This article got me more emotionally invested in it than most feature films to be honest. The amazon reviews for Berggoetz's book are also pretty funny, I have a sneaking suspicion he wrote half of them.
What do you think about this one?
"Last night a Dj saved my life" seems like it's more about history, while "How to DJ Right" has some practice tips as well.
I found this book to be invaluable. It's sloppily written towards the end, but I almost found that endearing. The guy has some hard truths to tell, and it certainly doesn't give you any shortcuts, but I now feel like I know what I should be doing, even if I haven't put it into action properly.
I also have the Ableton book, but I found that to be a bit too Eno, airy-fairy for me.
Hope that helps!
Personally, I recommend reading Step By Step Mixing: How to Create Great Mixes Using Only 5 Plug-ins ( https://www.amazon.com/Step-Mixing-Create-Plug-ins-Issues-ebook/dp/B01NC30DNW ). As someone who has read both books, I think the Mixology book is fine, but it simply repeats what the Step By Step... book says (almost too similar that it leans towards plagiarism). Also, with the Mixology book, you can tell it was thrown together for a quick buck because it contains multiple spelling and grammatical flaws that turn you off from finishing the book. The Mixology book is a quick read, but the Step By Step book goes more in-depth and has more useful information. Don't get caught up in the Mixology/MIDISIC marketing. The book is not worth $35.00!!! (Once again for the people in the back: THE BOOK IS NOT WORTH $35!!!). There are better alternatives out there. But if you're still tempted to buy the Mixology book, don't pay full price. Use Code "Mix15" to at least get $5 off (The code should still work as of the writing of this post).
P.S. Another great mixing book for those who are just starting out and predominantly use Logic is Logic Pro X: Mixing and Mastering Guide by Chris Wood. It's a free book if you have the Book app on iOS or macOS, and it's a terrific guide with video educational content stuffed inside. This book is great and will show you how to get the most out of a mix with the basic Logic Pro plugins.
Highly recommend Step By Step Mixing to get you off the ground. I’m several years into my engineering journey and still found it helpful. Pretty cheap (I think I got it on my Kindle for under $7USD) and would absolutely recommend it as a starting point. Also The Art of Mixing is free to watch on YouTube and has probably been utilized the most out of any other resource for decades now.
Getting into mixing is definitely frustrating when you’re trying to figure it out at first but I promise things start to click the more you do it and understand the fundamentals behind what you’re doing as opposed which plugins to use.
Good luck! You got this.
My niece just got a beginner book of Zelda music for piano from original Legend of Zelda through Twilight Princess. $10 on amazon kindle, it's slightly more advanced than typical beginner piano, but not bad. I started playing along with her (we live almost 1500 miles apart, so it's through asynchronous video, though). My music reading isn't very quick (it's been about 15 years since I've done that) so I've been transposing it to tabs and re-learning to read sheet music as I go.

All DJing consists of is playing the right song for the right crowd for the right amount of time.
Also this book was really helpful: https://www.amazon.com/How-DJ-Right-Science-Playing-ebook/dp/B003F8S75O/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=djing&qid=1601919361&sr=8-13
Great gift! I hope you get to have as much fun with it as she does!
Sorry looks like I screwed up the title

Absolutely fantastic book
This book helped me a shitload. Hopefully it can help you, it's legit
The N64 Ocarina of Time soundtrack is my personal favorite. I got this book last time I was at the New York Nintendo store and have been cranking through it on my own keyboard. It's great!

How to DJ Right is a great book that covers all of the basics in a pretty informative and easy to digest way.
I really liked this book for Legend of Zelda songs from various games. It's got a decent range of difficulty, I think about grades 1 to 3. My piano teacher even ended up buying a copy for herself and I'm not sure that she even has a TV, let alone plays video games.

The sheet music itself is clear and easy to follow but the book doesn't lie flat very easily and I ended up getting it spiral bound just so it would stay open. Most songs are about a page or two long but there are a few multi page pieces so you can practise page turning. I don't have any other books from this range but I imagine they would be similar.
That is interesting, and tied in very closely with a book I am reading right now.
That is where the idea of working on something music-related for 15 minutes every day came from. I usually put it on hold when I go on travel, but I brought some stuff to work on this time to try and build the habit.
You can never force ideas. You have to force yourself to sit and let the ideas come to you. I have wasted months on this stuff and my pals have wasted years.
Its only mind playing games man.
I'd recommend you a book to read:
https://www.amazon.com/Music-Habits-Electronic-Production-Procrastination-ebook/dp/B00ZJG398U
This will develop a mindset and i also recommend meditating. That will allow you to observe ideas instead of getting carried away in them.
Peace.
If you'd like to take this all to the next level, I'd suggest reading Music Habits - The Mental Game of Electronic Music Production. It provides essential tips on how to keep pushing through in the creative process and ensure that you're enjoying what you're doing. Also provides tons of recommendations on how to keep building up templates so you avoid a blank slate in your DAW - the most dreadful moment in production! Also, while on topic if you're ever searching for inspiration and trying to find your own creative voice, I'd highly recommend Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner. Although it's jazz piano focused, it applies to any type of creative. No more pressure! Have fun and keep the shavings coming :)
