A few years ago I bought a set of metal tapestry needles from Amazon that came in a variety of sizes and that's served me very well.

I've used something like this:
You can find black ones as well of that's useful.
Turn it diagonal and you can get wire fences or lead lined windows
Its made from plastic cross-stitch mesh; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Darice-Number-Mesh-Canvas-13-Inch/dp/B007YVJFKY/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=cross+stitch+mesh+plastic&qid=1608974289&sr=8-5
I got kits from Amazon. I'm working on the snowman with teddy now, have the snowman and friends and then two of the penguins ones. I've never done needlepoint before, but I'm liking them so far! I will say the one I'm working on now uses embroidery floss while the other ones seems to use yarn/wool. I didn't think to look for that and am hoping they don't look wildly different!
I bought a set of stretcher bars off Amazon. I've used them to stretch Cross Stitch projects. Worked well with this canvas although I need to redo it because I didn't have a staple gun at the time so I used tacks and its not as smooth as I would like it.

It was just one I had in an old sewing kit I bought on amazon I also got 2 extras at michaels that are blue DMC for ~$2
I cut DMC floss in half, I put 3 pieces through the needle and knot so it’s thicker when sewn on burlap
So I think I found it on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/Stitch-A-Photo-Art-and-Craft-Kit/dp/B001DEJK8U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494705978&sr=8-1&keywords=stitch+a+photo
Am I correct in understanding that they ship you a kit which you send back with the photo you'd like converted?
