I don't have a Toshiba Fire TV, I have a Fire TV Stick 4K, but does your remote have a Fire TV home button that you can press and hold?
For me, that brings up an option for Display Mirroring, though it's not compatible with any devices I happen to own.
I ended up installing AirReceiver, which supports Google Cast: https://www.amazon.com/%E9%BE%99%E6%96%B9%E5%84%BF-AirReceiver/dp/B00L5HQRGS
Look for a free app called AirReceiver in the Amazon App Store.

The main reason: it has a menu system and a remote; no phone, tablet, or computer needed. Real access to Amazon Instant. Also gets you access to lots of compatible Android apps in the Amazon store; one of the more useful apps to me is one that enables AirPlay for my Apple devices.
Also, better hardware: dual-band wifi (instead of single), dual core cpu (instead of single), twice the ram, four times the local storage. Also supports Miracast.
Best Buy and Staples are selling them in-store for $25.
AirPlay/DLNA Receiver (PRO) has proven to be VERY reliable and functional on my FireTV. I use it all the time, for flinging content (audio and video) from my laptop and smartphone. Fullscreen mirroring works, too.
Sure, it works a bit better on my AppleTV 3, but my point is, the statement that "the biggest downside with Fire TV is that there are zero apps that are even close to reliable and fully functional with AirPlay" is demonstrably incorrect.
While there are several AirPlay apps, which is what you need, they pretty much all have stability issues because they're all just hacking Apple's closed/proprietary protocol. That said, the one I use most is called AirReceiver. It's still very flakey, but at least it has been around since 2014 and the developer keeps updating it. I've found it works best if you manually launch the app first before you try mirroring to the Fire TV.
I'd been meaning to switch from the Google Play version to the Amazon Store version like I've done with Amazon Kindle, Alexa and Video.
This finally got me to do it.
And the Amazon Store version lets me play individual songs and download them.
Here's a URL that will get the Amazon Store on your device.

If it's a YouTube video, your Fire TV Stick should show up to be able to cast it from Chrome to the YouTube app on your Fire TV Stick. To generally cast the contents of tabs (or your entire desktop) using Chrome, you need to install an app. The one I use is AirReceiver: https://smile.amazon.com/%E9%BE%99%E6%96%B9%E5%84%BF-AirReceiver/dp/B00L5HQRGS/
AirReceiver is another one that has worked for me to cast in various ways, including casting the entire desktop: https://www.amazon.com/%E9%BE%99%E6%96%B9%E5%84%BF-AirReceiver/dp/B00L5HQRGS/
If it's the video here, then I think it's actually the 3rd movement of Bruckner's 9th Symphony
Showing a non-Pi solution here so bare with me.
There is an Android App called AirReceiver available for the Amazon Fire TV stick
https://www.amazon.com/%E9%BE%99%E6%96%B9%E5%84%BF-AirReceiver/dp/B00L5HQRGS/
I run it on multiple Amazon Fire TV Sticks around the house and it allows for flawless AirPlay of Video content from any iOS device to these sticks. It even autostarts and is always available in the background.
The same app also makes the stick a renote playback device for YouTube content, a uPnP target, DLNA target and other things.
We use it to browse through photo galleries, housing ads, car listings, furniture catalogs, hotel/Airbnb listings etc while allowing the family to watch along and decide/discuss on the options shown on screen.
Using it as an extended monitor for a MacBook via AirPlay also works like a charm.
Would Amazon's app store work for this situation? it pushes it's own updates and I figure it's reasonably not sketchy.
There is also AirReciever. At least the version from the Amazon Appstore has an option for Google Cast, which at my last test worked on the FireTV. Unfortunately this does not seem to work on the Capsule.
Today I come with various requests ;) All for Android
1st. Amazon Music: https://www.amazon.es/Amazon-com-Amazon-Music/dp/B004FRX0MY
2nd. Football Manager Mobile 2018: http://www.footballmanager.com/es/games/football-manager-mobile-2018
3rd. It isn't am exact app, but any app +18 with videos in HD from the famous pages of that world?
Doesn't the macbook have it's own casting option like the iphone does? if so you should get this.
https://www.amazon.com/x5434-x6C5D-AirPlay-DLNA-Receiver/dp/B00LAT7QV6
It always works for me using my iphone and it's on sale for $2 instead of the normal $5.
if you have a Firestick just buy this app for $3 directly off the amazon store it works fucking nice. I'm mirroring my iPhone 6 ios 10.2.
Ok, after doing a google search, I found this link for AirReceiver https://www.amazon.com/x9F99-x65B9-x513F-AirReceiver/dp/B00L5HQRGS Note that this is not perfect and doesn't support everything an apple tv supports. If wifi speed is not very good, mirroring doesn't go very smoothly. DRM content such as amazon video or netflix won't work, but these are already supported by fire tv natively. I use it mostly for videos from Safari, or just music playback.
It's not the Chromecast but if you have a Firestick just buy this app for $3 directly off the amazon store it works fucking nice. app link! I'm mirroring my iPhone 6 ios 9.3.3 currently and it works without an issue.
It's not free, but it's not ridiculously expensive… http://www.amazon.com/x5434-x6C5D-AirPlay-DLNA-Receiver/dp/B00LAT7QV6
I know it works. And it works well. It's only a mirror option though, so you can't use your device while watching a different app. I'm on an SE 9.3.2, bit I've mirrored an iPad Air on 8.0.4, and an iphone 6plus on 9.0.2, and an iPod touch on 9.0.2 They all work the same way and they all work well You can also try before you buy if you just download the apk and side load it. It will eventually do a license check though and stop working. Just buy it through your fire tv interface $5
I had a similar issue, tried underground but that didn't work. so I looked around and find the link for it. Just go download it https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Music-with-Prime/dp/B004FRX0MY
This should work. Cheers,
I've been using my FireTV and the same single app for almost two years now with literally zero issues. It's 100% reliable.
I can't account for whatever apps you tried, but the one I have works perfectly fine. http://www.amazon.com/x5434-x6C5D-AirPlay-DLNA-Receiver/dp/B00LAT7QV6
Had to try a few apps for this but ultimately landed on http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LAT7QV6
Paid the $4.99 but you get a solid, always-on, AppleTV-like mirroring and AirPlay setup.
Edit: Woops, re-read what you're asking and my suggestion is for the reverse of this. Not sure why you'd want your FireTV on your phone when every app is available. If you want to send your phone to the FireTV, then the above works great.
I actually want the official app that is listed on amazon store (http://www.amazon.com/Spotify-Connect/dp/B00N1XIY5Q), It says it's not compatible with Fire TV 2. I managed to get an old version but its a little buggy. Thanks for the links but they are only for play store.
Wow, haven't even heard of that one before. Too many choices! I just want a nice Plex app, and the ability to cast Spotify from my phone (Spotify Connect). And it would be nice if I could also control Spotify using the TV or streamer remote. Unfortunately it doesn't look like you can do that with the Nexus player. Apparently the Amazon Fire stick and Fire TV can do it, although apparently it sucks, according to the reviews.
If you have a Roku, can control Spotify with your Roku remote, but it doesn't support Spotify Connect so you can't cast anything from your phone, which is the most important thing for me.
So frustrating.
I've bought and tested most of of the AirPlay apps. My top pick is AirReceiver. It's been the most stable doesn't lag (when mirroring) as much as other apps. 2nd place goes to AirPlay/DLNA Receiver because I like the notifications that it provides.
AirPlay works on my FireTV thanks to this app. Loaded normally, no sideloading required, and ... it works fine.
I am using AirplayReceiver Pro since months and never an issue.
I can stream videos (from apps and safari), audio and mirror.
I am honestly impressed how smooth it is, maybe I am just lucky but I use it daily and never a small issue.
It doesn't work with the official youtube app but I found an app called protube which works better and remove the ads.
No sure about CTV GO app.
