Strathmore Toned Tan! This is my favorite brand for sketchbooks, but this is the first time I've used tan paper/charcoals. I have the 9 in x 12 in size.
Strathmore 412-9 400 Series Toned Tan Sketch Pad, 9"x12" Wire Bound, 50 Sheets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008D2TU76/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_I5NuCbBTWA36T
I have this Very Big Sketchbook as my Book. I hot glued in scrapbook paper from michaels, those are like .87 cents. And I print off all my work (spells pictures rituals) because I’m not sitting here writing everything down when I’ve already made my documents look nice.
I like this method because I can tear the paper out and the scrapbook background may be damaged a little, but I can always glue something back over it and tada like new. Also, I’m the only one whose ever gonna see it so I do what I want.
Edit: I LOVED watching charmed and always wanted a Book as thick as theirs so I really love this sketchbook and it was only $27.
It's just a big blank book with 300 sheets
I wasn't looking for anything professional, just something big that I could write and doodle in that would last me a while
I started with regular printer paper, but I later switched to marker paper. Marker paper does not let the ink bleed through so I think it is a good investment. Also with regular paper, the pen starts to fray after continued use.
Hmm I use multimedia card for pretty much everything

I was looking at a strathmore toned sketchbook as a Christmas present to myself
Crescent rendr sketchbook, completely bleed proof, watercolors, spray paint, you name it. It's great and cheap. Like 12 bucks on Amazon.
Rendr Hardbound Sketchbook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00915UUUU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_.AFOybV9C9X58
Peter Draws has a really cool video of this sketch book, he uses a lot of ink in it so if your skeptical just check that out.
I got this off of amazon. It's the pentalic aqua journal. So far I really love the paper. has cotton in it so it's fairly absorbent as compared with canson xl or something like that. https://www.amazon.com/Pentalic-Aqua-Journal-Page-Book/dp/B00479VQOE?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_3445696011
Thanks! It's the Pentalic Aquajournal! I really love the paper and binding. Before i was using Canson xl paper which is ok, but this has actual cotton content which makes it much more absorbent. I think i actually like it better than 100% cotton because you get a nice mix of having the paint soak in but not too much. I got mine off amazon https://www.amazon.com/Pentalic-Aqua-Journal-Page-Book/dp/B00479VQOE?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_3445696011
Pentallic. I have the bigger one and the smaller one. I like the smaller one because when I go out, I don't have much time to draw or paint long.
First and foremost, Eagle. It is the most awesome tool for organizing images/references. I can add multiple tags to the images and I can add a single image to many different folders!!! It's very useful if I want to have the same reference image for different projects. I can never go back to not using Eagle.
And second, my Rendr no show thru paper sketchbook! I can work with pen or even markers and if I flip the page, it's like the other side of the page wasn't even used! It's like magic!!! Working with markers in my day to day sketchbook now is so seamless! I highly recommend it.
I recently watched a YouTube video of someone using this large hardcover 600 page sketchbook. The price is right and you’ll probably not run out of space for a while
1) (kinda niche) Strathmore toned tan 400 series has brought my art up to the next levels (I do commissions for customers all around the globe in this sketchbook so I think the papers pretty special... for my niche anyway). strathmore 400 tan 9x12"
2) (generalist) Daler-Rowney Mixed Media Sketchbook A4 just all round adaptable for every medium (except perhaps super wet watercolour). SUPER TOUGH. + I think this is the perfect paper texture for me as it has quite a bit of texture'bite' but not too much. Only minor gripe is that it is ringbinder but not perforated.. so you have to kinda cut it out..... so now for my finished/ commission pieces that I'm worried about framing I use art gecko A4 watercolor pad
I haven't tried it yet but the Crescent rendr sketchbooks are supposed to be good for blending markers without bleeding through the next page.
I know only sketchbook version of this if you are good with plain paper with no lines. Few years ago there was a trend in the youtube art community that people bought this one from Amazon to fill as fast as possible for the challenge. It seems to have 110 gsm paper, but I didn’t use it yet. I’m sure there are revievs of it online as it got very popular.
Now you can! Best notebook for filling out 100%. Never bleeds to the next page even when blacking out an entire page with sharpie.
Yeah, I can see how a junk journal may not be a good idea if it will ramp you up. If you want a couple of calming evening activities, I like puzzles and adult (not sexual, just more complex) coloring books. This is one I am eying on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Mandala-Coloring-Quality-Hardback-Binding/dp/0996511210/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2M7PW7R4ZI3K7&keywords=spiral+bound+adult+coloring+book&qid=1638848685&s=books&sprefix=spiral+%2Cstripbooks%2C261&sr=1-9
I like using gel pens when I color.
Yes, I think they're super cute! They are pretty simple - not too intricate - so they'd be good for both adults and kids. All of the images are really adorable :3
If you want something more difficult and like mandalas, I really like this coloring book. The pages are really thick so you can use markers with no bleed :)
That is wild to look at. There's always the 600 page VERY BIG SKETCHBOOK for next time.
You probably need something like a Crescent Rendr sketchbook for this. My understanding is that GSM isn't the issue; it's the formulation of the alcohol ink itself that causes it to bleed through almost any kind of paper regardless of how thick or thin it is. This is the only paper I know of that's specially designed to avoid that.
Leda Art Supply Sketchbooks handsdown. Absolutely love all of mine. I do a lot of charcoal and ink work, and they work really well despite how thin the paper feels. I also like it on the smoother side, and the paper has a nice balance between smooth a toothy. Also a sucker for off white color. Honestly, the only thing I can see other people having a problem with are that they only come in soft cover. Otherwise, I love everything about them.

They're around 20 bucks on amazon. Not super cheap, but it takes a while for me to fill one out and it feels premium enough for me to feel it's worth it.

Honorable mention goes to Etchr watercolor sketchbooks. I use mine primarily for brush pen work. Definitely more of a specialized book. I don't use it all the time, only for really heavy colored work, but when I do it's quite nice. Cotton paper can be a joy to work with. Far fewer page count, and I believe they only come in landscape, so be aware of that if that's not your thing. Cover is straight white, but is actually meant to be customized. Also, stupid expensive, so it may not be your thing.
Sorry I just saw the message (I was sleepin!) haha.
Here it is, friendo. It's a really nice notebook. I got two of em :D
I can vouch for this being a really nice sketchbook at a decent price: https://www.amazon.com/Leda-Art-Supply-Softbound-Sketchbook/dp/B00YVS969S
Although the nicer the sketchbook, the harder it is to fill it up with less-than-high-quality sketches.
this is what i use Rend-R
Doesn't bleed and the pages are thick.
Most of my art is posted here . I usually get it done on a sketchbook. I rarely use blanks but I have a shortbox of blanks I need to use but don't.
I carry 4 sketchbooks with me at a con.
Has anyone used Rendr no show through sketch books/pads?
I've never found the perfect sketch book but I think this is the one.
The exact one i'm trying to find is:
https://www.amazon.com/Rendr-12-00011-Hardbound-Sketchbook/dp/B00915UV3Q
Can't find it on ebay for a reasonable price. This is different to the flat lay one, which has a softcover.

Sketchbook is from Leda Art Supply, it's a great quality book! Amazon link
A few other people had the same reaction. It's a paper by Strathmore called TONED TAN. When I adjusted the scan a bit, it turned into the public-shower-floor you see here. The grossness made me laugh so I left it.
Sort of. I saw this at half price books. Also found a link on Amazon (below). It's selected scenes from her coloring/activity books. Also available as post cards.
Secret Garden Artist's Edition: 20 Drawings to Color and Frame https://www.amazon.com/dp/1780677316/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_mMZuwbXM85SHX[Click Here](http://)
Sorry if I didn't link that right. On mobile.
> I want to get her something that will inspire her to get in the studio!
Alternatively, you could get her a nice watercolor journal to get her drawing/painting outside the studio.
I just got one and really like it.
I recently got some Canson marker paper (100sheets for $15 in my local Michaels) and it works really well! You can only write on one side (the other side seems to repel ink), but that's fine because it's thin enough to see guidelines on a sheet underneath instead of having to draw them for every practice sheet.
Edit: Fixed the link. There are more sizes available on amazon than locally. Will have to note that for myself, because it could be nice to have something larger when my pad runs out.
