He also apparently can't afford a $60 decent dynamic microphone that essentially cancels out 90%+ of noise that isn't coming from directly in front of the mic making the air conditioner excuse a moot point.
The features seem to match up with this amazon listing of that yeti, but the dimensions are a bit off(the amazon ones could be estimates):

You can buy this for the same price on amazon here
So for Q2U and other mics that aren’t just “plug-and-use” like the yeti, what else is needed to be done in terms of hardware setup?
If I just get this:
Is this all I need to buy? Or do I need to buy more accessories and attachments. Never had experience with mics in general as you can tell lol.
(Bonus question would this mic and others like it work with BOTH windows and Mac?)
Originally released in 1965, it's been the microphones of choice for musicians and presidential speeches since it's inception.
and you can still buy one, they aren't even that expensive.
It's not inconceivable that a microphone design could be reliable enough to last that long.
Amazon has the Samson q2u that comes with headphones for $49 and then for software you can use Audacity which is free and very popular among podcasters
You've picked a great day to ask. The Samson Q2U XLR/USB mic is 40% off on Amazon right now. Great starter mic that works on either a recorder that has XLR inputs or on a computer that has a USB input.
A Blue Yeti usb mic. You can always find them on sale for like 80 bucks. Here’s the amazon link. I would be hesitant of buying used since they are machined pretty cheaply.

I use the Blue yeti microphone. It plugs in w/ usb but I bought an adapter and it works well on my phone, however I usually use it with my computer.
Here it is.
Honestly, for what you need, an sm58 is probably overkill, especially if you don't already have an audio interface.
If all you're using it for is Skype, any usb mic on Amazon will probably be fine. Find a "dynamic" or "moving coil" microphone with a "cardiod" pickup pattern.
A condenser mic rather than dynamic would probably be fine, but dynamics are more durable and less sensitive (which is good in your case)
Edit: I'm getting downvoted, but I really do feel strongly about this. The sm58 is $100, plus you'll need an interface which is $60 dollars at best. That's way too much money for what you need.
If you want a specific recommendation, check out the samson q2u. It's about $40 and it's got a usb port AND an xlr port in case you decide to upgrade. It's also got a little desk stand, which will be nice for skype. You can probably find something better if you look, but this has done well for me for several years.
Sorry for the monster post
The Blue Yeti. It seemed like the best cost to quality option (though I did gt it about 20 pounds cheaper than amazon has it), I'd rather not buy a shitty one and then have to buy a better one later if things work out. Even if things don't work out I still have a bloody good mic I can use for other things or resell.
I also have a boom arm and popfilter coming soon to make it extra nice!
Blue Snowball or Yeti. Under $80, good quality for the price, USB. You can get a nice pre-amp and Rode microphone for under $300.

What's your budget? This is a great and standard inexpensive microphone, I recently got one and am very happy with it.
I'm not too sure because it sounds like its extremely loud so idk how well most ideas besides turning it off would work.
I would say get a microphone and try that (with a filter on it maybe), but you would need to get a good mic to test that, and they can be pretty pricey. I have a Blue Yeti Mic: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Yeti-USB-Microphone-Silver/dp/B002VA464S
Its a good microphone, but still nothing professional, or top-of-the-line.
honestly, it wasn’t an expensive new mic. my snowball just broke beyond use after 4 years. I got the Shure SM57 along with an audio interface so i was able to connect it to my computer. Its not the worlds greatest for vocal recording but its pretty great and i can also use it for recording instruments so it doubles in use. also, no problem
I’d go with dynamic microphones to start with, these are the mics that the show with two hosts are using
I think the SM57 is one of the most versatile mics. Even in super expensive studio settings, it's the go-to mic for guitar amps. I wouldn't recommend it for recording a bass amp, though. It also works great on a snare. I've used it for vocals before and the tone is solid, but not the best for vocals. These guys recorded a song using only two SM57's.
Watch out for fakes, though, there's plenty. Get it from a reputable retailer.
Any sort of microphone will do to begin with I'd say as most of the cheaper mics you can purchase do a fairly good job, I use a cheaper mic for communications and it picks up almost no background noise, the only issue is frequency range isn't very big.
If you want to spend more money for a good quality mic the first suggestion would be the Blue Yeti which is about $150. I would highly suggest Blue microphones as many professionals use them and they are high quality.
I bought a CAD U1 at the suggestion of another streamer not too long ago. I was impressed with the sound quality. Better than my Blue Snowball for the environment in which I record, which is your basic kind of noisy bedroom.
That mic won’t work directly with that interface. The interface only takes 3.5mm inputs. However, that’s a USB mic which doesn’t need an interface at all. You can just plug it into your computer directly. Here’s another one I’d pick over the Samson because it uses USB-C. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATR2100x-USB-Cardioid-Microphone-ATR/dp/B07ZPBFVKK/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=2LWG88YWWB66W&keywords=audio+technica+usb+microphone&qid=1671228568&sprefix=audio+technica+usb%2Caps%2C209&sr=8-5
NO YOU! 🐐
And I've never heard of the Go Mic - I've been using a decently priced USB Audio Technica (AT2005USB) and that's been working wonders; Here's an Amazon link if you're interested, 60 bucks isn't bad and it actually has XLR compatibility for when you really wanna step it up (although I still use the USB it's so good haha)!!
I'll be on the lookout for the shorter version, super excited to see how that'll perform as compared to this one!
And if music was the hardest part then you crushed it - great choice for the content imo! 😎
And yea maybe -18 will work better, I just always find that the music helps to carry clips so if it's dulled down a bit it may mess with retention (sounds weird but it's the little things)
Keep killin it though, loved this one!!
q2u is $49.95 rn. It’s a dynamic mic that lots of people recommend. As for the space, just check out the link and see if the dimensions fit.
The Audio-Technica ATR2100x-USB is on par with the Samson Q2U, also has both USB and XLR, and is USB-C so replacement cables may be easier to find in the future.

Samson Q2U microphone. A little more expensive in Canada but lots of little things are. Still a great price. Love you guys. Enjoy.
sometimes goes on sale for $50, pretty well reviewed last i checked
the one issue is that my copy's a bit quiet, have to add quite a bit of gain through equalizerAPO (about 15db)
There’s a few usb dynamic mics … the Samson Q2U is where I’d start tho. https://www.amazon.com/Samson-Handheld-Microphone-Recording-Podcasting/dp/B001R747SG
Anyone know of a non-janky way to mount a mic onto a monitor arm?
I have this mic: https://www.amazon.ca/Handheld-Dynamic-Microphone-Recording-Podcasting/dp/B001R747SG
I ordered this monitor mount (with the arm): https://www.amazon.ca/VIVO-Free-standing-Vertical-Position-STAND-V002L/dp/B00DGU92DM?refinements=p_85%3A5690392011
The mic itself has its own desk clamp/stem but I wanna mount it on the same mount so there's less clutter
