I’m also fighting the little bastards. I first tried Apple cider vinegar, but that didn’t seem to work. Switched to cheap wine and that worked better. I’ve also had luck with a combination of sweet vermouth and simple syrup. The best solution was buying a Katchy insect trap from Amazon. YMMV.
Fruit fly traps are totally legit-- you can make your own by putting a little of something they'd want to get at (fruit, obviously, but i've done it with ketchup or soda or whatever random stuff i had on hand) in the bottom of a bowl, cover it with plastic wrap tightly, and poke some holes in the top with a toothpick-- the idea is that they get in and then can't find their way back out. If you'd rather go the easy route, you can buy some like this (this brand we used to use when I worked at a froyo shop that stored a LOT of fruit in the back, they seemed to work quite well. https://www.amazon.com/TERRO-Fruit-Fly-Trap-T2502/dp/B01JIRNEQW/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=fruit+fly+trap&qid=1569067742&s=gateway&sr=8-6
Good luck, friend! You're on your way!
I used this for gnats and it works well.

Similar concept but slightly different. It has a fan the sucks them down to a glue trap at the bottom.
You're better off with disposable fly trap bags like this https://www.amazon.com/RESCUE-FTD2-Disposable-Trap-2-Pack/dp/B07BTY75CV
The vinegar/dish soap trap works pretty well, but IMO I've had those fuckers breed faster than they get caught in the trap. So it catches a lot but there's still plenty more flying around. Bought one of these things in the spring and it's been a lifesaver. The light really draws them in. The amount of flies on the pad like every day is revolting.
Letting soild dry out completely between watering and then bottom watering to keep the top inches of soil dry. The larvae hatch and come from the top inch or two usually. Also, this fan/light has been a LIFE saverkatchy
These are the ones I used, I wouldn't recommend hanging them inside though they stink pretty bad. I had 100 flies in the trap within a few hours of hanging it up.

My friend’s son and her brother are allergic to mosquitos. They get blisters like this every time.
Take Benadryl, and bundle the hell up. She kept her son in long sleeves, long pants and socks, even during the summer when he was a baby.
I highly recommend the Katchy mosquito trap sold on amazon. We’re overridden with the damn things in my area and this thing has really helped us a ton.

These work great. We just got some recently. When you run out of fluid they send you, like others have mentioned, apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap is good for a replacement.
We have something like this:

I’ve dealt with fungus gnats before, I hate the assholes lol, but.. just one isn’t so bad! Take a deep breath, and maybe put some of those sticky traps up around your tub :)
12 Pack Sticky Fruit Fly Trap and... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XLM4FWL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
You’ll be ok, and so will your tub ;)
I got a rain barrel to water my calatheas and added mosquito dunks to it once a month. You can also buy mosquito bits and sprinkle them directly into the soil, or make a hot mosquito bit tea and water with them. A few weeks of this and it should kill the larvae. The adult gangs can be caught with fly paper. I lost a parlor palm to gnats back when I didn’t know what to do. I now have about 70 plants and am doing pretty well. Going to also get a carnivorous plant to feed on the strays.
These are what I use:

That's what the step up traps are for:
https://www.amazon.com/Climbup-Interceptor-Bed-Bug-Trap/dp/B0033SC0LI/
I put diatomaceous earth in the center circle, talcum powder in the outer ring. They can climb into the outer ring, but can't climb back out. Worked magic for us.
I think the Vaseline / double sided tape is a great idea! I didn't think of it when we had our problem.
Oh, yeah -- this is crucial. The bed cannot touch the wall. Absolutely. Thanks for mentioning that.
Ahhhh i knew that’s what you meant! lol, I had a feeling cuz I had that happen to me last year when fungus gnats got into our garden and got inside the house… I used sticky traps like these 12 Pack Sticky Fruit Fly Trap and Fungus Gnat Traps Killer for Indoor and Outdoor, Protect The Plant, Non-Toxic and Odorless https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XLM4FWL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8E1KNMACN3GWF3S1XD0M?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 And then I used this on infected plants to stop the root cause: SUMMIT CHEMICAL CO 117-6 30OZ Mosquito Bits (Packaging May Vary) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001AUF8G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_89DDCV9CHRHZ0HKMR92X?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 And I also removed the top two inches of soil from all plants that were too moist on top(fungus gnat breeding ground) and let them all dry out.. and after a week or two they all had left..or died 😬 good luck!
Edit: there’s also natural solutions instead of the mosquito bits, but in my case weren’t effective at that point.
Yellow sticky trap for gnat and other insects. I got some of my plants from home depot / lowe's and I think the soil was already infected by some insects that eventually filled the whole house. This was sort of non- chemical pesticide control. You can see them here
Sticky traps, thanks for asking, I forgot I needed some for indoors. Literally ordered these between you asking and this response lol
Oh my god this is why I had to give in and buy a Katchy and I love it so much. So satisfying to see those mofos stuck there in the morning.
Lol a fruit fly, or maybe a gnat, either way you already have the solution to it. Those stickies are pretty effective. Almost any plant is gonna have that problem at one point in their life. It’s very common. The eggs are in the soil, so there’s no point in buying any sprays to kill. You can just keep using those stickies, if your problem is really bad you can add additional ones or something like this to augment the control management. They go away after a few life cycles if you have enough traps to prevent breeding
I use a catchy or whatever from Amazon. It has a uv light and sticky pad it sucks them down on to. Doesn't do much for regular flies, but for some reason the little fuckers go for it. Literally the only thing I've ever found that works, and I've tried everything over the years.
This is the one I have, not that I would recommend that brand specifically but it works rather well at managing the infestation. And Lmaoo that’s so funny they do look fun to play with 😂
Getting sticky traps help too!
I really like these guys! And they come in these cute designs! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZSC4CK1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_WOncGbJJSB8YD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Best thing I could have possible bought for fruit flies and other sorts of insects.
Amazon sells these yellow sticky traps and they work like magic. You can stand and watch the fruit flies go straight for them. I now keep them on my cactus at all times after I had a big problem, particularly after changing the soil. Once there are too many on there I swap them out so I don’t have to look at dead bugs. It seems to grab house flies too. https://www.amazon.com/Stingmon-Pack-Sticky-Fruit-Fungus/dp/B07XLM4FWL
I HAD THIS PROBLEM TOOO!
my cats peed in mine and almost killed it. BUT she survived and is thriving today
-i took all the soil out and threw it away
-washed the roots with room temp water in my kitchen sink
-all new soil. put a lot of cinnamon in the top soil (cats hate the smell or sneeze alot)
-and oddly enough the sticky gnat traps from amazon keep my cats away too bc they HAAAAATE getting it stuck to them and learn the lesson quick. and its non-toxic to cats sop don't worry!!!
***also i personally find that FLF need lots of root space. i would risk it and repot if you are going to do all this anyway. maybe a pot with a wider/deeper base

Had a mice infestation (caught 8!) and if you can find these at your hardware store, made huge impact way more humane and easy to use. Victor M250S No Touch, No See Upgraded Indoor Electronic Mouse Trap - 1 Trap,Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074Y2PW1X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_u-N8Fb7993PV4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I splurged on a fly trap with a black light to attract bugs and fan that sucks them in.
There are natural solutions, of course. I just don’t want saucers of vinegar stinking up my house.
Most traditional mouse traps will cause suffering and death. If you want to look for alternatives, here's a humane mouse trap that lets you catch mice and release them somewhere else. There's also non-poisonous mouse repellent, which you can google or search for on Amazon.
I use these: Garsum Sticky Trap,Fruit Fly and Gnat Trap Yellow Sticky Bug Traps for Indoor/Outdoor Use - Insect Catcher for White Flies,Mosquitos,Fungus Gnats,Flying Insects - Disposable Glue Trappers (12 pcs) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZSC4CK1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ctcpFbJMCZ3F
They are not preventative but have significantly reduced the pests for me.
They are thick this year. On the advice of a friend, I ordered one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BTY75CV/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (I hate ordering from Amazon but couldn't find in town). They do hang outside, but my friend said they got all the flies out of her house.
