The biggest reason is Christianity, which forcibly suppressed and destroyed many ancient religions.
A great book about it is The Darkening Age on Amazon. Here's a link: The Darkening Age
I'm gay and I've had no problem reconciling my faith with my sexual orientation from the time I was 14/15.
The most important thing in my mind is acknowledging that historical context impacts the way the Bible should be interpreted. The word "homosexuality" wasn't in the Bible until the twentieth century. Verses that have been used to condemn all same-sex sexual activity are surrounded by verses that would seem to approve of slavery, if taken at face value.
Jesus, in reference to Christian teaching, says that a good tree cannot bear bad fruit. If teaching is sound, it will not result in the harm of those impacted it. This hasn't been the case with the conservative teaching on homosexuality. The church needs to act in a way consistent with the idea that "perfect love casts out fear."
There's a lot that can (and has) been said about this topic. I'd encourage you to grapple with it yourself, but to never forget that God loves all of their children. Also, if you haven't read them, God and the Gay Christian by Matthew Vines and Torn by Justin Lee are great books on this topic.
Warmest of wishes, friend.
HAVE THEM READ THE BOOK GOD AND THE GAY CHRISTIAN. IT'S A GREAT WAY TO GET THEM TO REALIZE HOMOSEXUALITY ISN'T AS INCOMPATIBLE WITH CHRISTIANITY, PARTICULARLY THE NEW TESTAMENT/COVENANT, AS PEOPLE THINK. IF THEY'RE WILLING TO PUT IN THE TIME TO VOICE THEIR OPINION TO YOU, THEY MAY BE WILLING TO PUT IN A LITTLE MORE TIME TO REALLY CHECK OUT THE SUBJECT.

Also: "... At least, this is the medieval myth, which is constantly peddled to cultural tourists travelling though the Iberian peninsula. The question though is where this idea comes from; and what are the facts and the fictions behind? In order to get an inkling of what lies behind the construction of this myth it may be pertinent to follow the history behind the concept. ..." https://www.medieval.eu/medieval-convivencia/
I haven’t been vague.
“Right side of history” is the gaping hole that lets bias flood into the room. Everyone can be convinced god is on their side, just as everyone can be convinced they are on the right side history..
FYI, another sign or bias is when someone is intent on treating their collaborators as opponents.
Ben Shapiro saying rap isn't music
I don't have a twitter but in his twitter, you can see him defending multiple times West x Muslim rethoric and here is a link to his book on "how reason and moral purpose made the west great"
Some one should tell conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro that he used a 'commie phrase' for the title of this book.
This book is worth the read: https://www.amazon.com/God-Gay-Christian-Biblical-Relationships/dp/160142518X
From what I've seen, many who still affirm the Bible's validity and affirm a gay lifestyle denounce the clobber passages as mistranslated and not referring to the kind of gay relationships we see today (monogamous, committed, loving). Most argue Biblical passages are referring to pedophilia, rape, and hyper sexual (guys would have sex with other guys out of extreme lust outside marriage) relationships.
My own logic has always been that the homosexuality of the bible isn't really a comprehensive definition. It only defines it in terms of sex and lust. And if you define a gay person as only being capable of those two things, of course it would be sinful by a biblical concept of sexuality. Just as a heterosexual person who only built their relationships around those two things would be sinning. But now we know that same sex relationships can also involve love, commitment, and family. Basically the same things included in a marriage. So now we need to reevaluate that position given that the biblical definition is incomplete.

And you could read a short Q&A with the guy in the video on the page for his book on Amazon if you want to get an idea regarding what it is about before watching:

If you have the time you should read this book called God and the Gay Christian, by Matthew Vines.
It's full of gay-affirming arguments and most of them are based on scripture or interpretations of it. Wish I'd known about it when I was figuring everything out!
Thanks for the long reply
I don’t think she’s saying atheism makes one white supremacist. She’s saying that in the absence of religion, we create other systems of meaning and over arching narratives to explain the world. Alt-rightism and SJW-ism are both semi religious in their explanatory scope and in the sense of community and purpose they provide.
I don’t want to no true Scotsmen, as I’m sure the people you memtion would have considered themselves Christian. But they didn’t follow the teachings of Christianity or Christ.
“Adolf Hitler was a pantheist who believed nature was God. In Hitler's Religion, Weikart explains how the laws of nature became Hitler's only moral guidehow he became convinced he would serve God by annihilating supposedly "inferior" human beings and promoting the welfare and reproduction of the allegedly superior Aryans in accordance with racist forms of Darwinism prevalent at the time.”
Thousands of Christians tortured and murdered under the Islamic government of Spain beg to differ. (And you couldn't do pogroms in cities because cities had bishops and bishops sheltered Jews, but please, continue to blame Christianity for it.)
You should definitely check out The Darkening Age: The Christian Destruction of the Classical World. It will help fill in some of the gaps about just how Christianity became "the most popular/widespread/successful" (namely, because of its violent intolerance for anything perceived to be in competition with or critical of Christianity).
> It is extremely low IQ to miss the part where Germany had strong Christian ties before the rise of Nazism and Hitler had to work within that framework.
And yet that inscription wasn't on the belt buckles of the soldiers of Weimar Germany. Adding it back was not necessary, yet Hitler felt the need to do it.
> There's also the fact that, per Albert Speer, Hitler wished Germany was Islamic, rather than Christian.
Hitler expressed sympathy for many different religions during the course of his life, but was baptised and confirmed Roman Catholic and expressed favorable views towards Lutheranism, but the truth is rather more complex. He rejected atheism very consistently, however.
If you're actually interested, you should read this book. It presents a very interesting picture.
But somehow, I doubt you will.
Christian terrorism. They did things like this in the first century AD against roman public places of worship. That is why the roman government "persecuted" them i.e. they were being held accountable for criminal behavior. If you want to learn more about early christian extremism read the darkening age by Catherine Nixey.
>Is there a source for that, cause that explains alot and makes sense that it happened
Yes. Bella Dodd was a lawyer for the Communist party in Chicago. She later converted to Catholicism, and said that she herself helped place over 1000 Marxists into Catholic Seminaries. Many of those were homosexuals and some of those rose to Bishops. They went on to persecuted faithful masculine priests and fostered gay priests.
Not sure if you know it, but about 90% of the abusers were homosexuals, not pedophiles. They were men preying on young men, which is pederasty, not pedophilia.
Here's one article about Bella Dodd :

There are several books about it. Russian leaders were pretty open about their plans to infiltrate US institutions, including the Catholic Church :

This was taken from p. 44 of Ibn Warraq's book, Why I Am Not a Muslim.
This is an excerpt from p. 43 (lower half) of Ibn Warraq's book, Why I Am Not a Muslim (2003)
People generally accept the influence of Judaism and Christianity on Islam (ex: most, if not all, of the stories about the prophets in Islam are from Judaism & Christianity: Adam, Nuh/Noah, Yusuf/Joseph, Ibrahim/Abraham, Musa/Moses, Isa/Jesus, etc.), however, most people generally don't know that Zoroastrianism influenced Judaism, which in turn, influenced both Christianity & Islam.

Of course in Islam, Allah's power is not 'hampered' by Shaytaan-- the stories aren't exactly the same but they are closely related; there are variations.
They did not co exist peacefully. I would recommend you read the book “Myth Of Andalusian Paradise” by Dario Fernandez Morera as he provides both Muslim and nonMuslim historians sources on this period.

As for the crusades, those were defensive wars against Muslim invasion of Europe.
>I still standby my statement that Christianity is something that included Greco-Roman culture, rather than removing it...
You cannot be serious. Christians destroyed so much of Greco-Roman culture that only one percent of literature survived: https://www.amazon.com/Darkening-Age-Christian-Destruction-Classical/dp/0544800885
Christians are murderers and destroyers. But what you did to Hypatia and the Great Library of Alexandria will come back to you. You cannot escape karma.
You should check out Hitler’s Religion: The Twisted Beliefs that Drove the Third Reich. This is a well researched book by a professional historian that explores Hitler’s personal religious beliefs in-depth and basically concludes Hitler believed in some type of natural god, but it wasn’t the Christian god and he was far from a Christian despite any claims he himself may have made. Also, anyone can throw a Christmas party without believing in the religious part.
If you don’t feel like reading the whole book This review from Reading Religion gives an excellent overview on the work and cites the text directly.
It's a really tricky subject, this, and one that can have polarising answers on either side of the debate. I think you've handled it well, and I agree with what you've said. If you haven't already read it, I'd recommend 'God and the Gay Christian' by Matthew Vines, which I found to be incredibly helpful.
A very interesting time in history. That figure could be (actually looks like he's) holding a sceptre.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this. I am always here if you need to chat. There are some great queer theology books and writing that might be helpful for you to navigate this relationship. Unfortunately, you can't really do much to change his views. This book is a great place to start.
You know, there’s a book that you would benefit from, but I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Bye Felicia! 🙋🏿♂️
