One note- the link for black mesh in the article points to a calendar on eBay. I think I found a comparable product on Amazon but of course pricier than a craft store.
Thanks again!
I really recommend coco fiber wall and plastic canvas for them to climb around. Mine love it. You can put ropes from one end to another and they cling and go around like spider man. They love to.climb in nature.Pllieay 3 Pieces Big Size Mesh Plastic Canvas Sheets for Embroidery, Acrylic Yarn Crafting, Knit and Crochet Projects, 6 Count(19.6 X 13 inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0824TRQ7Z/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_HoexFb0PM4BV2
I had to google.. they are officially called "plastic canvas sheets" - you should be able to get one for about $1-$2 at any craft store such as JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels, Hobby Lobby (maybe even walmart) - a linky for amazon so you can see what I'm talking about https://www.amazon.com/4-Pack-Darice-Mesh-Plastic-Canvas/dp/B073WJYWTC/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=plastic+canvas+sheets&qid=1669618418&sr=8-5
I would put a patch of plastic needlepoint canvas on the backside to not only stabilize, but also give you a structure/pattern for your mend.
Shoot, I was going to recommend this Darice that I got as pretty hardy but maybe not strong enough for what you're looking for? But I'm pretty sure I couldn't rip this without scissors. I really really appreciate op for taking responsibility and reaching out for tips and help. Some owners are dumb but op sounds like they made a honest, albeit dumb, mistake.
I’m glad the smaller one is ok. I also second options suggested here- previously used it for my reptiles and it works pretty well. O personally like using plastic canvas used for crafts as the grid is big enough to let them see but also allows for free smells and easily cleaned.
plastic canvas material - avoid putting it under a heat lamp.
I misunderstood your inquiry, I think 🤦♀️ You could use plastic embroidery canvas like this and superglue it from the underside, I bet if you cut it well it would look alright.
I've used something like this:
You can find black ones as well of that's useful.
Turn it diagonal and you can get wire fences or lead lined windows
Crochet by its nature is stretchy so I feel like you’d definitely need boning or structure to keep it in place or get the shape you wanted.
I haven’t tried a corset, but these awesome folks on this sub helped me figure out some plastic additions to a huge oversized hat I was asked to make in order to keep it from being totally floppy. That stuff really helped and is here:

Superglued a cut-to-size piece of the plastic mesh stuff that’s used for yarn crafting to tank lid, replacing the solid plastic piece that slid onto the glass. The breathable mesh helps to keep the humidity level from getting too high for the floating plants, plus holes can be cut to stick pothos roots through.
Example of the plastic mesh: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SQFPC92/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_18YB4HEFPAC5PM7KZ2V1
HAHA I'VE FOUND IT!! https://www.amazon.com/4-Pack-Darice-Mesh-Plastic-Canvas/dp/B073WJYWTC/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1PREHE8QSKTSB&keywords=plastic+mesh+canvas&qid=1638765554&sprefix=plastic+mesh%2Caps%2C203&sr=8-2 This is the plastic canvas mesh thingy I was talking about. This is what I used to give it support.
i bought plastic canvas needle point sheets and cut them for my deyhydrator for small spice like oregano that falls through. should work well enough for this https://www.amazon.com/SAVITA-Needlepoint-Embroidery-Crafting-Projects/dp/B08SQFPC92/ref=sr\_1\_1?dchild=1&keywords=plastic+needlepoint+canvas&qid=1632921772&sr=8-1
Not sure if this will work with pearlweed but I have glued moss to rocks to contain it. I have also read about using needlepoint mesh to create mats

My preferred divider for floating plants is using strips of plastic canvas (like this) with suction cups at either end. They need less adjustment when the water level changes, help protect from filter splashing, and are a great algae-growing surface for shrimp to graze on! They might not fit the sort of aesthetic you want with your frameless tank, but maybe get you thinking about other solutions?
The plastic canvas at least has other uses too, like tying plants you wouldn't want to plant in substrate to little squares of it and then putting the squares under the substrate to keep them in place, or getting java moss to attach to pieces of it to make a mat.
I got it on Amazon, it’s called craft mesh I think!! 4-Pack of Darice Mesh Plastic Canvas - Clear - 10.5 x 13.5 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073WJYWTC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2AF2C6QAH2F3KB5625N9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Maybe get some of this black plastic grid stuff and make a baffle around the outlet, connect with small zip ties.
Plastic Canvas. That stuff that some people sew yarn onto. Stuff like this
Its made from plastic cross-stitch mesh; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Darice-Number-Mesh-Canvas-13-Inch/dp/B007YVJFKY/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=cross+stitch+mesh+plastic&qid=1608974289&sr=8-5
Useful for this kind of thing and cheap, i use it a lot
I'm going to make some roads/paths/landing platforms using it
I would recommend plastic mesh like this ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KHAYGJO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_fZFGFb4C7SHEH )
I see the filter floss falling apart and not holding up over time.
I used the above plastic mesh for the moss walls in both of my aquariums successfully. Still holding up great!

Tbh you could probably cut some cheap, clear plastic that fruit, salad mixes, "quick meals" from stores come in.
I modified the intake on my Spec V and covered the intake with plastic canvas. You can find it in multiple colors in any craft store. I used black so it would blend in. I bought a single sheet from Michael's for like 70 cents. You can just cut it down to whatever size you need.
I think both could work. I'd try different painting techniques on each to see if I could find something in between the two. Go darker on the top and brighten up the bottom. Painting something to look like metal can be tough. Another option could be to use this stuff. You can also get smaller sheets at places like Michaels. I've painted them before and they came out pretty good. I just painted them dark grey then did a dry brush using the metallic paint from paint pens. Came out better than I hoped. Maybe doing a dry brush over the dark one will brighten it up a bit more. I've also seen people use cheap mirrors for the backing, that looked pretty good too. Hope that helps some.
Acrylic is pretty easy to cut yourself. You just score it along the point you want it to break with a box cutter or other blade and snap it.
This stuff is the needlepoint mesh I was talking about. You can pick it up in a variety of sizes at pretty much any craft store, and it can be easily cut with scissors.
Acrylic sheets can be purchased at any hardware store, or off amazon, but the amazon prices seem to be a bit steep.
Sadly I don't. I got so caught up in rescaping and being mad at myself that I forgot to take pics. It's really nothing too glamorous. I used java moss and this mesh.
