The Atlantis Gene is the first of a 3 part series that gets more absurd and out there with every passing chapter. It's basically what would happen if Shyamalan wrote a book and attempted to include a plot twist every 3-4 chapters.
I would have to say John Dies at the End. While it's not obviously inspired by Lovecraft, after I read it the only thing I could say to describe it was 'Modern-day Lovecraftian Comedy'.
This premise is similar to The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, which I would recommend to all you nice people.
I agree with you that US and South Korean should NEVER sign the peace treat until North Korea makes some major progresses on denuclearization and Moon administration has been repeatedly saying that since he took the office. I am not sure where is the disconnection?
Even tho you don't believe nuclear war could happen on Korean soil, but a lot of Korean experts, ex-CIA directors, and US policy makers believe there are about 20% to 30% chance that we might have 1-day nuclear war on Korean peninsular due to miss calculation/judgement and I believe their expert opinions.
There is also a new book that describes one case of 1-day nuclear Korean war due to miss-judgement.

This is from the preface of one of those "novels". I kid you not.
America’s growing political and cultural divisions have finally split the United States apart. Now, as the former blue states begin to collapse under the dead weight of their politically correct tyranny, a lethal operative haunted by his violent past undertakes one last mission to infiltrate and take out his target in the nightmarish city of Los Angeles, deep in the heart of the People’s Republic of North America.
I liked this a lot more than I expected. If you want to read a book with the stories that inspired Control, check out this: https://www.amazon.com/There-No-Antimemetics-Division-qntm-ebook/dp/B08FHHQRM2 pretty good so far
"Hey," Watney said over the radio, "I've got an idea."
"Of course you do," Lewis said. "What do you got?"
"I could find something sharp in here and poke a hole in the glove of my EVA suit. I could use the escaping air as a thruster and fly my way to you. The source of the thrust would be on my arm, so I'd be able to direct it pretty easily."
"How does he come up with this shit?" Martinez interjected.
"Hmm," Lewis said. "Could you get forty-two meters per second that way?"
"No idea."
"I can't see you having any control if you did that," Lewis said. "You'd be eyeballing the intercept and using a thrust vector you can barely control."
"I admit it's fatally dangerous," Watney said. "But consider this: I'd get to fly around like Iron Man."
"We'll keep working on ideas," Lewis said.
"Iron Man, Commander. Iron Man."
The last one is actually a short story called The Egg by Andy Weir. He's a really talented artist and you should check out his novel, The Martian, which is being adapted into a movie to be released in November.
I recommend looking into There is No Antimemetics Division. It’s an SCP related property about memory-eating entities loose on Earth.
Mas se souber inglês, vá de audiobook.
It's a book, but I think you'd love There is No Anti-Memetic Division - a short novel available on Kindle. High recommend, and assuming you're familiar with SCP, you'll love it (the author is a pretty prolific writer for the wiki).
It's the best SCP-derivative media I've encountered.
This is basically what daemon was about, economic stress on a broken system to force it to fail and give way to an objectively better one.

See how Andy Weir did it in the beginning of Project Hail Mary--then read the whole book because it's terrific and you'll see how he handles a lot of these scenarios where the descriptions move the plot and character forward.
There's actually a novel called The 2020 Commission about a hypothetical nuclear exchange between the US and North Korea and one of the plot points is that a North Korean nuke misses DC and lands on Arlington. Read it while I was still living in Clarendon.
My absolute favorite example of a very alien lifeform relating to humanity is from Andy Weir's The Hail Mary. I won't say anymore than that because the book is honestly great and shouldn't be spoiled, but if I were looking for inspiration for how to make a completely alien sapient species, that'd be it.
I can recommend this book
It’s got a proper control vibe based In the SCP universe. Really weird and interesting story
I love John Dies at the End. There are three novels so far with a fourth apparently on the way; I recommend the first novel if you want to feel disturbed.
There's also a lot of humor; but the basics of this story for me are Lovecraftian existential horror: The universe is a vast, uncaring void full of terrible things against which we are defenseless. Some of the musings in this book have kept me awake nights for the past nine years.
I love these books and I think everyone should read them; but honoring your request I'll just recommend the first novel.
The SCP foundation has a lot of good stories. “There is no antimnemetics division” by qntm is really good.

Think X files on crack, with an entire division of the government set on keeping that stuff from going bump in the night. https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/
Just finished a book called There Is No Antimemetics Division which comes pretty close to what you're looking for. It's a pretty quick read, and one of the most engaging things I've come across in some time.
I don't think you can--it's protected by Google's DRM. You can read them through the Play Books app.
Or you could just buy the book from Amazon for the same price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EMXBDMA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cqltBbNV7QGQ8
> Like Wtf, imagine a nuclear war breaks out but orange dumpling is out golfing..
The 2020 Commission Report on the North Korean Nuclear Attacks Against the United States: A Speculative Novel
by Jeffrey Lewis
Shit goes down while they're at Mar-a-lago. It discusses the actual setup they use there (not all the people that travel with the president can stay at maralago) and the implications of not having everyone immediately accessible.
https://www.amazon.com/Commission-Report-Nuclear-Attacks-Against-ebook/dp/B079VDR6HM
(Disclaimer: As a novel, it was mediocre. But its loaded to the gills with actual information [with citations] and I actually learned a bunch.)
There's a really good book by Jeffrey Lewis who works the arms control and nuclear nonproliferation industry... it's written as an after action report detailing how a tweet by Trump leads to a nuclear exchange with North Korea... given the personalities of Trump and Kim Jong Un it is disturbingly plausible.

This is an equivalent to "why don't you speak?" for an introvert. Gonna give you some hard love and say just suck it up. Use your imagination. You can't go outside so the only thing you can think of... is to literally just lay in bed and sulk and sleep?
Really? Is that the best you can fucking do?
Have you ever thought of, I dunno, picking up a book? An actual good book? Not the shitty ones in high school that try to shove life lessons down your throat. I mean a book that you'd actually want to read yourself? Try this, John Dies at the End, one of my all time favorites. Best thing is you can download free samples for pretty much all eBooks on Amazon.
What about exercise at home? Start those 30 day challenges. Learn to dance, tons of YouTube videos to teach yourself Salsa.
You said you bring your laptop so you can work anywhere, and that opportunity will still be there when this passes. But think about this. Now you can whip out a book and read. Chicks dig that shit.
You said you love exploring the city. There are tons of outdoor dancing - Bryant Park for one has these dance festivals every summer. Well now you'll have a one-up knowing Salsa. And guess what, plenty of those dance events are like 2:1 girls to guys. You show up knowing Salsa and ooo lawdy.
You have 2 paths right now. You can either do something about it, in which you can come out of this stronger, or don't, in which you'll end up depressed and tearing brain matter out of your ears. I know you can do this dude, you fucking got this
It's a really good book, they also used this quote at the beginning of the movie.
Latest Art From The Land By Aleron Kong By Antii Hakosaari https://smile.amazon.com/Land-Founding-LitRPG-Chaos-Seeds-ebook/dp/B0172GEB68/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1527477712&sr=8-5&keywords=aleron+kong
Semi-random pick: The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. Read the blurb on Amazon, but basically this dude keeps being reborn after he dies. Hi-jinks ensue.
This article is pure gold
And the columnist's novels look like great reads as well. Looks like I will be checking it out
Anyone ever read The Atlantis Gene series? It's fictional but has a lot of these theories in it about Antarctica and the global elite and ancient beings. Fun read. https://www.amazon.ca/Atlantis-Gene-Thriller-Origin-Mystery-ebook/dp/B00C2WDD5I
Anything is possible. But the "barrier" to success is no less in self-publishing than traditional publishing. People don't view SP works any differently.
In fact, it's probably harder to succeed in SP as you don't have all the resources of traditional publishing. Hence why a lot of SP novels tank because they are poorly written and produced. Very few people have the skills (or money to acquire things like editing services) to really have a shot at SP.
Also, like anything, it will take a while (years) to build a reader base, that's assuming you are really good.
But the #3 book overall in the Amazon store is self-published I believe.
With 12,000 reviews it's likely sold over a million copies. Safe to say the author has likely made millions.
In summary: Possible? Yes. Easy? No.

It's about a guy who keeps living his life over and over again, from birth to old age.
