They can have catnip in them, so it might not just be enjoying the scratching.
Catit Senses 2.0 blah blah it comes with a pocket for catnip. My cat has never even looked at it lol, but it's super cheap
Emphasis on the dog comment. My dog sits in the front passenger seat. About a year ago, I was almost in a collision thanks to an incident where someone ran a red light and I had to swerve and stop suddenly to avoid them. My seatbelt kept me secure but my poor dog smacked his face on the glove compartment pretty hard. Now I secure him with a seatbelt at all times. Here is the link to the one I purchased — it’s also quite useful w/ regard to preventing the dog from jumping out the window.
That is my Bertram! Catit Senses 2.0 Self Groomer
I would recommend getting additional wall stickies, it did not stay on the wall with the ones provided.
I use a puppy seatbelt. It’s a super short leash (dog seatbelt) that clips to the dog harness (NOT collar). And then the car’s seatbelt loops through the short leash. It keeps the pup safe and off your lap.

Midwest Husky owner here! We always fill our bath with a few inches of really cold water after walks - dogs cools themselves by panting and through their paw pads, and our dog LOVES cooling off in that cold water. Also, we always use Mushers Secret Paw Wax - it protects their paws from hot pavement and has a cooling effect. While you are at it, might as well suggest bringing your own dog water bottles on walks! There are really cool water bottles for dogs on Amazon.

Cheap and easy to use, can clip into dogs harness (or collar, but harness for car rides is safer). No more puppers out the window, and can save your dog's life in a crash.
My dog is secured in the car using a seatbelt tether that hooks to her harness. It’s kept her from flying off the seat on a couple of occasions when I’ve had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting idiot drivers. seatbelt tether
Hmm. When does it scratch you? Just randomly? Maybe you're getting too rough with it or touching it too much and it's trying to tell you to give it some space?
Are you playing with it daily? I strongly recommend playing with it for at least 5-10 minutes every day. It's the equivalent to taking it for a walk and helps curb a lot of behavioral issues. This is hands down the best toy you can get - https://www.amazon.com/Cat-Dancer-101-Interactive-Toy/dp/B0006N9I68. My cats are also partial to chasing rolled up tinfoil balls that I throw for them.
For behavioral stuff I recommend checking out some books by the My Cat From Hell guy Jackson Galaxy. He's an actual expert, so his advice will probably be more helpful.
get some enzymatic pet stain remover. Its designed for the job. https://www.amazon.com/Rocco-Roxie-Supply-Co-Professional/dp/B00CKFL93K
To be honest I am not entirely sure what effects water hardness would have on skin or hair but apparently yes, Japan's water is really soft. So soft in fact that there are articles about how soft it is lol. NYC doesn't disclose the hardness of their water but some users say it's soft. But yeah, Japanese water seems superior!!
Also if you want you can test your tap water's hardness with this kit. It's meant for aquariums but I would test tap water for customers a lot. The general hardness test is the one that matters the most. Carbonate hardness is only an issue if you're a fish.
mushers secret works amazingly. Also watch how much your dog walks on rough surfaces.
You're absolutely right. Cats need to make a full stretch so that post obviously not tall enough for the cat to use for this purpose. I swear by this scratching post. I had a really long and big cat who destroyed the arms of my couch. It was years of this and I was at a loss about what to do since I had already tried the sticky stuff, sprays, and other posts. Finally I found that post and it was a night and day change in my cat's behavior. He LOVED that post and immediately stopped scratching my couch. He got the full stretch he needed and he loved the texture.

When people say that cats know what they're doing, they're right but it's not spite and it will never be spite. The human just hasn't figured out what it is the cat needs to change their behavior. Cats do things for a reason and it's up to us as caretakers to figure it out to stop the behavior.
Yes!! Came to say the same. Damn thing is $3 on Amazon and my cat goes insane for it. All the expensive toys just sit gathering dust.

get him some musher's wax. He won't have to deal with the weird bootie feeling, and he won't get frostbitten on the sidewalks.
Clean every touchable surface with an enzyme cleaner.
Seal up the house and run a professional grade ozonator, you’ll probably want to place it wherever the smell is the worst.
Strongly recommend getting these off amazon. I have 2 for my dogs. I attach them to their harnesses that they wear whenever we go for car rides. People think it will never happen to them but all it takes is one time. My wife was skeptical but I told her, with how much we love our dogs, how devastated we would be if something were to happen to them that we could prevent
Take him outside and brush him a few times a week, then give him a bath every once in awhile and brush him again

Like others have said, safety is key. If you can’t crate him, they make harnesses that clip right into the seatbelt, like this.
Also, since you’re crossing states and the border, make sure you have his most recent shot records and a health certificate from your vet.
The brushing reminded me of this product that I found works really well for my cats. They both use it consistently to scratch their face even though the catnip has long since run out:

Would highly recommend, not affiliated with the product in any way.
Get a filter and a pump. A frogs natural habitat is not a closed system, and nature regulates all the bad stuff. Usually wild animals are hardier than the domesticated critters we put in ponds, so I would suspect something is really whack with your water parameters. Additionally, unlike fish, frogs have the luxury of hopping off to better conditions if something is wrong. Which means one of two things: the cause of death is something unrelated to your pond, or something is really, really amiss with the water.
To be safe, in a similar vein to what u/Odd_Cranberry9343 said, I would do the following:
oh, he is so cute!!! I let mine sit up front in my lap when he was tiny and now he always tries to sit up front, even though he is way too big.
There is a great little seat belt for dogs that clips onto their harness and into the seat belt itself. Great for car rides and gives them enough room to stick their head out the window.
Sorry to hear about your dog, so hard to lose a pet. As for keeping my place clean, I swiffer and sweep once a week (more if needed) and use a stick vac on area rugs. For furniture and my duvet covers I use this thing to keep everything clear of cat hair. I’ve never not had a cat during my life and I’ve never found anything (including vacuums, rollers etc.) that works as well as this thing does in picking up pet hair. Even works on clothes.
Unless something is very wrong with your city water it’s already nearly ready. You just need the chlorine and/or chloramine out. Use this.
The real question is have you prepared your tank? The water has to be cycled. That is, it needs a colony of helpful bacteria that process the fish waste so they don’t all just die of ammonia poisoning.
Here is a guide to the cycle.
Get some scratching posts instead of cardboard boxes. My cats love these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000634MH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Hsk1FLX6UEcwN
They're a little expensive but so worth it. Very durable too.
50% water changes daily until levels drop. Clean your filter - a gunked up filter can be a nitrate factory. Don't overfeed your fish. Make sure you're not overstocked. Make sure you have adequate filtration for the stock you have. More plants. Floating plants tend to soak up nitrates best. Also, not sure what you fertilize, but root tabs and plant ferts in excess will increase nitrates.
If you don't have any, buy some Seachem Prime from Amazon. The normal dosage is 2ml for your 20 gallon. You can dose 5x the normal dose in emergency, so 10ml (one capful) will bind to the nitrates and detoxify them until you can remove them with a water change or the plants can absorb them.
It's sturdy, durable, and my cat loves it. Only downside, the base is biiiig. Which is why it's so sturdy, but also makes it hard to find room if you have limited space.
Edit: in case anyone actually wanted a working link ;)
They have these things on Amazon you can attach to the corners of your walls. Basically the same thing, only they can do it standing up and the hoomins won't take the brush away. My parents swear by them for their cats.
What is best for you depends on your tap water quality. If it is extremely hard, a jug or pouch may not be sufficient. You may be able to find a water quality report for your municipality online, but it's best to get a test kit to measure it yourself.
If you go with a pitcher, make sure it is spec'ed to soften water. Brita pitchers are very popular, but they don't soften.
You might also consider buying distilled or R/O water and adding minerals in yourself, either with Third Wave Water or equivalent, or else make it yourself.
