This is what my husband uses to get sap off our cars, works beautifully. MEGUIAR'S Smooth Surface Clay Kit - Safe and Easy Car Claying for Smooth as Glass Finish - G1016 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00063X7KG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3tpqDbY6KDCB6
Very pro-gun cop weighing in. As much as the police would really like everyone to handle their own shit, the reality is when they do its often a case of someone gathering up the fortitude to go confront someone over something and that person, who generally lives a life of high drama and no fucks to give, "out-crazies" them and turns the tables creating a worse scene. No one wants their shit fucked with, we all get it, quite frankly it would be really hard to not run someone over if I caught them on my property as I get home at 1 am. But consider the very real consequence of killing these idiots, it will probably make a lot of noise and this state is too small to hide bodies.
Lock your cars, lock your windows (even during the day or when you are still awake).
Double check you've locked your car before bed, its part of my night time ritual at my house.
Keep your car clean, don't leave bags or valuables in plain sight.
Maintain proper lighting.
Cameras are cheap get one more to keep at face level, overhead shots are useless.
First photo looks like they removed some of the clear coat.
As for the scratches, you can use Meguiars Ultimate Compound to remove them.
I go to swap meets here in SoCal and find these Meguiars Clay Bar Kits all the time. I usually pay $5-$8 depending on the vendor. Right now on Amazon its CHEAP for $13.58. The lowest price since 2011 on Amazon according to CCC. There are two clay bars in each package. I use a nanoskin sponge but have these laying around and buy them any chance I get. They are always brand new and never used. They normally have some sort of return labels taped to them so I am not sure where they come from. I've never asked. You can also look into buying in bulk from ali express from china.
Is this what you're referring to by clay bar?
I'll give the Windex/409 a shot first, since I have that lying around.
Thanks for the advice!
The Meguiars suggestion is spot on. I was carefully putting all the ridiculously priced car care treatments on my 3 month old tesla (because tesla paints cars about like my 6 year old paints the concrete on our sidewalk you either treat the hell out of it, or wrap them) and apparently caught a small rock or solid fragment in the microfiber drying towel. Fortunately it didn’t do a number but it was into the clear coat (that not hard to do on their cars). I had buffed it out with that same compound then treated with all the overpriced crap I had bought originally and 7 months later you can’t tell. Meguiars makes some good products.
Now that said I would be shocked if your company is burdening employees for the fleet wear and tear. I don’t drive a company owned car but have worked for companies where we have 500-700 leased vehicles on the road. People do some really dumb stuff, and the fact you were actually washing the car is a +1 compared to my employee operators. Good luck
Sorry to hear about your swirls. Generally best to avoid automatic car washes. You might try this: Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. Project Farm (on YouTube) gave this high marks.
For washing at home, I find this works well, especially if you're in a drought-affected area or if you're in direct sun: Optimum No Rinse. You just need a bucket and any type of microfiber cloth (you could probably get 100 at Costco for cheap). If your car is really filthy, a quick rinse before using Optimum can help.
Good luck!
Took me just about an hour. Used the Mother's Clay Bar kit. Comes with a detail spray that's used for lubrication.
I'm personally pretty new to detailing. Never really took care of paint on my cars until this VII. Only 3rd time doing it. So I'm learning more as I go.
Amazon has what I usually keep around. You can get the same thing at just about any parts store, albeit for a bit more. It seems a bit costly at first, but the clay is reusable and one kit like that usually lasts me a year or more between 2 cars.
The kit's still available from Amazon, and some auto stores might have it too. I prefer using soap or a diluted rinseless wash like Optimum No Rinse to keep the price down though.
I'd recommend claying yes. All you need to do a clay, the thing I started with, is $13.99 with prime ATM on Amazon. Entirely understand that you are a little tight on funds ATM but for <$50 you can get a pretty good level of protection and decontaminated paint that will last you until you can get into paint correction and such.
If you didn't want to go the clay route, then you should be able to seal still. I only used 1 pad over the entire vehicle with a foam applicator. I didn't see any problem with that, but I did clay first.
I didn't use any special towel that I recall for buffing off the sealant. But I do like eagle edgeless a lot. :D
+1 for meguiar

I used this kit and it worked fairly well. They also made clay bar towels that are easier to use but much more expensive
If you use the detailer you might want to do a quick IPA wipe before the wax
I recently switched to liquid/ceramic wax and I am never going back to traditional wax
I did a full wash, clay bar, ipa wipe and wax in a little over an hour last week
Anyone around here got a lot of experience with detailing cars? My Model 3 got covered in thousands of flecks of tree sap a few weeks ago, and while clay barring it over the weekend removed most of it (and finally made my windshield non-dangerous when facing the sun), it didn't quite remove all of the sap. There are still very slight flecks visible in the windshield when looking through it from the inside directly at a light source. It looks like this, but much less pronounced (that photo was taken before the clay bar).
I would love to remove the last of these flecks and bring my windshield back to its pristine transparency from when I got it delivered 2 months ago, but I just don't have a clue what to do. This was the very first time I've ever done clay bar, and I used this product. Maybe a different product would get rid of the last remnants of that sap?
Get yourself a wheel club, hell decorate that shit with LED lights if you have to, anything to let them know that you have locks on the steering wheel so they won't bother breaking your window.
As others have mentioned use a fine automotive polish. I've used this Carfidant Scratch and Swirl Remover on our old and new stainless steel fridge and it was amazing. Buffed out some rather deep scratches. Go nice and easy on it.
This is the one I have. They can get through it with an angle grinder or saw through your steering wheel but that’s if they have those tools with them. It’ll stop someone who’s just showing up looking for a quick hotwire.

I'd go with a steering wheel lock instead. Large visible deterrent means they won't even bother destroying your window and just move on to an easier target.
A clay bar. Like the one below. but get something cheaper as ur not cleaning a car. https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-07240-California-Gold-System/dp/B0002U2V1Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?keywords=clay+bar&qid=1663532190&sr=8-9
It removed sticker leftover from my windshield. Pretty certain itll work for ur laptop.
When our Hyundai came back from the shop, it was gritty and had overspray on it. The shop was somewhere I wasn't going back and I tried this product and it did wonders. Perhaps it will help you.

Hey great job, could you please tell me what’s the difference between meguairs 105 & 205 product ? (Also what about this Meguiar's G17220 Compound, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06W5HCZ9M/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_58MYEMG8ZT7WYNSR6JCZ_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)
I have a 2007 Lexus ES 350 it hasn’t been used for a 3 years sitting in the drive way I want to restore the paint, planning to clay bar and do a polish plus wax. Appreciate your recommendations for right products to use …
What they said on the tape, but additionally - do a little cleaning prep work before applying as well. Grab one of these things and keep it in your cleaning supplies, for $20 it'll last longer than that car will, and it's super useful to remove difficult marks from auto paint: https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-17240-Single-Unit-Speed/dp/B01MPYDYWT/
Wash the car, spritz the area with some water and then circular rub with the fake claybar. You'll feel the difference before/after as it removes a shitload of almost invisible grime, and it'll make that chrome stick as well as it possibly can once you've got a super clean (dry) surface to stick it to.
Went to go hit some balls at the range yesterday and was being a good practitioner so I brought an alignment stick.
The tee sheet had an open slot so just grabbed my shit real quick and decided to walk the first three holes before heading home.
Pull out my driver on 3 and realize I stuck the fucking alignment stick sharp end was pointing up and slide into my driver head cover and scratched the absolute fuck out of my driver head. Read a few good reviews online about this stuff, can anyone vouch for it? https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G10307-ScratchX-2-0-Scratch/dp/B0002UNON8
Girlfriend just swiped a pole in her brand new WRX and was heart broken, looked just like yours. 15 mins later, looked brand new again. I've also used it on my CX5. Just keep rubbing in circular motions even if at first it looks like it's not doing anything.
When you say steering column clamp, are you talking about something like The Club?
I use these on all of my vehicles and really believe in them. It's just enough of a deterrent to make the thief walk past your vehicle. At the end of the day that's all you really need.
In order to define the issue you should buy a detailing clay bar and spray kit. Pick the worst area and aggressively clay bar the windshield in a 10" circle.
If it's sap or paint it will clean it off, the difference should be obvious even if you do a poor job it should make a difference.
If it has no effect, you have defective glass.
Clay bars are literally bars of a specially formulate clay-like substance that when rubbed on the car's paint surface will grab all of the tiny impurities that have lodged on the surface of the paint film. This is a typical kit.
That definitely doesn’t look like it’s through the clear coat (you can check but running your finger nails over it and see if it catches).
You should be able to use rubbing compound to take that out: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B06W5HCZ9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MN4K9ZC71ZV37JAB5W9Q
Alternatively, you can use a heavier compound if the scratches are really that deep: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0002SQVF8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HR6KACRBW472R2X5GRK0
Having a random orbital machine polisher is best but for a small area like that, you can use a hand polish with a polishing pad. It will take longer by hand though.
Use a compound, such as, Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and then make sure to apply a wax over the area.
This will take it right out, I use it all the time:
Carfidant Scratch and Swirl Remover - Ultimate Car Scratch Remover - Polish & Paint Restorer - Easily Repair Paint Scratches, Scratches, Water Spots! Car Buffer Kit
Buy microfiber towels for next time, this looks like you used a paper tower to clean it - happened to me once years ago and I learned my lesson :)
Not sure, mine is dark green, scratches are not as easy to spot. But originally wanted a red one because the color looks great.
For self-care, I use this awesome synthetic polish super easy to apply and hide scratch pretty well for a mirror shine.
