Search "packing your fears" for some discussion pertaining to the knife. IMO, if four extra ounces of knife is the difference between a fun trip and a trip filled with sleepless nights of pants-shitting terror, go ahead and take the knife. But those are the ounces that start dropping out of your pack when you ask "do I really NEED this thing?"
As for clothes, the thing that stood out to me was your pants and shirt at 36 ounces; you could easily halve that. The pants are twill, so I'm guessing cotton, which sounds miserable. Columbia or the synthetic workout stuff you find at Target/Walmart is a decent place to start on a budget, and you can obviously spend a lot more if you want to. I have these, that whole line of running wear is pretty cheap, of reasonable quality, and available on Amazon.
Ok. So I recently actually had this complaint that I was mad that virtually all crossfit apparel was tight, short shorts for girls and long ass, loose shorts for guys, and if they _were_ tight, they were compression style which just seemed very uncomfortable.
Now y'all.
>!I am 100% on TEAM THICK THIGHS. !<
(Not to mention guys fitter than me at my box have complimented me on my legs and it has put my heart all aflutter!)
So during workouts I like to let my legs breath. But I also noticed that for things like deadlifts and cleans, those long and loose shorts would sometimes lead to the bar catching on the material and bunching up my shorts at the top of my thighs _anyways_ which seemed pointless so I looked into alternatives.
I first found this article which actually had a ton of great alternatives, which pointed out a theme: short and tight shorts FOR GUYS! God bless y'all.
I then went to ye ol' Amazon dot com and found what I ultimately ended up buying three pairs of: Jed North lifting shorts! They are great for deadlifting and doing squat cleans/snatches. (Jed North itself is a bodybuilder/physique competitor brand, but in NYC I pretty much see exclusively gay men wearing them, myself included. Make of that what you will haha.)
Per your concerns, I think you'll be fine. If you're concerned about a wardrobe malfunction I would still wear underwear.
I just got a pair of these shorts after seeing them recommended in a different sub. I went one size up than what I usually wear and 10/10.
Check out Baleaf on amazon, they meet most of your requirements I think. I have many pairs and really like them. Both the liner and no liner options are good. These cost right around 20-25 so its also a good deal.
I got these and took them to the tailor and had them hemmed to 4.5" inseam. Also you could just buy a pair of the women's shorts and not have to pay a tailor. I imagine they're not gonna fit that differently.
I recently discovered shorts with built in tights that have a phone pocket. I'm in love, my hands are free.
This is what I went with. Good for the price but not perfect. I wish they had more compression and a larger pocket for the phone. Fits an iPhone 2020 SE, but does not fit my S21 Ultra.
Yeah I love these running shorts too! Here's a link to them: BALEAF Men's 3 Inches Quick Dry Running Shorts Gym Athletic Shorts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FJPW5US/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_EXNB7SQ0E566P134B3FR
I have a few pair of the 5" Baleaf shorts with a zippered pocket on the back. They are some of my favorite shorts and very reasonably priced. They do have a liner but maybe you can check their store to see if they have an unlined version.
I’m partial to these (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036OS6KI?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). Lightweight, deep pockets, comfortable, inexpensive. 100% fits larger iPhones…. but I use an armband when I run, so not sure how comfortable it will be when you actually run. But the phone will stay!
You really don't.
If you want something similar find some inexpensive pair of short running shorts on Amazon like:
The Muay Thai shorts are just unnecessarily expensive while those running shorts are more comfortable.
Personally I'd opt for proper lined running shorts instead of generic training shorts and underwear. Here's my "go to" cheap shorts and the same thing but a little longer if that's what you prefer.
I use the baleaf 5" shorts from Amazon. Have the mesh liner and a zipper pocket in the back that I use for trash and maybe a key fob. At $20 a pair, they are by far the best running shorts I've ever run in. link
Amazon is definitely overwhelming but I've found their Baleaf shorts work fine. They're light, cheap, and have a 3" inseam. One note of caution - the "drop in pocket" is pretty much useless other than for storing a key and they don't have other pockets. I would also order a size up as they tend to run small. https://www.amazon.com/Baleaf-Quick-Dry-Lightweight-Running-Shorts/dp/B01FJPW94A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537995813&sr=8-1&keywords=baleaf+running+short
I got these ones and I love them! They have a liner, so I don't even have to wear anything underneath.
these exclusively. not sure why they say “long” because I find them pretty short and my pet peeve is gym shorts that get in the way.
Not fancy or anything but they’re pretty much my go to for the gym and around the house.
Not a belt, but have you looked into the running shorts that have a cell phone holder built in the liner?
Something like this but for women.
Edit: Just got 2 pair this last weekend and the pocket works great. Didn't even notice I had the phone on me.
For athletic shorts, I purchased these Joe North shorts from Amazon. They are great quality and have fantastic stretch. Squatting is not an issue.
I just got these a couple weeks ago. Like $15 on Amazon and they're pretty great. Took me about a week to get over the shame of debasing myself with 3" inseam shorts, but the comfort won out in the end.
I wear C9 active wear shirts from target. Have about 3 I rotate through and they're all great. Also cheap.
Pretty much any wool socks - not picky about those.
I bought these ones. Highly recommended!

I have a couple pairs of these, and they are fantastic. No idea why they are named "long" shorts, but they definitely hit above the knee, and I'm like 5'6''
I personally like the cheap champion long mesh shorts with pockets. They are just like the kind you wore in middle school except they have an extra inch and pockets. I don't remember where I got them but I found them on amazon for around $10 a pair.
