I'll recommend my partner's book if that's ok? She's not on Reddit, but she's super talented.

Looks like the link is to a different book, instead of the one in the post title. Here’s the link to it I found
Hmm, Succubus has been on my radar for a while but I never pulled the trigger and read it. I'd heard good things and bad things and your post confirms that.
I didn't know about all the pop culture stuff. That drives me crazy and I wonder if I'd be able to get through the book.
But your post did get me interested in trying this one out myself. I really like the whole succubus theme and haven't found a harem book that does it well.
Just opining out loud...
1) not sure if Maledom makes sense in a succubus story
2) there be a lot of succubus sex in a succubus story
I'm really enjoying these "book club" discussion posts. I hope they happen more often and generate a lot of good debate about the books.
When I see one on a book I've read, I'll jump in!
Beware of Chicken. https://www.amazon.com/Beware-Chicken-Xianxia-Cultivation-Novel-ebook/dp/B09Y6RQSHM
It's Xianxia but the protagonist wants nothing to do with that life. I enjoyed it.
My condolences for the rough time you and your family are going through.
New employee at pharmaceutical plant falls in love with her weekly sperm donor.
Beware of Chicken harvested many tears with the most recent chapter!
The first volume was published on Amazon a bit ago, while the other chapters are still up on Royal Road.
The premise is majority slice-of-life in a cultivation world, where the protagonist finds himself added to a body whose previous operator just suffered a massive beatdown from fellow sect members. Protagonist "nopes" out of continuing at the sect, goes off to a region infamous for being weak, and he starts up a farm.
Cultivation shenanigans do still manage to take place, in large part due to the use of qi to farm, and the titular chicken, which is the first of the farm's animals to awaken as a Spirit Beast.
His Secret Illuminations is the book if you've been enjoying the WYLAMG series IMO. Fantasy, rather than post-post-apoc. Female main character is a badass warrior woman, male main character is a monk who can do magic. He's a very shy boy who gets stolen into the world and learns who he is when he's not oppressed by the structure of the monastery.

You'd probably like "Beware of Chicken", it's an isekai-style cultivation story where the protagonist rejects the traditional "main character" syndrome for a more peaceful life of farming. It becomes almost shamanistic, with the farm animals slowly gaining sentience and becoming characters in their own right.
I would like to introduce you to Beware of Chicken. It's a much gentler story, and the characters are wonderful.
Here's the summary:
"A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about . . . farming????
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body.
Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here.
Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster. I’m not used to seeing a chicken move with such grace . . . but Qi makes everything kind of wonky, so it’s probably fine.
Instead of a lifetime of battle, my biggest concerns are building a house, the size of my harvest, and the way the girl from the nearby village glares at me when I tease her.
A slow, simple, fulfilling life in a place where nothing exciting or out of the ordinary ever happens . . . right?"
The story recently got released on Kindle Unlimited. Amazon's rules says you can't have the story out for free elsewhere: https://www.amazon.com/Beware-Chicken-Xianxia-Cultivation-Novel-ebook/dp/B09Y6RQSHM/ref=tmm\_kin\_swatch\_0?\_encoding=UTF8&qid=1657163540&sr=8-1
The drath thing is actually a giant xianxia reference. Anyone who ever read chinese web novels will understand what Cultivators, Pills, and the 'refining' of body and soul means and why not only it makes sense that the old monks managed to push a god into the abyss , it would be strange if they werent capable of at least this much. I guess Pirate just assumed that most people who are willing to read 9 million words of a webnovel probably read some eastern ones.
I fully trust that pirateaba will eventually explain their take on the xianxia and 'cultivation' genre , but until then i can only tell you that you are missing the context. Pirate is a fan of the xianxia genre , they even congratulated a fellow author , Casualfarmer, on their novel Beware of Chicken (a parody of cultivation novels) reaching 1# place on patreon
Travis Baldree does a lot of books on the cultivation side of things. On a side note he just wrote and narrated a new LitRPG book called Legends and Lattes. Cool to see a narrator like a genre so much that they write their own book in said genre!
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, also available as an audiobook narrated by the author.
This book is an incredibly cozy fantasy novel; its only downside is that it will cause cravings for warm cinnamon rolls and incredible cups of coffee.
What great choices! That pasta looks delightful and THAT BOOK! I'm super interested!
For my book, I recommend Legends and Lattes. It's cozy, kind, and Thimble is everything. An orc barbarian quits the fighting life to pursue her dream and finds a cute girlfriend to boot!
For my recipe: hibiscus tea!
4 tbsp hibiscus flowers 1 cinnamon stick Honey, to taste (I recommend a darker honey) or sweetener of choice A dash of vanilla
Bring 4 cups of water to a simmer, dunk in the cinnamon stick. Let simmer for about 3 minutes then add the hibiscus and simmer for 3-5 more minutes. Sweeten add desired and taste test to see if you need to simmer a bit more. Add just a small splash of vanilla. Lovely both warm and cold! Sometimes I add a few allspice berries or juniper berries.

The Eleanor Morgan novels by Amy Cissell might work for you. A bit more spice than Briggs, but not drastically so. Romance subplot, but firmly not the main plot or even the series B plot. It's a complete series at 7 books. First in series is free pretty much every where. It starts as a road trip story as Eleanor and her band of paranormal misfits have to open the portals separating the human world from the fae world. Fae, dragon shifters, werewolves, vampires, witches. It's got a good sense of humor.
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree - a cozy fantasy novel
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, the audiobook is also narrated by Travis Baldree if you prefer audiobooks.
My cozy-fantasy novel releases as eBook, audiobook, and paperback on Tuesday the 22nd. (Well, actually, the paperback is available now).

It's low-stakes high-fantasy - baking + coffee + building montages + late-life self-reinvention + sweet queer romance + the Forgotten Realms vibes.
JACKET BLURB
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv the orc barbarian cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen.
However, her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners and a different kind of resolve.
A hot cup of fantasy slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic froth.
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree, coming out on the 22nd of this month. You can pre-order the ebook; audiobook and paperback will be available on launch day, but can't be set for pre-order.
The upcoming Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree has a lesbian MC and a sapphic romance, neither of which are central to the main plotline. It is currently available for pre-order and will be released on the 22nd of this month. The story is absolutely wonderful, and it is one that I will go back to over and over because it gets better every time you read it. A book review I read recently described it as a warm cup of coffee that you can just keep sipping from, and I think that is a perfect description.
Blurb from Amazon:
High Fantasy with a double-shot of self-reinvention

So, the book doesn't come out until Feb. 22, but I highly recommend Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. It is a cozy, feel-good book, and it's a standalone novel, so you don't have to worry about waiting on the next book in the series. LOL.
