Looks like he's using a very cheap red dot from the pic, he has no front sight mounted.
It's this profile, which is common among cheap sights you'd find on Amazon. Basically they're all pumped out of some factory in China and a bunch of companies plaster their logo on it and sell it. May not have properly zeroed but they are not reliable sights anyway, could have contributed to his failure.
I realize this isn't the most important detail, but it's something I noticed.
They sell these on amazon for literally $12. From the picture it appears someone took a dremel to it because it looks like shit.
Edit. Theyre $16
Have this on my M61 Vulcan cannon, works great so far
I don't recommend it actually. It's by far the worst red dot sight I own, which will be replaced soon, because the dot actually gets larger the further eyes are from the sight. I'd recommend something similar to this instead, which is cheap but clear and has unlimited eye relief:

I have a nearly identical LOOKING holographic sight at home, it was $18 on Amazon. Not sure if it's the same,. It looks damn close.

First off, you’ve got a great start. We’re giving you some razzing for sightmark, but don’t let it discourage you.
Sightmark is bad for 3 reasons:
Open top design requires more engineering to get done correctly than can be done on a $100 optic. It’s tough to get them to hold zero and have clear reticles with only one “lens”
Low battery life. The microdots like primary arms, holosun, and Sig Romeo 5 have a battery life around 50,000 hours. The sightmark battery lasts a little over 1000.
Many sightmark sights are just rebranded Chinese no name red dots with an aluminum cover. Ever notice how a bunch of cheap amazon red dots look essentially the same? Like this? Or this? they are all the same manufacturer, rebranded and resold
Absolutely invaluable. Especially for dark CQB areas where you need superhuman vision to acquire a target with regular iron sights.
My recommendation would definitely be the Bushnell trs-25 which is a real steel red dot. Very little parallax shift, waterproof, lifetime warranty, good battery life. They've been on amazon for just over $40 lately which is incredible. People were saying they were good value when they were selling for closer to $100 a while ago. I believe it needs an 0.83" riser for lower 1/3 cowitness or a 1" riser for absolute cowitness with iron sights.
Then a cheaper option, but more suited to CQB (due to parallax shift) is this style open red dot. The different selectable dot shapes are good for faster target acquisition at closer range. They hold zero fine in my experience, but will lose it if you bash them so again better for CQB where that matters less.
>2 sparcs ran me just over 400.
That's what 2 sparcs would cost anyone. https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Optics-SPC-AR1-Rifle-Bright/dp/B01AWB3DIM

Also the Punisher crap is gay. Especially if you're LE.

They clear the top, but the front Tritium Dot does get cut in half by the DP Pro.
I had initially Installed Ameriglos, but they didn't clear the DP Pro.
These (truglo's) are easier to install because of the Set Screw, for the Ameriglos i had to use a sight pusher and i almost stripped it while doing it, the PDP in the rear is not exact to the Glock 17 Spec, just close, the rear irons really need to be pushed in.
Those Ameriglos when to a Glock 17 and they went into that gun no problem, even taking them off the PDP was a real pain.

If you want a true holosight, get a vortex UH-1. If you are OK with a plain red dot, look at Holosun or the Sig Sauer Romeo 5
These are great, relatively cheap, red dots for nerf applications that have picatinny rails which NP does...

This one off Amazon. Its really cheap, and it works great.
Well done, that's a damn economical rifle. Do you have an optic for it yet? The ultimate cherry on top of a budget build is a $16 Amazon red dot
Some of the ultra-budget optics are surprisingly serviceable, not ideal for a tactical rifle course, but work fine for periodic range time
I highly recommend finding a junky one on amazon for cheap (something like this ). It probably won’t last long, might not keep it’s zero for long, but it will help you get the feel for it. And, to be fair, my cheap one was great. Not as durable as I wanted (the circuit board is exposed), but worked perfectly even in the rain (in fact, mine still works, so maybe it’s more durable than it looks?).
When the battery died I decided it was worth upgrading and got a Vortex for about $200. I love it. Works great, has an auto-off feature (turns itself off after 12 hrs I think) and I’ve yet to replace the battery.
On the other hand, my buddy has used my red dot (the vortex) and still prefers iron sights on his. Another buddy prefers the scope on his. Definitely preference, which is why I recommend a cheap red dot to test (MBUS as backup). For basic “range shooting” who cares if it breaks, or fails? Switch to the backups and keep shooting. If you start missing the red dot, get a more durable one. If not, you’re only out $20.
I’d rate the options I’ve tried in this order: eotech, vortex, cheap red dot, mbus, standard irons, scope (I like scopes, but not for how I use an AR: 100-300m).
Friday these show up.

I have an RMRcc on a FCD plate. These should actually clear for a co-witness. I'll be sure to post when I get it done.

The mount came a little to big, so the gunsmith had to mill it down a little bit.
https://uedata.amazon.com/Ohuhu-Green-Reflex-Sight-Reticles/dp/B00YRIHYIW
i should also note, the replacements they sent me came with a card that basically said "give us a positive review on amazon and we'll send you more freebees"
This one has worked fine for me.
There's about 10+ rebrands of this exact same site for as low as 14 bucks on Amazon as well. Works well for me. Just be sure to get a protector for it. You can replace glass protectors for as low as 2 dollars whereas the sight costs 14 to replace at the lowest.
It's got too many brightness settings for me to care for but it stays on the gun, provides a clean sight picture, and is quite adjustable. There's also 4 reticles which is fun to play with.
I run it on my CYMA M4 since I like the look of my AKS-74U plain.
If your looking for a cheap one Ohuhu sells one on amazon that is actually not that bad.
Wouldn't trust it with my life but for plinking or just whatever you can't go wrong with 17$
Mine is not this brand. There are literally dozens of different brands of the exact same thing on Amazon ranging in price from $16-30. I'm pretty sure they are all coming out of the same crap, generic Chinese factory and rebranded.
Front sight says trijicon too, it's just not tapered like this one.
If you ever get a spare twenty something dollars and want to give red dots another shot, even the Pan AV clones on Amazon are better than what you have right now, and the view angle's infinately better.
FYI, our spamfilter doesn't like URL shortenners, because people tend to use them to hide affiliate links etc. I've manually approved your comment.
The best way to post links to amazon is to post the full link, while removing everything after the product code. That removes the affiliate portion from affiliate links, which is important becasue it's easy to accidentally generate an affiliate link if you e.g. initially browse to amazon using one.
Shortened in this way, your link would look like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EWAAWGU
