I'm just going to leave this here.
It will change your life. Basically, you fill it with the desired amount of charcoal, and put a source of fire underneath. Personally, I use the Weber lighter cubes but you can use newspaper or even the cooking oil paper towels mentioned in your linked video. The advantage is that the coals get ready much quicker and you have more flexibility as to the location/size/shape of your charcoal pile.
Just one word of caution: make sure you have some gloves when you dump the chimney. The handle gets pretty hot despite the heat shield.
It's probably a pack of this stuff. My mom buys them and keeps them around for the grandkids. Mystical Fire Flame Colorant Vibrant Long-Lasting Pulsating Flame Color Changer for Indoor or Outdoor Use 0.882 oz Packets 6 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AFVLVI4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gyLOBbDCMC71X
There's one to the right you can kind of see. It looks like Fire Bricks, you can get them through Amazon. Top layer appears to be held together/on with some sort of steel L shaped "rail".
Lucky me, the company that produces them is where I live, might have to see if I can get some direct!

Maybe you should up your lighter game
Just used this same one for a backpacking trip. Worked great and grilling on it was super nice after enough coals accumulated. 10/10 would recommend if you need something light.
Edit: it might be cheaper on Amazon

She should have stayed at her old place. I live in an apt and ever since I came about these *fire pit stone skull things, I've been wanting them. Her swipe ups could have done well if she got them before she moved but guess she was waiting for a sponsor and got the most basic things (maybe she was given a budget/could only shop certain accounts)
*i know my link is amazon but I was too lazy to search ebay but I'm sure they have these.
You can buy fire color changing packets for like $1.50 from most stores that sell camping equipment, usually they're by the cash registers.

I have one of these, works well for the size, though its a little annoying that standard wood lengths like you’d find at a store are too long. If that’s your wood source, would recommend cutting lengths in half before leaving.
This one looks to be the correct size and has real pictures to show the size and use. Probably something very similar to this.
There are 25 pages of "camping grills" on amazon
this one is very misleading while they didn't bother with as much terrible photoshop, the dimensions in one picture really call into question the other pictures, especially the one with food on it. They are grilling cocktail sausages and mini steaks maybe.
My best sear has never been a cast iron pan, sadly; that would nice and convenient. To get the real good crust, I go with a charcoal chimney with a grate over the top.
Also if he doesn't have a Chimney starter, that is a must have for any charcoal griller and makes it so much easier.

They can probably be found a little cheaper at your local Home Depot or wherever.
If you have lots of fires and think the colors are as awesome as I do you should look at this product. ( I am in no way shape or form endorsing this stuff) I have used it and thought it was cool. https://www.amazon.com/Mystical-Fire-Colorant-Long-Lasting-Pulsating/dp/B00AFVLVI4
They are called Human Fire Pit Skull Gas Log. Can be found on Amazon
Don't know why you got down voted, this is real. You can buy the packs off Amazon that you toss in the fire to get multicolored flames
AFAIK they're perfectly legal to own here in MA.
$278 flamethrower.. Amazon really does have everything!
It’s a cylinder that you stack the charcoal in, and stuff the bottom (which is separated) with paper. This lets you create a concentrated fire to light all the charcoal in a condensed space rather than spread out over the grill. Saves time, and makes for more efficient use of charcoal.

there's tons of products that do that. toss chemical pack in fire it changes colors. most general stores like walmart have em, camping stores too, always got amazon.

Do not use lighter fluid. Instead, buy yourself a chimney starter. Here’s a link to the Weber one, but you can probably find one at your local hardware store.
Not that I don;t appreciate marketing and innovation, but I have a generic 5lb tank I bough years ago. Something like this....

That seems very pricey for a basic propane tank that sits in a milk crate, but this is the snow peak group, so make an IGT adapter for it and I'm all in :-)
Also, don't buy the Gas Gowler. That is a ripoff kit sold at MEC and REI that is nothing more than a $50 5lb Flame King propane tank with a carrying case and a $10 ACME to throwaway adapter hose.
You can build the same thing for $50 cheaper:

I agree but maybe this would help? I kinda want one so my wife might camp more. It's indoor safe so I think it'd work in a tent. Also safety features like auto shutoff on fall over. You should buy one and let me know how it goes! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002WRHE8/ref=emc_b_5_mob_t
I read about this before it was happening. I really wish I had the resources to get a bunch of those packets that make fire change color. Glue the packets into some books and throw them in. Then when the fire turned purple and green I'd scream "We've awoken the demons! Run for your soul!"
