My daughter didn’t like any swaddles except this.
The love to dream swaddles! My daughter really hated the Velcro swaddle because she wanted her arms up, and these swaddles let her do that! They're also pretty easy to put on/take off during night time feedings and changings.
Bonus awesomeness that they can convert to sleep sacks later as well!

You gotta swaddle them so they’re just in a cocoon and can’t move their arms and legs. I could never figure out how to swaddle in the blanket but we used those halo sleep sacks
https://smile.amazon.com/Sleepsack-Cotton-Swaddle-Cream-Small/dp/B003E6OBMA
Have you tried to use the Love To Dream Transition Swaddle? This allows for it to be used as a regular swaddle, unzip for one arm at a time, and then unzip for both arms.
For the scratching, I recommend grinding the nails down to keep them short and dull and then using a onesie with flaps or baby socks instead of mittens. Mittens usually fall off pretty easily, but the socks are nice when the foot part is a little roomy, but the part that goes up the leg would be a little tighter.
You might consider trying a HALO SleepSack. That one is cotton and allows you to swaddle their arms in, or one can leave the arms out and just wrap the "wings" around his belly. For a lighter cover, you can consider a muslin sleep sack like this one. To be clear, I'm not advocating for HALO; I really like the Aden and Anais muslin sleep sack, and there are several other brands available via Amazon, Jet, Google, etc. As for camping, it's the same as anywhere else (unless he's under 8lbs - if I recall that weight correctly). Dress him as you'd dress yourself. If you need an extra layer to stay warm, so does baby. I'm not sure that's what you were asking, though; did I address your concerns?
Instead of blankets, maybe try a lightweight swaddle sack like this: https://www.amazon.com/Love-Dream-Swaddle-Original-Small/dp/B0081GJ038/ref=pd_bxgy_75_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0081GJ038&pd_rd_r=1df6cb53-c144-11e8-a6af-01eb2f54162e&pd_rd_w=RHy8Y&pd_rd_wg=JuFIs&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&... My son loved these.
My baby girl is the same! You know how most babies dislike tummy time? This girl prefers it to laying on her back, good for her I guess. But same issue as you, sleeps on her tummy 100% of the time. She does know how to flip back and forth. I don’t know how this girl doesn’t wake her self up at night, she’s like a flap jack all night all long. I considered getting this fitted bed sheet that has like Velcro wings to keep baby in place since she moves sooo much: Baby Brezza Safe Sleep Swaddle Blanket for Crib Safety for Newborns and Infants – Safe, Anti-Rollover Blanket in White, by Tranquilo Reste https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07968H54T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GEFKPJKVYT949Z6X4Y33
This was about the time we moved our guy from batwing swaddle method to double swaddling the snoo sack over the love to dream swaddle. Helped him transition to arms out (it took another month because that's about the time he discovered he has HANDS and wouldn't fall asleep when they were free to move around).
But the batwing method was what we used before that because we couldn't keep his arms down with just the velcro no matter how tight it was.
Agree with others - it's unlikely to have anything to do with the sleep sack. If you find you're having blowouts/leaks, first try going up a size. If that fails, try other brands. (Some brands just don't fit baby's body shape.)
For example, we are having issues of diaper leaks (pee) because he goes overnight without a diaper change. We use Pampers Swaddlers Size 2s. So far, we have tried:
So it's a bit of trial and error! We buy the smallest pack possible to try, before buying a big box.
As far as dressing baby overnight, it looks like you want to be putting much more clothing on. At 70-71 degrees, a sleepsack with nothing else is likely too cool. I just saw this diagram recently which I thought was super helpful! At your temp you probably want at least a long-sleeved layer under the sleep sack, and possibly a onesie as well (your call.)
As far as where to buy them, I buy everything on Amazon, so I'm not sure about what local retailers would stock...
My current favourite, though, is the Love to Dream Transitional 50/50 swaddle. It's a "swaddle", but not a tight arms-by-sides swaddle. Hands are up by baby's head. (So if your kid hates swaddles, might like this one!) We have been using this to teach baby to sleep unswaddled. It's transitional, because you can unzip one arm, then the second arm. Once the arms are unzipped it's basically just a sleep sack!
First of all, hang in there! I know it’s really crazy at first! Some ideas- there’s a swaddle that’s really tight and closes with Velcro’s. Here it is-
https://www.amazon.com/SwaddleMe-Original-Swaddle-3-PK-Busy/dp/B013GYQVCW
I’ve used with both my kids and they didn’t open it.
Breast feeding- could it be that baby has a tied tongue making it hard for her to latch effectively? Does she latch on to the nipple mostly but not put the areola in her mouth? I highly recommend bring a breastfeeding consultant/ nurse for a paid home visit. She will help you two check and learn if little girl is suckling well.
Use that family support system you need ruined at home! Even an hour mid day to let mom sleep is a blessing. Ask a loved one already now to please cook some food and divide it into boxes for you in the freezer.
And remember it WILL BE BETTER and YOU CAN DO THIS!
Agree with this. Please research SIDS and follow the guidelines. Here is a great sleep sack/ swaddle. https://www.amazon.com/Halo-Sleepsack-Cotton-Swaddle-Heather/dp/B06XYJ34CZ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1DQG2ZDTTBEZ4&dchild=1&keywords=halo+sleepsack&qid=1595693222&s=baby-products&sprefix=halo+slee%2Cbaby-products%2C145&sr=1-1
I'm in love the the pea in a pod ones. They're tight and has one zipper. Also not too hot as my LO always sweats.
Edit: they're called pea pod. https://www.amazon.com/SwaddleMe-Pod-2-PK-PeaPods-NB/dp/B01416HEHA/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?keywords=baby+swaddle+zipper&qid=1551662916&s=gateway&sr=8-7
On baby #2 over here born in June. I highly recommend these: https://www.amazon.com/SwaddleMe-Original-Swaddle-3-PK-Busy/dp/B013GYQVCW
Much better than blanket swaddling in every way. A good bouncy chair is crucial IMO, just something simple that you can bounce with your foot always makes my kids fall asleep quickly when coupled with a pacifier. White noise machines are necessary as well, both for naps and overnight.
The first few months are hard, there’s no getting around that. You and your wife have to be a solid team helping each other at every moment. Change the diapers, get up with her at night to help, etc. There will be frustrating moments, but it all passes so quickly. Enjoy this time!
So quick and obvious thing, milk supply is good, baby is getting a solid latch etc right? Kiddo has a feed and is then happy for an hour or two?
Swaddling can be quite helpful, white noise too. We used this for both of ours, which definitely was useful. https://www.amazon.com/Love-Dream-Dramatically-Preferred-self-Soothing/dp/B0081GJ038/ref=sr_1_41?crid=2YFVB6R1CUGE1&keywords=Sleep%2Bsack&qid=1661754141&sprefix=sleep%2Bsack%2Caps%2C97&sr=8-41&th=1
Your baby may like the Love To Dream Swaddle UP or the Zipadee-Zip Swaddle. The Zipadee-Zip is safe for babies that can roll, too.
I had a gf who wanted this as well. I basically stayed up most of the night keeping an eye on her, then disconnected her before I went to sleep. Woke up early and reconnected the rope, before she woke up.
To have someone restrained while their asleep is never a good idea..
I'm not sure if, hmm get/build a large box/coffin that would be tight for them to fit in. But no lid, and have them sleep in it? I kinda doubt it'd be as confining, but it'd be more safe as nothing would be keeping them from getting out.
Another thing I'd tried and this is from a baby product, (we had tried something like this this but didn't work like either of us wanted)
https://www.amazon.com/Tranquilo-Swaddle-Blanket-Newborns-Infants/dp/B07968H54T?th=1
It was kinda cute, I swaddled her like a baby, although I think we needed a bigger blanket (only covered her like a diaper (not a look we liked, rofl), and needed stronger velcro. But it was essentially her but velcro'd to the bed... She could get up if needed (although she had to admit she had to try hard)
I don’t know if it was just a magic fit for our baby, but the Swaddle Up Love to Dream sleep sack made a world of difference for us. We were having a very similar situation and he hated to be swaddled, this seemed to soothe him almost immediately.
Good luck and stay well.
Mine is 9 weeks and I still swaddle. The Dr said until she shows signs of rolling from her back to her front it's ok to keep swaddling. We also have a few transition swaddles which will use once she's big enough, to help move away from needing the swaddle.
Different types of swaddles. This one was a game changer for us. Not every baby likes sleeping with their arms down.

One thing that helped with my LO when we couldn’t swaddle him anymore was the transitional swaddle by Love to Dream. It’s an arms up swaddle with removable sleeves which made a huge difference for our LO. We would get him to fall asleep in it by rocking him, then place him in his bassinet with his arms secured & then after a few minutes (to make sure he was sound asleep) we would careful unzip/remove the sleeves. This way, we could get him down in his bed, then get his arms free afterwards, so he could sleep safely. It took some practice to master, but it was the only way we could set him down in the bassinet without him waking up & screaming as soon as he was down.

Sleep sack is 100% secret tech for infants. Stuff them in and zip them up (or Velcro)
Here is that swaddle if you want to know what it looks like. Babies have their arms by their head in the womb and it’s how they soothe themselves. So this helps them sleep longer and it’s bonus they look really cute in it. Like a starfish. 😂 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0081GJ038/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_K4YJNMEFDK121RC390M2
Depends on the temp of the room they sleep in!
To make it simpler you can use an outer swaddle, whatever kind works for you because they are all very different (this one ended up being our favorite) and layering as appropriate underneath. If it's cold, put them in footie PJs. If it's a hot room, maybe just a onesie. There are lots of guides out there to help you decide how many layers to use, I suggest referencing some of those for guidance. It's important to remember that they're just tiny people so if you're chilly, they're probably chilly too. Don't overthink it!
Love To Dream Swaddle UP, Gray, Small, 8-13 lbs, Dramatically Better Sleep, Allow Baby to Sleep in Their Preferred arms up Position for self-Soothing, snug fit Calms Startle Reflex https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0081GJ038/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_2MF6SK77ZJB63HQWYGM2 We got this swaddle as a gift and our newborn started sleeping in the bassinet at night! I still haven't figured out how to get him to sleep in it during the day. I have noticed that my LO (6 weeks) never sleeps as long if he's not on one of us.
The Ana and Eve swaddle inside the Snoo sack has been a life saver. Didn’t find out about it until our first was a few months old, but using it from the start with our second.

Lol no worries. This is what I was looking at and ultimately purchased: Baby Brezza Safe Sleep Swaddle Blanket for Crib Safety for Newborns and Infants – Safe, Anti-Rollover Blanket in White, by Tranquilo Reste https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07968H54T/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_WDAPZQFCY7JZBKE3YTBW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I read that article as well. The one I found wraps around the mattress and has a spot for the baby that is like a diaper. Here is the product: Baby Brezza Safe Sleep Swaddle Blanket for Crib Safety for Newborns and Infants – Safe, Anti-Rollover Blanket in White, by Tranquilo Reste https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07968H54T/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_WDAPZQFCY7JZBKE3YTBW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
My son's pediatrician said we could try it during the day for a nap and guage how we feel about it from there. His main concern is that the swaddle part stays around his waist and doesn't ride up. As far as anti-roll devices are concerned, it seemed fairly "safe."
We used these sleep sacks with her arms out so that it was wrapped around her torso and made her feel like she was tucked in!
