This doesn't cover your no battery requirement, but if you can find one at a reasonable price this is an awesome radio.
Requires 1AA battery and lasts forever, could probably grab a solar charger and some rechargeable batteries and that thing may outlive you.
I tried with the At Bat app, but the significant lag was maddening. I went to PC Richards and picked up a portable Sony AM/FM tuner for $20, specifically to bring to solo Citi Field outings.
Edit: This one
It's also available at Amazon for 2 dollars cheaper, but I'd rather try to give some of my money to a local company. Plus, I was buying it the day of a game, and wanted it right then and there, rather than waiting for it to ship.
You can find other options as well, if you just search for portable radio, but I figured the Sony would have a better chance of holding up and performing, over the long term, than some no-name version that I saved $5 on
That would be a small battery-powered AM/FM receiver then.
There's one of these on its way to me right now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012F0DGYE
If you need a two-way radio though, that's not the radio you want.
Oh man I remember hearing about that, that's just part of summer for me is listening on the radio sometimes. I have one of these in my garage for that very reason. I can't imagine having to listen to a TV play by play on the radio. If the MLB wants to drive subscriptions, get rid of the blackouts, give us listening options like radio and mic'd up feeds, etc and people will pay. They're doing their best to keep me an illegal streamer at this point.
Luckily I am in San Diego so it looks like I'm buying one of those sweet portable radios lol 20 bucks for the app and a single season....or 26 bucks for the rest of my life?
I use an SB7 and a pair of noise cancelling head phones. Sometimes it works wonders, sometimes all you pick up is radio stations.
I've got a couple of these Sony AM/FM radios stored away with a set of lithium (non-rechargable) batteries taped to the back (but not inside the battery compartment in case they leak (but the lithium batteries supposedly do not leak).

If you just want AM/FM reception, here's the one I have:
Sony ICFP26:
https://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICFP26-Portable-AM-Radio/dp/B012F0DGYE/
Seems pretty solidly built, has pretty good reception (better than my car stereo), rated to run around 100 hours on a set of AA batteries.
AM was never incorporated into cell phones because of the antenna requirements.
You can still get small portable radios on Amazon
battery bank or small portable radio if you can’t afford

I listen and mute the tv... There’s a delay but it’s fun to know when a big play is about to unfold right before my very eyes
Ghost boxes are used mainly as people use positive bias on false positives to get a response.
You could buy an FM / AM radio with digital tuning from an online retailer for $15 or less, all you need to do is jam one of tuning buttons down and you have your own spirit box and pretend to talk to ghosts.
Amazon sell this for $7.22
I just got a high end Bluetooth speaker called the Demerbox DB2. It's basically a super rigged indestructible Bluetooth speaker in the form of a real Pelican box. You can use it with Bluetooth or via an aux cable. The Demerbox support suggested that if I wanted to use a radio with it, I should get this small portable Sony radio. The Sony ICF-P26.
I don't know anything about radios. The one issue I think I might have is that I work inside a very large building. I think I might have trouble getting a radio signal inside there.
So I'm wondering if I need some kind of more powerful radio that can pick up radio signals better? Ideally, it would still be small enough to fit inside the Demerbox itself.

What radio are you using? I have this one and the reception is amazing I can pull stations from Upper PA/NJ here in VA with this lil thing. The batteries last forever too in this thing. It's the best cheapest gadget I've ever bought.
Maybe just pick up a cheap radio? Do they still sell those?
But I think the audio-only MLB at-bat is pretty cheap. $20?
The game is on The Score. If you're trying to strean it online it's blacked out because you have to have a subscription to do that.
Saved myself all kinds of trouble by buying a radio on Amazon back in April.

This one is pretty good, we had one for our team. Not sure what your price range is. If you charge it the night before the battery should last you a whole day, and the bars that surround it protect it a little from taking a beating.
Honestly this is the best cheapest highest rated radio. You can't go wrong with this. It's great to listen to games, have around the house, in case of storms etc.
I've got this radio last season listening to games while I'm working. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICF-S10MK2-Pocket-Radio-Silver/dp/B00020S7XK
It's slightly bigger that most pockets but a great radio.
Why so much focus on FM radio?
I don't think anything decent since the Zune and Cowon that's had an FM radio built in. Why not just buy another Cowon? They are still available NIB on eBay, and batteries are available all over the place.
Otherwise, just buy something like this and use whatever other PMP you want.
>Have you considered a small portable radio that has a stereo headphone jack? You could connect the headphone output to the amp's input.
Yes, I have, but would that be the best option? I'd rather have something that looks halfway decent on my shelf, and most portable radios probably don't.
>"Real" component tuners would work fine of course, but would probably be too big where you're trying to use it.
What do you mean by a real component tuner? Can you link me to an example?
>The only issue I see is that the SA-50 only has one input, so you'd need to add an external RCA selector so that you chose which input signal to use with the amp.
Honestly, I'm fine with just switching out the cable. I don't need a radio so often to where I would need the convenience of a switch. It's a cool idea, though, and one I might capitalize on later.
Something like this is perfect: http://www.amazon.ca/Sony-ICF-S10MK2-Pocket-Radio-Silver/dp/B00020S7XK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441130889&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+radio
I've never changed its batteries ever. A 4 pack of AAs or AAAs or whatever it uses is probably a lifetime supply of juice.
I don't have a HAM license yet. I do keep a Motorola FRS in my BOB and in my car. I also have a couple of these that I have stashed around including in my BOB. Remember to have extra batteries! (preferably lithiums)
Radios are extremely cheap. Here's one for $10 with out subscribing to anything. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ICF-S10MK2-Pocket-Radio-Silver/dp/B00020S7XK
Implementing a subsidy for end users, is costly and would include a lot of bureaucracy. It's much easier to give subsidies to the supplier. The internet needs a lot of infrastructure which costs a lot more than a radio tower.
Why do you believe in subsidizing internet access but not public radio? It's all information. This is about informing the public and not about entertainment. I could understand if you didn't want a top 40 radio station subsidized, but public radio is about public education. It's like a public library, but with information about the present.
