I've bought one of these great, great Amazon Fire TV Sticks and it has not set anything on fire. Total fake news. Very amazing product. ^(Really, really great.)
If you have multiple TVs, amazon has the Fire TV on sale right now (refurbished).

I couldn't recommend the Fire TV any more strongly for using Vue. I have tried many devices but I don't have a PS4 (though I understand it's also a great experience). Just an fyi if you're looking to hook up any more TVs.
Cara Amazon,
apprezzo che tu abbia reso disponibile la tua versione personale del Chromecast/Apple TV.
Ma perchè chiamarlo "Basic Edition" se non c'è una versione diversa?
I watched all of "The Man in the High Tower on the Shield" and I am working through "Disenchantment" on Netflix. I was using the Amazon Prime Fire Stick https://www.amazon.ca/Stick-Basic-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B01ETRGE68/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536456291&sr=8-1&keywords=prime+video+stick but I didn't like the remote to I bought the Shield and unplugged the Roku.
I'm looking at my Shield sign in screen right now. I see Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, Google Play and Nvidia Games. I wish I could delete Nvidia Games as I no interest in games.
This is for Prime in Canada (not US Prime but I don't know if there is a difference). I am near Toronto.
This will change with the new Fire TV Stick 4K with all-new Alexa Voice Remote, streaming media player will be released on October 31, 2018 https://www.amazon.com/Introducing-Fire-TV-Stick-4K-with-All-New-Alexa-Voice-Remote/dp/B079QHML21/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1539934424&sr=8-11&keywords=amazon+fire+stick#tech. This more than enough to handle anything Kodi has. I personally use and recommend a Nvidia Shield worth the cost to me. But the new 4K Fire TV Stick is cheap at 49.99
Did this Roku support page offer any guidance to help your situation? (See its links.) I admit I can't hear well enough to enjoy a high quality sound system so I haven't tried this.
For Fire TV stick and the Fire TV Cube, see the chart on this page for their technical details.
LOL, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, they all stopped supporting running on the Wii YEARS ago!
Literally go pick up an Amazon FireTV Stick Lite for $22 and it will do all that with zero problems -- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YNLBS7R/ref=pav_title
Use the Wii to play Wii and GameCube games. That is what the passage of times has left it to do, and it does that best.
Mmmm I know this is well outside of this subreddit, but have you considered Fire TV Stick 4k? - https://www.amazon.com/Fire-TV-Stick-4K-with-Alexa-Voice-Remote/dp/B079QHML21
If you have [legally purchased] 4k movies on your local network, you can stream those with Plex Server (which can run on something like Synology NAS). Otherwise, it supports all streaming services pretty much, and 4k playback is excellent.
Yes you are. You are forgetting the unfriendliness of setting up a pi and troubleshooting problems. Burning the OS is easy, but setting up everything else? Well I hope you are great at knowing command lines that have been passed down from 30 years ago. If something doesn't work right, well that's your problem for doing something that the devs/community didn't support.
Grab the firestick. Netflix will work. HDR/Dolbyvision will work (4k stick that is $29.99 right now), and you won't need to worry about troubleshooting magical problems that just pop up. If you want "other" apps, install apktime, and go to town.
If you bought one that says "This can only be shipped to the UK" - and you used ParcelMotel; it's you're own fault. There are shipping restrictions for a reason. Luckily for you, Amazon is pretty good with returns - so just send it back and stop complaining.
In the interest of helping an Irish brother out... You can get the one that work in Ireland here: https://www.amazon.com/Fire-TV-Stick-Basic-Edition/dp/B01ETRGE68
Just putting it out there for those doing bootcamp would like to miracast to their TVs - FireStick is on sale for Prime days for $29.99 (40% off)
The "Fire TV Stick 4k Max" is currently available for only $35 if you want to give it a try. You can also trade in the old one to get a discount.

I'm looking at the actual list price on Amazon. The list price of the 4k is $54 and the sale price currently $34.

I just recently setup an older family's 4K firestick
It was incredibly fast and responsive inside the UI
That's a major major for me; the number one requirement for me.
I can recommend the Amazon firestick.
Is there a specific firestick needed for this? This firestick amazon page seems to suggest that the micro USB is "for power only".
After a little research, going to amazons website, the fire TV cube does indeed support HDR10, HDR10+, and dolby vision. That makes me assume that the issue is probably with Kodi and not the Cube.
What do you think?
And you have no other devices capable of displaying Netflix on the big screen aside from consoles? Or you just prefer using a controller?
> For me, it doesn't feel like a minor inconvenience, it feels like a whole new purchase.
I'm not sure what you mean by that? The value proposition of the Switch totally changes for you, or you feel like you need to buy something else to compensate for the lack of Netflix on Switch? Either way, if you value something that can utilize streaming services over a gaming console, then you should just buy something aside from a gaming console...
I get "just buy more" can be an abrasive argument, but I'm assuming you have at least a little bit of disposable income if you can afford gaming consoles. Check out an Amazon Fire Stick. It's $40, and it comes with a remote that uses Alexa that blows any other type of input out of the water. I have no trouble with the voice recognition (despite having a thick accent), and you can just speak the title of a movie on the home screen for the OS, and it will pull it up in any streaming service its offered on. You click one button, and it launches the streaming app and pulls the movie up for you. It's amazing.
Rather than picking up a new TV, a cheap streamer stick might be worth a try. Either a Chromecast (currently on sale for $40), or a Fire TV stick 4K for $30 would be cheap ways to bypass the slower Sony processing and hopefully improve the experience.
The SoC in the X900F is slow. You can try a factory data reset on the TV and it might speed things up some, especially if you haven't done one in a while. That said you'll likely be happier with an external device such as your Roku, a Chromecast with Google TV or Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
No you don't need a browser on your TV. You might be able to mirror your phone to your TV through the Roku. It will cast whatever's on your phone straight to your TV. Again google "how to mirror my iPhone/Android (whatever you have) to my Roku and follow the instructions. If you can't do it then I'd invest in the Fire TV Stick for $25. According to Google the Fire Stick supports a web browser that you download directly off the Fire Stick. You could also use the Fire Stick to mirror your phone to the TV.
I forgot to mention in the chat. I know some people paying cable subscription. You can avoid monthly feeing by just buying this device on Amazon called Firestick on Amazon. It's on sale right now for $35. You can basically use for watching all TV shows (including netflix & disney) and movies w/out paying subscription. You just need to install this app called Cinema HD. Just look up youtube on how to download it.

Roku Ultra is a good streaming device but you can get a Fire TV Cube right now for $69 and for the money its a better device. The SoC used in the Fire TV Cube is 300% faster than the one in the Roku so its going to age better with time.
Nope - newest Amazon Fire TV 4K does Dolby Vision and I'm pretty sure lossless audio too (if using Plex) since even my older Fire TVs play FLAC and other formats.
External box is always better. Apple TV is best, but expensive. A very good second choice is Fire Stick 4K Max ($55), and it is $20 off with code AddFTV , and it is an easy to use and fast stick. Recommended. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MQZXN1X
Here you go guys, I just saved you $100.
Fire TV Stick 4K Max - $54.99 + All the streaming apps - Free
They are all free and incredibly easy to install for even the novice.
This last one was released end of summer-ish last year. Unless they release a new FireCube I don't think you don't have anything to worry about. Also look at the 4K max I spaced the fact they have 2 4K sticks, that is what i'd buy
As long as your Plex library doesn't consist of 60GB bluray rips with TrueHD and DTS MA audio, the Cube is very solid. The only 'reasonably' priced device that can passthrough TrueHD/DTS MA is the Shield.
Besides that restriction, the CPU performance of the 2nd gen Cube is equal to the Shield. But you can get the Cube for $70 + %25 Cashback (~$52).
https://www.amazon.com/Hands-free-streaming-device-Alexa-Ultra/dp/B08XMDNVX6
I have a Cube and Plex is in my top 2 used apps.
I will say that the Amazon homescreen is a mess of ads. I use a custom launcher (wolf launcher), to do away with all the advertising. If you get the Cube I HIGHLY recommend you don't update it when you first turn it on. Block updates immediately. Amazon updates are self-serving, and the January update is bad news if you want to use a custom launcher.
For the money, I would go to a Fire Stick 4K Max. It has Alexa, which can change inputs and open apps, the remote can control the TV, and I believe you get a free 30 days of Amazon Prime when you buy one.
You buy either the TV or the firestick. Available at Amazon. Introducing Fire TV Stick 4K Max streaming device, Wi-Fi 6, Alexa Voice Remote (includes TV controls) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MQZXN1X/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_5HP1TZ18QDWDK0YGA1B9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
