nervous system. The most advanced level is embryonic breathing, which is fascinating to read about.
This book isn't as cheap as some of the others, but is very comprehensive and includes both theory and exercises, which makes it easier to practice without the supervision of a teacher.

Buy 'Eat Rich, Live Long', read it, act on it, you will turn your life around, get in great shape and feel empowered.
I'm deadly serious. I did it thinking I had no chance and in just 3 months I lost 25% of my body weight and have never looked back.
he won't listen to you, he'll listen to his peer group.
but maybe buy him this book which he can read and decide it was his idea ;-)

life update time:
finally getting bigger paychecks at my new job, looks like i'll be able to support my new family once my son is born in a few months.
going to focus on saving up money for a nice ring to propose to my girlfriend of 3+ years, she really likes rings made by this company and I think they look absolutely amazing; prob gonna get her a nice colored sapphire since she doesn't want a diamond.
today marks 24 days clean and sober. got a new AA sponsor after relapsing that will call me on my bullshit more and is more rigid about recovery. he's a cool army veteran so he's got no problem telling me i'm thinking wrong, which is what I need right now.
I also gotta get back out there with my dslr, it's been way too long since I've adventured out somewhere to take photos. ever since I began my relapse I've stopped doing things I truly enjoy which absolutely blows. I'm also trying to read more books, right now I'm reading Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life and loving it so far.
Hopefully someone has a fantastic response for you, because I sure don’t. And I myself need some guidance in this matter as I am 34 and I feel the exact same way about things. Western capitalist society feels like a trap. It’s like, choice?….what choice? I don’t choose to be a wage slave for another 33 years. No one chooses that, I am forced into it. Because dying on the streets is certainly no choice. Living this rat race of constantly not being good enough for people, for employers is certainly not my idea of a good time. I want to just live in peace and pursue what I want without the fear of starving, being homeless, dying of some preventable disease, being robbed or taken advantage of. The world is a hostile place, and I’m constantly looking for an escape route. It’s no wonder people turn to drugs or why people are depressed with anxiety. But I came from a poor family. In fact half my family is living with me now because they have no place else to go. If you’re family is financially well off, you need to take advantage of that. Life is inherently meaningless. We need to assign meaning to it ourselves. We can decide to be kind, loving, generous and useful or malevolent, selfish and destructive. I think you should look into the Japanese concept of Ikigai. I need to look into it more myself, but it’s basically something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for living. Here’s a book that I just ordered, Ikigai
some links read the book : https://www.amazon.com/Lifespan-Why-Age_and-Dont-Have/dp/1501191977/ Its a book by Prof David Sinclair at Harvard University.
From what I have read the vax is still giving protection against severe disease.
Here is what I would recommend:

Lifespan by David Sinclair had some info on this. Haven't read through it yet, can't recall most of what I read in it. amazon linkeru
"Peak, the new science of fitness performance" https://www.amazon.com/Peak-Science-Athletic-Performance-Revolutionizing/dp/1603588094
Detailed, authoritative, research-based. This is a book meant for high performing athletes from which can be cleaned a lot of really fantastic performance and nutritional information. I haven't seen a better book in this category. Also, the author has a blog which is very informative
Update on my previous post about high/low intracranial pressure.
I had an MRV to image the vascular system within my brain. This revealed an abnormality in a vein in the back of my head that my neurologist says would be either from an existing blood clot or a prior clot. She ordered more imaging, with contrast, to get a definitive look. In the meantime she advised aspirin just in case, but I've been taking baby aspirin ever since I read Lifespan by David Sinclair.
This is especially frustrating because the MRV was originally ordered with contrast. The radiology tech that day, operating the neurology practice's own MRI in a location separate from my neurologist, thought this must be a mistake, because in 20 years she's always performed MRVs without contrast, that the blood flow alone is enough to perform an MRV. She said she'd start without contrast and follow up with the doctor, and she reported to me that she did and confirmed no contrast was needed, but I think this was a lie. At the neurologist's office when were talking with the front office staff they were reporting that their in-house techs "can't" do an MRV with contrast. My guess is that the phone call from the tech to the neurologist's office was just this: the tech reported to the receptionist that she either can't or won't do an MRV with contrast, and the receptionist said okay and passed it along.
They ended up being able to schedule me with a different technician. I had an MRV with contrast this past Monday, we'll be reviewing results on Friday.
There's research that movement is instrumental in overcoming depression. Exercise on the other hand can make things worse but movement, as in, wide varieties of comforting, comfortable, and/or exploratory movement, has been shown to be a massive help.

Sorry it's Lifespan not Longevity.
Have you seen info on using some of the chemotherapy drugs to eliminate senescent cells? That's another direction toward longevity I've run across.
Oh, and how much niacin do you take?
Agree with others on going real, whole food over supplement first. Supplements have their place but typically should not be the primary source. If you want drinks go the smoothie route. You can pack so much into one drink. Good for those of us who have hard time hitting our caloric goals each day.
I know it’s a bit of a cop out to say “read this book” but I’ve learned a ton from Peak. Incredible amount of info on diet and gut health for athletes.

>NMN causes liver problems and cancer.
Source? All studies I've seen show it safe for human consumption up to 500mg per day, higher doses not tested.
>You will never be able to ear anything that will make you live significantly longer. It's against human/mamal biology
You know there are mammals that live significantly longer than humans, right? Whales live to 200+. It's not "against" biology, whatever that means. Biology is an ever changing study of life, not a set of rules that life has to abide by.
>Good thing you're looking into it though hopefully you can find better sources.
I tend to trust the doctors who spend their life researching it, I suggest you take a read: https://www.amazon.com/Lifespan-Why-Age_and-Dont-Have/dp/1501191977
lol. I thought it was a joke. It reminded me books I saw in an airport shop,
and articles like this one. I thought you were sarcastic!
I didn’t even realize there was more than one! The one I have is 100 recipes to live to 100. I love this one so much I have a physical copy and the kindle version! Enjoy :)
Excellent advice! For anyone who’s interested in stepping up their game, I’d check out Joe Friel. His book Fast After 50 is excellent - https://www.amazon.com/Fast-After-50-Race-Strong/dp/1937715264/ref=nodl_ (Mid-forties is getting close to 50 😉) in any case, he has a number of Zwift based training plans that are a step up from the basic Zwift plans.
YES! Me too! I use crystals when I meditate, I used to be an avid meditator, but I kind of lost touch with it about a year ago or so. I love it though! I'm feeling much more grounded in what I'm doing. Omg I'm so glad you messaged! Miss hearing from you, love! AHHHH! I'll send pics of the food we make and how it goes! It should be so fun! This is the cookbook if you're interested!
Here’s the Springtime Soufiko recipe! It is truly so delicious! It’s from this Blue Zone Kitchen cookbook!
S'okay March was only a few months ago. But then again in this sub, that's practically ancient history.
David has done a lot of podcasts and a lot of lectures. I haven't read his book, but his book, Lifespan: Why We Age―and Why We Don't Have To, was well received.
I've watched probably 15-30 hours of his lectures. Not being a medical PHD, I don't understand all of it. But the way he describes it, the epigenetic gets scratches on it like a damaged CD. They can see this damage right from birth and use it to tell how old someone is.
His team at Harvard medical also has a method to reverse this damage. And it appears that his methods are being reviewed broadly by the medical community.
Davids team was able to do the opposite and induce ageing in mice as proof of concept.
They've been toying with NMN or Nicotinamide mononucleotide which simulates NAD+ production, which causes regeneration cycles in the body.
David believes that the mechanisms to cure ageing are already present in the body. He and his team are trying to activate those mechanisms and as far as I can see, they've been surprisingly successful at this task.
This is the Blue Zone Cookbook that my family and I are obsessed with. It is just SO GOOD. Basically it's 5 different regions in the world that have the oldest populations, full of centenarians which is incredible. The recipes are amazing too!!
NMN is actually available as a supplement.
If you want to read more, Harvard anti-aging researcher David Sinclair has a book that talks about NMN and the underlying aging theory.
I just posted this somewhere yesterday but it might work well for ya also
This is a good choice I found a few years ago for this very purpose!
"According to the Japanese, everyone has an ikigai—a reason for living. And according to the residents of the Japanese village with the world’s longest-living people, finding it is the key to a happier and longer life."
I would recommend getting a copy of "Eat Rich, Live Long": https://www.amazon.com/Eat-Rich-Live-Long-Mastering/dp/1628602732
Paleo, Primal, Atkins, Whole30, Keto all fall under the Low-Carb, High Fat (LCHF) umbrella. And the 2 authors of this book absolutely nail it with their writing.
> Does anybody use or recommend any subscription food box type services? I’ve looked into them as I feel that would help us initially, but between the cost of those and the extra groceries we would need, it isn’t very realistic.
I really recommend learning to cook LCHF meals for yourself. You'll have better control and better success.
Anyway, good luck with Paleo. I'm sure you'll have great success with it. Just Never go back to a high-carb diet.
Give them a copy of this book: https://www.amazon.com/Eat-Rich-Live-Long-Mastering/dp/1628602732
My parents were resistant to the idea as well, but after reading the book they're both convinced that "excess carbs" are bad for them.
