Exactly what I pictured when reading A Monster Calls.
I don't know how much you pay for the discount hatchets so I can't tell what "cheap" means to you, but the paperbacks of Hatchet are only $5.99 on Amazon.
I always loved the Stargirl cover (and its similar sequel, Love Stargirl). I like bold, simple covers, personally. I also like the newer versions of the Gingerbread series.
F451 is hardly even good. As was said best by Oliver Watson, it hardly seems fair to praise an author for writing a book about how powerful and good and great and wise and important authors and their books are.
I didn't find Brave New World all that depressing. Good, but not depressing. It's hard to explain why without spoiling things, but it comes a lot down to how differently the two books end. Worth a read, though.
edit: If you want something to cheer you up, the linked book is quite enjoyable and short.
This reminded me of the book Happily After All. A young girl is a child of divorce. Her father is awarded sole custody and tells his daughter that her mother doesn't love her, she never calls, never writes, never sends birthday cards.
When she's an adolescent her father dies, and she's sent to live with her mother. That's when she finds out her mother had been calling, sending cards, writing and sending her books for years. The father had always hidden them so the girl wouldn't find out.
I'm glad the story turned out well for you, and I'm sure as hell glad your dad was able to reconnect with his son.
