Sorry about the car bud. I hope they didn't get away with stuff that was too valuable. If you plan to replace your BOB and keep it in the car maybe you'll like something like this. My buddy keeps his BOB in it, he seems to dig it.
Pacsafe 55L Backpack and Bag Protector, Silver, One Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FGVFP8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3hKhDbYCAZGHV
I've done this a bunch of times.
The answer is "yes," provided:
I went through TSA about fives times with this case and four locks similar to these.
Here's how that looks:
This has been pretty consistent, in my experience.
Hope that helps! Open to any questions.
I use Pacsafe’s to secure my bag. Basically a steel mesh that I secure to a hard point such as the car seat steel points behind a seat. Would be a lot of work to get through it: PacSafe Backpack Protector
Backpackers use them to secure their bags when traveling.
Hey there! I don't have a good system at all - pack strapped to the bike is asking for stuff to get stolen. I'm upgrading to US-30 Drypack, and I've decided to use this lockable wire mesh protector to secure it https://www.amazon.com/Pacsafe-Backpack-Protector-Silver-Size/dp/B000FGVFP8. Better than nothing. Hope that helps, and ride safe!
Smaller, like one of the ones with the wires would be best imo. It has to go through the top zipper of the door and bottom zipper of the door once they're in the middle when it's closed.
I don't know anything about this company and I'm not condoning this one, but this style.
>Is it worth to repair or buy a new one?
I mean you could just buy a different lock for it.
Sorry man, hope it turns up for you.
Recommend getting something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I5IWCPA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Obviously if they're determined it'll still be gone, but it's at least some sort of deterrent
I put the passport, backup credit cards, and other key items in a portable safe (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079Y7BZW6/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_08HJS1Q2X9VQKVGVFWGB_0) along with an AirTag. I put that in a hotel safe, or lock it to big furniture if there’s no safe.
I find locks just make you a more obvious or interesting target - it screams ''I HAVE SOMETHING VALUABLE!''
That said, these locks are very small, not too conspicuous, and non-TSA. They only require 3 digits though, so it would only take <22 minutes to crack on an average of 45 combinations a minute. (in the best case scenario, which isn't realistic, unless your code really is 999 and the thief starts at 000)
Locking carabiners or clips are much less conspicuous, versatile, and usually affordable while also greatly slowing down thieves and whatnot. And typically weigh less than locks
Check the hostel websites. They usually have details about their storage facilities. If you're still anxious about security you could try a bag protector
At a decent hotel, the in-room safe should be enough to keep your valuables safe. If you want to be extra paranoid, get yourself one of these https://www.amazon.com/PacSafe-Travelsafe-Liter-Portable-Black/dp/B079Y7BZW6?th=1 and clip it to something inside the safe.
I use this retractable cable lock to attach my helmet to my bike.
I carry a small, travel lock when I think I'm going to stop somewhere. This won't stop a motivated thief (not much will), but will slow down someone just trying to ride off. It's cheap, and quite small and light.
I doubt that an ottolock or some of the other 'small' bike locks offer meaningfully better protection. This of course comes down to what the threat model is - these larger/more expensive locks are only a benefit for detering/preventing thefts from the threats that they protect against, and the lock below does not. My estimation is that these 'in between' threats are quite rare in practice.
Space is limited under my seats so this is what I use: Pacsafe Travelsafe Gii 3 Liter Portable Safe (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079Y7BZW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QHF832MHFTMMYW4QPEPA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Have you considered something like this
These will make your life so much easier in the long run:
Luggage locks for your suitcases, travel lock for the door while you’re in the room. Keeps out nosy MILs!
If you want to go all-out, I think one of these wire mesh bag things should do the trick: https://www.amazon.com/Pacsafe-Backpack-Protector-Silver-Size/dp/B000FGVFP8
I'm not suggesting that specific model; the link is just to illustrate.
Yeah, thats one of my concerns. Been thinking about giving these a try: https://www.amazon.com/Pacsafe-Backpack-Protector-Silver-Size/dp/B000FGVFP8/ref=sr\_1\_2?crid=103198NQX5AIB&dchild=1&keywords=pacsafe&qid=1623186459&sprefix=pacsafe%2Caps%2C1051&sr=8-2
I've heard amazing things about these wire bag locks if you have a backpacking bag. You can weave the lock around something solid and no one is opening nor taking it.
so about that...I didn't use locks for ages because the case was never really out of my sight. I haven't decided on which locks to go for as the recommend wire locks leave the issue where you can open the case an inch or two while it is locked. I haven't traveled with my camera in about 8 months via flying so I haven't worried too much about buying them.
get a retractable cable lock to secure the lid while food is being cooked. Run the cable through the lid/handles
It's just a deterrent so I wasn't looking for anything crazy. Gets the job done.
Master Lock Padlock, Set Your Own Combination TSA Accepted Cable Luggage Lock, 1-3/16 in. Wide, Black, 4688DBLK https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003P0WM12/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tXGrAbTS0E1N2
You can buy a wire mesh to put your stuff in that will lock shut. This way if there is no locker, you can lock the mesh with your stuff in it to a bed or something very solid.
Day pack is a great idea - there are some really nice ones that drape over the front of your chest.
You can also get a nice lock that works with a combo - try to get one that uses a lot of digits to deter easy access. I've also seen a lock that uses a magnetic bar - VERY hard to pick.
I bought this: Master Lock 4688D TSA Accepted Cable Luggage Lock, Color May Vary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WO84Z2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1Rsmxb9GPKWSJ
People recommend cable locks sometimes since they're more flexible to lock things. Also this one is pretty light.
I use these. Easy to use. Safe. Small. And if for some reason they need to check your case while you aren't present, they can open it and relock it. With other methods your case would stay unlocked and vulnerable until you were able to lock it again.
Had my bag gone through during Motorhead in 2014(RIP Lemmy). but luckily I had my wallet and phone and stuff in front buttoned pockets so they only ended up getting a pack of smokes from me.
Since then I go empty in the pockets and everything in one pocket in the camelpak which I bought a small lock for. Has key and combo options. Basically just thread the lock through the double zippers for the pocket.
It can be a little wonky to get the timing of stuff down for what you actually want/need at a particular time and not always be fiddling with your bag but worth it at the end of the day I guess.
This wouldn't stop any of the knifing comments I've seen below but I've also never had that happen to me.
Can't speak to the goal of it being shiny and pretty. But I find these locks excellent for compact, light duty purposes. Crucially, they're keyed alike (so if you're using several, you only have to worry about one key). And if you had to snap them using appropriate tools, you could, but normal physical stress alone shouldn't damage them.
I agree that if you're looking for decorative (heart shaped, or what have you) locks, you probably want to look to etsy.
