Rule 34... https://www.amazon.com/Space-Raptor-Invasion-Chuck-Tingle-ebook/dp/B00S4B95RQ
I mean, I feel like Chuck Tingle has done more for Rule 34 than any other "mainstream" author, but still...
The Atlantis Gene is the first of a 3 part series that gets more absurd and out there with every passing chapter. It's basically what would happen if Shyamalan wrote a book and attempted to include a plot twist every 3-4 chapters.
I read something like 220 books this year, and I'd wager that Gideon the Ninth is my favorite. Great book, about lesbian necromancers in space, with amazing characters, great story, and creepy as hell depictions of necromancy =D
I like educational tv stuff and read trash like Space Raptor Butt Trilogy for fun.
Hmm...I think they gotta make that a tv series so I can better fit on this column list.
A book you want is The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers.

Nothing really epic happens in this book, which is what makes it so good. It just follows the crew of a ship that (best way to describe it) plots hyperspace routes on an adventure to plot a route further than anyone has gone before. Again, this is less full of sci-fi tropes and more character interaction. I recommend it to anyone. Also, it is a civilian ship, so no military.

I liked Firefly, and I liked this, they are different, but have lots of similarities.
Disappointed they didn't check out Space Raptor Butt Invasion and the other similar Dinosaur Romance novels
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is $1.99 on Amazon kindle right now. I picked it up the other day and binged thru it...someday I'll learn not to start reading a book at 1030 when I have to work the next day...lol. It was well worth the price, I enjoyed it and will probably get the next one too
Just thinking about it and re-reading your post, have you looked at Charles Stross's Laundry Files? If you liked The Dresden Files these may be right up your alley...
This reminds me of coming across a book on Amazon and I lost it at the title. (I didn't read it though) I didn't know getting screwed by a raptor was a common fantasy. Even worse it's apparently a trilogy
Lesbian necromancers in space is literally how it's advertised. I only got about 50 pages in the first time I picked it up (library book, ran out of time), and I definitely still got the picture loud and clear.
And yeah that's a great point about the Broken Earth trilogy that I should have mentioned! Jemisin is really great about writing diverse characters.
I know you said fantasy but trust me try this it's science fiction but If you want some light feel good reading this is a great series https://www.amazon.com/Night-Union-Station-EarthCent-Ambassador-ebook/dp/B00K4I391A
I smell the next Chuck Tingle novel!
In case you're somehow not familiar with his genius, here is one of his seminal works.
Part 1 is on Amazon. I'm working on Part 2 and a prequel at the moment. :)
Hi. I'm Matthew Graybosch, author of Without Bloodshed and Silent Clarion.
In Without Bloodshed, Morgan Stormrider must take down a dictator without killing him to prove that the Phoenix Society doesn't use assassins to suppress dissent. It's a tough job, but he's going to get a little help from his friends.
In Silent Clarion, Naomi Bradleigh decides she needs a vacation away from London after taking some time off and seeing first hand that she can't just repercussions from her work as an Adversary at the office. Curious about disappearances in a little town called Clarion, she investigates and gets in way over her head.
Both novels are part of the Starbreaker setting, but are independent of one another save for Silent Clarion's heroine being a major character in Without Bloodshed.
Without Bloodshed is available now on Amazon. Silent Clarion is currently in serialization, and a Kindle serial will begin on June 1st with part 1, "The Geographic Cure".
I also founded /r/fantasyauthorclub, a little place for people who are already publishing to hang out and talk shop. Self-promotion is welcome there, as well, though the audience is still quite small.
Yeah, Nevernight has nothing on the hilariocity that is Space Raptor Butt Invasion. Although your last sentence makes me curious, I can't think of any story that centers on the sexual experiences of a man. At least, something that isn't full on erotica or something comedic.

This should really be right up your alley. It's really well done.
It took me about five seconds to find the following on Amazon's Kindle storefront for the GtN:
>At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.
HtN and NtN are also sold without DRM.
So... buy it there?
And use Calibre to convert it from .mobi to .epub if it's really going to keep you up at night?
Makes sense. I'd check with Main street Books/Second Flight. They're (now) owned by the same folks, so they probably have a good line on any book clubs.
If you want a good "entry" book to SF/fantasy, check out Becky Chambers - specifically, the Wayfarer series. Here's a link to the first one. They're very wholesome, lovely books. There's not exactly romance in them, but in her books, everyone is doing their best and nobody wants to hurt anyone else.
Besides Chambers, there's a decent number of SF/fantasy books that are also thrillers, mysteries, and romance! I think the book club just read Project Hail Mary, which was definitely thriller-esque.
Found Chuck Tingle's account.
It's not completely fantasy... but what about fantasy/sci-fi?
I hate it when people post screenshots that show me only what they want me to see.
It has over 7200 reviews and 4.4 stars.
Stop going out of your way to be offended. JFC.
He is clearly unhinged. "This most important book" - please. I bet Space Raptor Butt Invasion is a much more important book.
Try looking for entertainment that does things from a different "gaze"
It has been nice for me.
The female gaze provides a new perspective on storytelling that I am enjoying.
Y the last man is pretty good.

And if the female gaze isn't interesting to you then cross cultural things could help.
Dinosaur porn, pretty much. Performing, editing, directing; I'm down for whatever. I'd really love to do a film adaptation of Space Raptor Butt Invasion by Chuck Tingle.
I'm not the person you were asking, butt I really wanted to share my dream job with you. Cheers!
Audible Narration is the associated Audible audiobook. Here's an example that isn't part of the free Prime offerings:
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
The Kindle edition is on sale today for $1.99. Additionally, you can "Add Audible narration to your purchase for just $12.99." That's not such a great deal, but frequently, the combined price of the Kindle edition plus the discounted Audible version add up to less than the cost of a credit, making that the cheaper option (usually not a *lot* cheaper, but worth checking if you're on a tight budget). The discount used to be a lot better a lot more often, but scrolling through the Matchmaker, I do see some Audible versions of Kindle books I already own for under $8.
no its about a raptor and this dude having gay sex
im not kidding its a real book
I smell the next Chuck Tingle novel!

Jennifer Foehner Wells' Confluence series, starting with Fluency might also fit. It definitely has an on-and-off military aspect that rears its ugly head, but while that creates the backdrop, there is a lot more to it than that, and I wouldn't say battles are the central interesting thing in the story. The main character is a linguist, and there is a great deal of interesting discussion of forms of government, the rights of individuals and species, and how they differ among planets and species and why. It's a bit fanciful, not hard scifi, but I'd classify it as social science fiction.
I just started Gideon the Ninth. I feel like the narrative style is somewhat similar. I thought lesbian necromancers in space would be campier than this, but so far it's engaging and entertaining.
