Beyond the Binary might be a good one!
Terrific book about her, written for young readers: Phillip Hoose, Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice
I have a basically brand new copy of Out! How to be your authentic self, by Miles McKenna. I already read it and thought I’d see if anyone here is interested in a copy? Just pay for shipping and it’s yours.
Edit: for the teen boy, you could get him a “starter” drone. The basic drones range from $50-200.
I ended up getting my 11 & 12 yo girl cousins gift cards/money, a hand lettering book and nice pens, photography how-to books (you could find an digital camera if they don’t already have one) and a book. The book links are below because I thought they were pretty cool.

I recently read a book called I Will Always Write Back. It's about a boy living in Zimbabwe (it's a memoir of sorts, about how he was assigned a pen pal living in America, and how his pen pal and him ended up becoming best friends as they wrote to each other), and learning about all of the poverty and corruption in that country has just made me feel horrible about myself. I feel like I don't have an excuse to lie around feeling bad about myself, since I have it so much better than everyone in Zimbabwe.
Have you ever heard of Ashely Rhodes-Courter, or read her book, Three Little Words?
