I bought that book for my mom to read to her first grade students, and the girls love it! There's also this one that's a bit similar but focuses on women in science, and I believe they published one about women athletes this year.
I mean, look at this *garbage*.... who on earth could want children, young girls even, to read this *babysitters club meets robotics club* series... how will this help them get husbands? ...

This book by Prentice and Stuart is a great introduction, it is a little pricey but it was a great investment in my experience.

I got this from my library and actually really enjoyed it, even though it's probably aimed more at teenagers. It focuses on the rivalries and doesn't get super specific about the physics, but they do discuss specific inventions.
