I enjoyed Wearing the Cape, which feels like it does a realistic job of integrating heroes into modern society. Prior to reading Worm I'd have put this forward as the most realistic superpowered media I'd read/watched.
Some minor examples:
All the costumes (other than PR-appearance only costumes) include body armor, and even though she's a classic "flying brick" the protagonist has a costume with heavy defensive plates.
Planes have clearly marked points to indicate where someone with superflight should lift them, should the need arise.
heroes have no special legal powers, but will regularly assist police. No-knock warrants against supervillains are raising legal concerns, and the "I was mind controlled by the real villian" defense is causing chaos in the legal system.
One of the more important things a superhero team does is remain visible and build positive press to prevent public opinion turning on supers when villains cause problems. Rescuing cats stuck in trees is actually a pretty important duty, and having someone with excellent PR skills (either superpowered or otherwise) is essential to every team.
Superstrong is good. Superstrong with an oversized tungsten maul is better.
Yea it's Kyoshi's orgin story. It's made up of 2 novels. The first is " Rise of Kyoshi" and the sequal is "Shadow of Kyoshi".
The E-books are 10 dollars a piece on Amazon. For the physical books I would suggest Barnes and nobles

She's From this book! And the Anime re:Zero Ex, Vol. 1 Re:ZERO Ex light novel! This volume was written after the anime and its very, very good in my opinion, Its basically standalone, And its pretty tact with Ferris as a character, ~~And its the one where she's revealed to be trans~~
It's a light novel spin off so i'm not sure you'll be able to read it online but I was able to get it off amazon
I presume they're talking about this book trilogy. It's an alt-history World War I story where the two sides of the war are split between the Germanic "Flankers", who use steampunk mechs and machines, and the British "Darwinists", who instead use genetically modified creatures.
Not sure if it counts, but I’m reading Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World, Vol. 1 (an amazing Japanese Light Novel).
Here’s a the synopsis:
Subaru Natsuki was just trying to get to the convenience store but wound up summoned to another world. He encounters the usual things--life-threatening situations, silver haired beauties, cat fairies--you know, normal stuff. All that would be bad enough, but he's also gained the most inconvenient magical ability of all--time travel, but he's got to die to use it. How do you repay someone who saved your life when all you can do is die?
It comes out July 16th. Here is the amazon page, which includes the description.

The Rise of Kyoshi and The Shadow of Kyoshi are both very good!
This guy complaining about not understanding basic concepts while actively omitting information that shoots down his narrative from Nojima himself.
Pot, meet kettle.

I don't remember the main character having a mechanical dog companion, but I know there were some in the first book, and he was in the military, so maybe it came up later in the trilogy? (I've only read the first)

A new book series or just a new book. I know when I was young I loved being able to go to barnes and nobles or a book store and pick out my own book.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1416971742/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CC2-FbW62D6NG
Description: It is the cusp of World War I. The Austro-Hungarians and Germans have their Clankers, steam-driven iron machines loaded with guns and ammunition. The British Darwinists employ genetically fabricated animals as their weaponry. Their Leviathan is a whale airship, and the most masterful beast in the British fleet.
Aleksandar Ferdinand, a Clanker, and Deryn Sharp, a Darwinist, are on opposite sides of the war. But their paths cross in the most unexpected way, taking them both aboard the Leviathan on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure….One that will change both their lives forever.
You can get them on Amazon by like 2019 when translations catch up... If we buy enough books season 2 should be out before the official novels catch up.
Read the light novel (ln). They're the most up to-date version of the story. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0316272248/ref=bseries_primary_1_0316272248/134-899056
Currently there are 11 volumes available on amazon. There are 14 total as of this year. The anime, which I assume is what brought you hear, covered volumes 1-9
I don't know if this helps, but it's available on the UK store of Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Kyoshi-Novels/dp/1419735047/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=rise+of+kyoshi&qid=1592601793&sprefix=rise+of+&sr=8-1
You can buy the EX1 novel from places like Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Re-Starting-Another-World-light/dp/0316412902/
No other Ferris and Crusch side/short stories have been fully translated yet.
Nachdem ich die Anime Adaption gesehen habe, habe ich mir ein Buch geholt, dessen nur eins von vielen, die der Buchserie angehören tut, ist.
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, Vol. 1 (englische Version)
It's alright, I know people who doesn't like my tastes in book covers.
I'm the kind of guy who likes hardcovers, old looking leather spines, embossed arabesque arts etc
Like this:
Sufice to say when I grabbed these my reaction was "eew tacky" hahah
But the read was crazy good for anyone into Star Wars, holy crap. I wish there was a "collector's edition " for these.
Maybe Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld? The airships were alive in this one, but sounds like a similar vibe at least. Don’t remember anything about floating crust, but there were definitely 2 main characters, and someone was British
Kyoshi! Love what they did with her story in the novels. It felt so true to her character. Highly recommend:
>To follow the logical pattern: if we ever see a 'Tales of Kyoshi' I'd expect an R rating...
Well... It ain't no 'R' I can tell you that and is more in line with TLOK (few bouts of shown violence) with Kyoshi being (mostly) a pacifist, so there is that.
I don't even see a paperback option? I didnt even know it had paperback options. I see hardcover, audiobook, and kindle
The hardcover book 1 is also still $20
The light novel Overlord uses a non-standard typeset. You can see a of the first few pages here.
I personally have NO issue whatsoever reading books that have a slightly different font. I think if you're gonna go for a handwritten style, you should do one that only lightly mimics handwriting, just to set a mood, because anything too dramatic will likely result in people dismissing it after a sentence or two because they don't want to have to "adjust" to the typeset.
Have you read the book 'On the way to a smile' it's based on events hust after the game and just before AC. It talks about how both sephiroth and aerith are in the life stream. Sephiroth is trying to get back to the living but aerith is fighting to keep the world safe from the lifestream. You should really read this! Basically explains everything you just said! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1975382358/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_4VK7MT64339WFNE0WYWP
Book 1: Rise of Kyoshi
Book 2: Shadow of Kyoshi
The Kyoshi novels are by far my favorite series in the Avatar universe. Fair warning, they’re pretty dark.
I'd say this takes away from the value. This edition is not rare and is actually still in print. I do not believe there are any significant differences between printings, but someone can correct me if I am wrong.
