U absolutely have to try Aer-ki Jyr's Star Force series on KU!
It's one of my all time favorite SciFi series out there. it starts off on present day earth and depicts the rise of star force as an empire through the next 100k years to a galaxy spanning empire. from underdog to topdog in the galaxy while still maintaining tension and progression.
it even roughly follows the same 100 main characters throughout those years so you can get attached and follow em in their progression.
The author has roughly 100 books out by now, so you can get in for the long haul and it only gets better.

Try Star Force. Its an enormously lengthy series about present day humans rediscoveeing the ancient technology of an old empire they were part of.
The old empire is still around but known to be very domineering and unfriendly to defectors so humanity has to rebuild their technology without drawing too much attention at first, or risk annihilation by said empire. Especially seeing as humans were slaves in that empire.
Fair warning, the first couple of books will take place within our solar system and not much alien involvement yet, with a primary focus on the training and discovery of technology by the main characters. I personally love this type of build up, especially if the follow up is there to satisfy the build up.
Perhaps you could write it in an epistolary format.

Granted, this book is science-fiction, but there are certainly ways to write fantasy in a similar fashion.
If you're getting lots of traffic naturally and those that do convert end up loving your work then you have a good problem on your hands IMO. It's much easier to tweak the cover, keywords, categories, and description around if people already love your book.
Check out the listing for Battlefield Earth Alien Invasion:
The description goes in-depth about the book without revealing too much and adds in good customer reviews. Also, like crowqueen mentioned, I think the cover for the book you linked doesn't jump out as a sci-fi book. Lots of people just purchase based on the cover, unfortunately.
I happened to stumble over this on Amazon and thought it might be of at least a little interest.

First, because of the subject and second because this guy apparently self publishes all of those stories.
Might be worth re watching the Issac Arthur video on Oneal Cylinders it's too late to re-watch it for me but I think he does some math on how much space we could populate with a Dyson swarm of habitats a-la Alistair Reynolds Revenger
Do you like music-based magic? How about a fantasy steampunk-ish space opera? The Seeds of Dissolution is now on Pre-Order on Amazon!
On a bright August day, the sun disappears.
Sam van Oen barely escapes freezing to death in his house, as his watch stops and fire ceases to burn. He is pulled into the Nether—a nexus between ten alien cultures—where he meets Rilan and Origon, two maji who can control the musical foundation of the universe. While coping with anxiety attacks prompted by his new surroundings, Sam must learn to hear and change the Symphony, and thus reality, in order to discover what happened to his home.
But more freezing voids like the one that started his journey are appearing, and Sam’s chances of getting back are fading. The Assembly of Species is threatening to dissolve and the maji are being attacked by those they protect, while rumors grow of an ancient, shape-changing species of assassins, returning to wage war.
The Dissolution is coming.
There's an audiobook for a dollar now of the original book, its yuoooge!
Has anyone read Illuminae? It seems like it would be a pretty good book for this sub. I was gonna grab the Kindle version but the physical copy seems the better way to go because of all the pics and charts in the book.
Anyone read it?
Imagine a world where fish could fly.
Come up with your own reason: Air is as thick as water, fish develop gas sacs and can become lighter than air, whatever. Invent your own rational.
Now, in this imaginary world, do fish taste like salmon or chicken?
It's your imaginary world, you get to decide with one it is. You can even write a book about it, call it science fiction, and try to out-sell L. Ron Hubbard's "Battlefield Earth".
That's the cool thing about imaginary worlds - they can be anything you want them to be!
Just don't go around making laws that make sense in your imaginary world, but not in the real world we live in.
