Living in the moment, with no thought of future consequences of one's actions or inactions, is a fundamental characteristic of a psychopath. Add it to his constant lying, lack of empathy, and grandiose self-image. The sooner the public is educated about psychopathy, the better.
1 in 100 is a psychopath. That's over 3 million in the US. The odds are good you know one personally. Do not confuse it with a mental illness. It is a structural brain defect, and cannot be treated.
For more on psychopathy, I recommend Without Conscience by Dr. Robert Hare, who developed the clinical test for identifying psychopaths.
I know it's Canada, not the US... but London, ON is (unofficially) known as having one of the, if not the, highest density of serial killers compared to population from the 60's to the 80's. It's actually why we have the Block Parent program up here.
I you haven't read this book, it's a good one: https://www.amazon.ca/Murder-City-Canadas-Capital-1959-1984/dp/1460261828
I can back you up 100% as the stalker who I encountered has a completely reputable surface life. His public image was his greatest weapon in not only protecting himself, but in getting people to not believe me. And when someone doesn't believe a stalking victim, it's one of the worst things that can happen to them.
This was a book that helped me learn a lot about the different kinds of stalkers.

That’s the very definition of evil.
The author’s name should look familiar. His brother is someone who’s been getting evil on video and film for quite some time.
Check out the book: Why We Love Serial Killers by Scott Brown. He does an amazing job explaining the psychology behind it all from communities like us, to the media's love for them, to the collection of 'murderablia' and more. The author also features interviews with Dennis Rader and David Berkowitz to show an interesting juxtaposition between a remorseful vs remorseless killer; one paying penance and one who would kill again.

While I cannot speak for the person you’re responding to, I think they were referring to this well know fact:
Not as bad- he was a con artist who killed people for insurance money, not just some psychopath who loved murder. He didn't kill as many people as is attributed to him (or that he claimed). The "murder castle" existed but he wasn't even in Chicago during the World's Fair.

sweet it has been updated since I went to school for anthropology.
Though i do have to ask if race has one hundred percent been disproven.....how do forensic teams determine someone's "race" based on things like a skeleton, if there are truly no biological differences, only social?
One of the books I had to read was about forensic anthropology at the Body Farm in Tennessee where they study things like rates of decay, damage of body disposal etc to help crime units determine what happened, who died, etc.
The teacher who wrote the book would pull a trick on the new forensic anthropologists every year basically lay a skeleton on the table and ask them to determine their race based on the skeleton.
The skeleton was of a "black" man however the skeletal structure was "white".
Everyone would guess wrong he would explain about not making assumptions wear everyone to secrecy and move on.
Except one year someone guessed right, he assumed that the student was informed of this and he called her into his office to find out who blabbed.
She said no one blabbed but she figured out the skeleton was black because of it's kneecaps.
She used to work in physical therapy for basketball teams and knew that a "black" person's kneecaps were concave on the backside while a white person's kneecaps were flat. This makes both knee surgery and physical therapy easier for someone who is "black" versus someone who is "white"
The teacher basically recommended that become her thesis paper.
This book, Murder City, is more rigorously researched. Murder City: The Untold Story of Canada's Serial Killer Capital, 1959-1984 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/1460261828/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_85PN7NRY2YR90WG8DQKZ

>ja če hočeš to slišat, boš slišal ravno to: imam več sočutja do živali, in?!?
Pa bolj sem mislill na študijo od Yochelson and Samenow, ki sta prišla do zaključka: "Criminals who are also psychopaths often show great compassion toward animals/children and could be triggered by abuse toward those types of individuals." Opomni me za vikend, ti poskeniram stran iz knjige https://www.amazon.com/Criminal-Personality-Profile-Change/dp/1568211058
Ampak, nsiem psiholog, zato sem tudi napisal, da se ne spoznam na to :D
Some of those are a little questionable. There are strong arguments that the charges against de Rais and Bathory were contrived and embellished at the instigation of their heirs or political rivals, and their confessions obtained under torture (which was considered better than a mere confession back in the day, but makes them doubtful now).
H.H. Holmes was legitimately a conman and murderer, but the "confirmation" of 27 murders is only via confessions, some of which were proven frauds (he was actively trying to sell a confessional autobiography). The reliably proven count of his murders is more like 7. The "murder house" was mostly a fraud scheme for ripping off contractors and furniture dealers, and the stories about it were heavily embroidered by the tabloid press, police departments trying to "clear their books", and again, Holmes himself (he claimed to have murdered the builder of his crematorium, who later showed up to strenuously deny that account). I recommend Adam Selzer's revisionist account of his crimes, though Harold Schechter's more traditional account is entertaining, and not too excessively sensational.
You can read the Handbook of Crime Correlates and see blacks do commit more crime (Table 2.3.2a). No other study shows whites committing more crime nor any significant difference between blacks and whites
Black crime rates also increase once controlling for The Hispanic Effect

so apparently this is the study melfi red about compasion towards babies/animals etc. If you are interested i am sure its explained in detail
When they know they aren’t going to be significant to their target in any important way, they aren’t going to just make themselves known or make direct contact early on. Deep down a lot of stalkers, including mine, know they’ll ultimately be rejected and a stalker can’t take rejection. They aren’t actually good at relationships; this includes those who seem on the surface to have good in-depth relationships, lack the depth it seems they have just looking from the outside. They can’t really relate to anyone. They build their target up and in a way ‘consume’ them which makes them feel like they’re having a close relationship with them when none actually exists except in their heads and fantasies. Speaking specifically on the love types of stalkers.
I could go on, but if you’re really interested in this subject, and having read a lot of source material on it; I recommend The Psychology of Stalking: Clinical and Forensic Perspectives https://www.amazon.com/dp/0124905617/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RWX4JWMZP4HS173SGF7G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 - maybe cheaper on eBay.
Without Conscience: The Disturbing World of the Psychopaths Among Us
by Robert Hare
Very fascinating book, no problem to read for a layperson, and very relevant for your friend.
whether psychopaths are born or bred is a HUGE question in psychology, but many believe they are in fact born that way, although its possible to create one.
Read any book by Dr Hare, very accessbile and super interesting
I’d recommend a scholarly book before an article to explain the reasons. For what OP has explained, it seems to be a love type which has the motivations I mentioned.
The Psychology of Stalking:... https://www.amazon.com/dp/0124905617?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This book is one of the best, and thoroughly explains stalking and stalkers based on legitimate studies. This isn’t the only book I’ve read, but it is the top one I’d recommend to people being stalked.
The book is called "Why We Love Serial Killers: The Curious Appeal of the World's Most Savage Murderers" by Scott Bonn and here is the amazon link to buy it! https://www.amazon.com/Why-Love-Serial-Killers-Murderers/dp/1629144320
I strongly recommend anyone interested in H.H. Holmes read The True Story Of The White City Devil by Adam Selzer. Its nonfiction and addresses some of the myths perpetuated by The Devil In White City

The trick is finding one that does not depend on arrests.
https://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Crime-Correlates-Lee-Ellis/dp/0123736129
Shows that black people get arrested more often, but in a survey, showed that white people committed just as much crime (just less likely to be arrested or caught).
One of the bigger leaps I see from white male supremacists is that they look to the race crime stats and say "whites are better than blacks" but then fail to connect "women are better than men." But my view is we are all equally capable of being shitty, but the police do not arrest evenly.
It also depends on what kind of crime you are interested in. Like education doesn't stop you from committing crime, it just tends to stop violent crime.
Edit: this is interesting. a study of mortality.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4865101/
Table 1. Death % for those above poverty was nearly the same between black and white - and black is actually the slightly lower one. The black mortality % for below poverty is significantly higher, but so is their Neighborhood Economic Index Score (near the bottom of the table). Also interesting to note how many white went missing. Wtf is that about?
This book which was a great, well written read. Basically, most of the sources used by Larson & others were wrong/exaggerated
Our domestic history always interests me. For instance, during the late 20th century the city of London Ontario and its surrounding areas was the serial murder capital of the world. This book goes into great detail about it; it's really quite chilling.
I also enjoy the domestic side of WWI. It's crazy to me that our WWI army was entirely voluntary and was about the same relative size of the US army (5% of the population) that was conscripted. The propaganda that our military used and the pressure they put on families to send their boys to war was really quite amazing. We had military men knocking on every door; we had plays and 'movies' put on at local auditoriums; we would use guilt and peer pressure to get everyone possible to sign up. I can't even imagine that happening now. It was the war where we finally became our own country; but we did it by bullying our kids so much that they would voluntarily go to hell on earth.
The book is called "Murder City", link to Amazon below to show you. However, it can be purchased downtown in local London bookstores.
There is some "weight" to the theory, but as others have pointed out, this city does not take critical analysis of any kind very well. Ironically because this city revolts so strongly against any bad press, and always has, this has allowed some pretty dark things to exist here.
When they are brought to light, more often than not the reaction is "oh, that happened in the past, we are not like that now."
Here's the book: https://www.amazon.ca/Murder-City-Canadas-Capital-1954-1984/dp/1460261828
I feel like you are completely missing the obvious.
This rhetoric (that is an answer to the fear's of women) has helped to make it so women are less likely to put themselves in vulnerable positions and thus are less likely to be attacked.
Men and women have no control group so you don't know how each of their actions affect the results; but it's logical to assume that more fear makes you more cautious and thus less vulnerable.
I am from Southwestern Ontario and recently read Murder City which documents the murders of serial killers living in the London area from 54-84. In nearly all of those cases the victims were women or young children; do it's easy to understand why our culture has instilled this fear.
You used to be able to check yourself in and out of mental institutions to avoid questioning and prosecution.
Murder City does a good job describing this situation; at least in the London area.
I might suggest going a different way. In order to get into the mind of a serial killer, it might be helpful to first understand some of the psychology behind the fascination. This book gives an excellent overview of not only why we as people get very interested in serial murder, but also dives into a lot of other areas that would be essential in authoring a story, in my opinion. I write as well and was glad to have discovered this book. You also might want to check out Ted Bundy: Conversations with a Killer, as this book offers a unique look not only into Bundy's mind, but also into the essence of serial murder in general.
he doesn't love you to him you are merely a puppet. He is a psychopath so don't be surprised when he cheats.
A psychopath would rape their best friends widow at his funeral if he could get away with it. He's not a man he is just a big lie.
Data, yes! He wrote a book called Glimpses of the Devil: A Psychiatrist's Personal Account of Possession, Exorcism, and Redemption But I haven't read it yet so I can't tell you if it includes any experimentation.
I realise religious anecdotes are worse than worthless to a skeptic, but an encounter with some sort of "evil entity" formed a significant part of my conversion experience just this April. (I'm a former skeptical agnostic). And, coincidentally, I just shared the experience again in this thread.
