One of the benefits of having the BT80 engine - all the universal motorcycle 12V goodies you'd ever want to wire up 🙂
not sure what you mean by compatible, but I put this gauge on my 1980 cb750

besides getting a little washed out in the sun, it works great
you can also use a digital speedo that uses a magnet for speed sensor. Once you get the radius measurement correct you can get a very accurate speed reading. I have GPS confirmed my speed and got it all wired with turn signals and tach too.
they typically go for 60-80 but I've seen some 'brand' name ones go for much more.
this what I installed: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q6B5WQS/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_3?smid=AZWVXIVFKUAOK&psc=1
I use a GPS Speedometer Gauge - works great. Only goes up to 80mph, which is fine for me - I never ride faster than 65mph. Here's one that goes up to 125mph.
Send me the shiz and I'll take a peek at it. I installed this jank aftermarket speedo on my GS550 by myself.

I would DEFINITELY recommend getting matching high density connectors otherwise it becomes a ratsnest in the front of your bike.
I just happen to see this mentioned in a video today. It uses its own sensors so no need to tie into the existing ones.
One thing to look out for, is the odometer will need to be documented or carried over. Otherwise you may run into issue later when trying to sell it.

I'm using this one. Very responsive and easy to wire up.

This is what I’m using. It was a weekend project to wire it up, and for 35 bucks, you can’t go wrong.
Every once in a while the tach will start getting wonky and bounce around a bit, but it fixes itself if I turn it off and back on again. Even with the qc issues and bad reviews, I figure I can just keep buying replacements and swapping them out if there are issues since these things are so cheap compared to the alternatives. Now that everything’s wired up on the bike side, the gauge can be changed out in 5 min.
you could probably find a used speedo on ebay, but most of them are so old that it may not be worth the effort unless you're doing a restore. I just bought and installed this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VJMZXQQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and everything is in one compact unit. I like it even though the tach reads a little slow.
Got a Samdo Tach and got everything labeled on it and on the KLR correct (I think).
I ordered a bare 9 pin plug (male/female) and wired it today but wires are not quite matching up (def not plug n play). It looks like I need to tap into a few other harnesses possibly.
Question would it be best to just run butt connectors as direct connects then shrink wrap or electrical tape them?
When wiring my new led turn signals I only have a left and right wire coming from the tach and have a pair coming from each turn signal (8 total) how can I pair these down and maintain the correct load? I have resistors as well if need be.

Appreciate any insight you guys can offer. This is a cluster f*ck ha..
Thanks man! The speedo is an Amazon special: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J77O0OS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They are really cheap, but with a bit of wiring fun they work great and I like the look.
The electronics are original CDI, and I have it all built into the gap between the seat and the bottom of the upper frame rail. The battery sits back in the hump.
you could look at subbing in a cheap aftermarket dash, half the size, often mounts on a single bolt.
Something like maybe this: https://www.amazon.com/IZTOSS-Speedometer-Tachometer-Cylinders-Motorcycle/dp/B01J77O0OS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1537366223&sr=8-5&keywords=universal+motorcycle+speedometer
Otherwise, make thin steel shim to go under the clip ons (over the forks) with enough extra to serve as a tab to mount the old dash on.
At work and don't have pics right now, but here is a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Koso-BA010001-Style-Multifunction-Meter/dp/B0022YAH5A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1461785356&sr=8-4&keywords=koso+speedometer.
For the high beam indicator issue, I'd suggest buying a trail tech vapor, and the frame that it mounts into. The frame has all the indicators for the bike. Pretty sure the 525 doesn't have a speedo, right?
