Unrelated: If you want elemental check out the YA book Legendborn. The author used very elementally evocative language when describing the main characters emotions. I really loved it.
It's not out yet, but based on your "loved" books you might like Legendborn by Tracy Deonn! It's being compared to City of Bones. I got an ARC and the story was phenomenal - I loved it so much I pre-ordered so I can have a finished copy for my shelf. It's an original take on a king arthur retelling with loads of character growth and a great magic system, and I already can't wait for the second in the series: https://www.amazon.com/Tracy-Deonn/dp/1534441603/
"The Dark Is Rising" Sequence by Susan Cooper. Fantastic Fantasy Series set in the UK - England And Wales, and tied up with Arthurian Legend.
I hear there is a terrible movie version of the first book. I have not watched it because I don't want to ruin a great series I love.
Just thought I'd throw this in, Here Lies Arthur. Its a good read that's not exactly about a trans guy, but is in the vein of ftm. Can't say more without spoiling. If your into fantasy, it's a great retelling of the Arthurian tales with a fun twist. Edited: for Amazon link
I absolutely LOVE the Harry Potter series. And Severus Snape is my favorite character of the lot, so I was definitely teary when I read that part.
Since they never found his body, I choose to believe that a Potions Master would've taken something to allow him to survive somehow, and simply disappeared from the wizarding world after the war. He deserved to have a peaceful life after that.
Edit: I enjoyed the "The Dark is Rising" series.

Ring of Fire is available free on Kindle Unlimited (or for 2.99 for non-subscribers)
Well, I always thought Gerald Morris's Squire's Tale was great as a kid. It puts a spin on the classic King Arther's stories, and there is humor (within the first 5 minutes of reading you get to read about a knight being beaten with a soup pot). So he may enjoy something like that, action and comedy.
Harry Potter?
Also The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper was hugely successful in my home as a kid.
