Yes, the Prose Edda translated by Anthony Faulkes and Volsunga Saga translated by Finch are the main supplemental primary readings I would recommend.
As to secondary sources, some good books are Turville-Petre's "Myth and Religion of the North" (super-expensive but a good library should have it), and anything by Margaret Clunies-Ross, Tom Dubois, or Rudy Simek.
Havamal is my favorite. It reminds me so much of the advice my grandfather gave me (and indeed part of my book is the Cowboy Havamal.
I think the translation of the Prose Edda by Anthony Faulkes is really good. So I don't think there's the same hole to fill there, since my issue with the other translations of the Poetic Edda was their readability and that's not a problem with Faulkes' Prose Edda.
I did purchase this and it’s a good way to start recognising sentences.
IMO the best Prose Edda you can buy is also available for free here: http://vsnrweb-publications.org.uk/EDDArestr.pdf
It's the Faulkes translation from 1995. If you want to buy a hard copy, you can do that here: https://www.amazon.com/Edda-Everymans-Library-Snorri-Sturluson/dp/0460876163
I'm working through Olly Richards's Short Stories in Swedish for beginners. It's been really helpful for reading comprehension. There's vocab lists and study questions and the stories are entertaining.
This immediately came to mind

Synopsis:
"Rhonda is a noble giant, a huge savage beauty learning to become a ranger and a chieftess. But five centuries after a terrible war eliminated the noble giants' civilization, Rhonda wakes up alone on a runic ritual site far from home. Her culture is plundered, erased, and nearly forgotten. Terrible beasts roam the land, and smaller beings are taking over. Stranger yet, there's a mystical mechanism revealing to Rhonda her class, attributes, perks, star power, and more. It's the Star System! And its master could be an eldritch thing covering the world, unknown to all except the giantess herself. Follow Rhonda and her friends on an epic CONQUEST to collect star power, go berserk on their enemies, and make an impact no one can ignore. The noble giants' civilization may have fallen, but it's Rhonda's birthright to shake the realm."
On amazon there is a book with short stories in Norwegian that are really useful, I have a few in the languages I am learning, and they start out really simple and get progressively more challenging, quite cheap and you can get them on kindle, so is worth a look!
Its fine, tho Anthony Faulkes' Prose Edda is a more complete edition by including Háttatal.
Carolyne Larrington's translation of the Poetic Edda, the 2nd edition, is a solid translation with notes.
Skol! I posted here a while ago offering this story on RoyalRoad. Now here's another chance to pick it up on KU!

This series is fun and aimed at kids. It's a collection of folk/ fairytales from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. The other books are folk/fairytales from Japan, Ireland, India, and East Africa, the artwork is beautiful in all of them.

Yeah the Poetic Edda translated by Lee Hollander and I for sure will, I’ll probably dump it in a google doc and upload it for free, just wanna get through it originally first and then “re-translate it” in my spare time as a passion project
Edit: Found it on amazon
De Uitvreter / Titaantjes / Dichtertje / Mene Tekel by the Dutch author Nescio. It's been published in English as Amsterdam Stories.
They're short stories. De Uitvreter (The Freeloader) and Titaantjes (Little Titans) in particular are true classics about youth, appreciating nature, and naive idealism leading either to cynical conformism or going mad. They were written like 100 years ago but are a true joy to read. Especially recommended for those with an interest in existentialist philosophy/literature.
Dude paganism and the horseshit surrounding it is so overblown.
Christianity came into Europe and forced the native population to convert or face death.
If you were an outside force trying to work your way into and existing ecosystem, wouldn't you talk shit about the local beliefs to try and get people to try your shit out instead?
I recommend The Poetic Edda.
This is the version I used in my Old Norse class. :)
I am about halfway through the Duolingo course right now, which I LOVE. It is so well designed and I am seeing huge improvements already and can recall a lot of what I've learned. I am supplementing with "Norsk, nordmenn og Norge", which I haven't used too much yet, but I am enjoying as well. What are some good children/teen novels that I could start to read after I finish my beginning courses? I do not mind having to translate some since it will strengthen my vocab and hopefully I'll be able to recall okay by the end of the book. I want something more advance than a kid's little book, more of a young reader's novel. Any suggestions? I have this book on my list but would love help finding others (unfortunately Amazon doesn't have too many options): http://www.amazon.com/dp/8299968003/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=242RS6W9R88E9&coliid=I1AT5LPZWLYCDP
