Good place to start would be to get a 55 gallon tank used. People sell them dirt cheap on Facebook market place and whatever all the time. That's a good tank size for now, in years down the road I believe getting an even larger tank might be necessary but that should be good for a a few years. They need uvb lighting and a place to bask in it.

There's other options out there but those are some cheap bulbs that I have used and thought did fine, as well as in my opinion the best looking/ best size and easiest basket spot you can get. You literally just put it on top of the tank and put the heat bulb above it.
Bro this stuff is actually a miracle, it completely destroyed my cyanobacteria problem. Now all if it turned back into regular green algae as god intended.

I used to use the Tiny Friend Farms one, but all the Amazon reviews said they changed their formula and it became too dusty. I don't know if that's true because I switched.
Now I get ZooMed Reptisand: https://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-ReptiSand-Pounds-Desert/dp/B0002DIZKC/
It's actually cheaper per pound as well. Tiny Friends is ~$3.86/pound, and ReptiSand is ~$1.81/pound
That is a great rec, I think you can get a pre-made above tank basking area for $45 on US Amazon
If you go on youtube you can also look up how to DIY one if you're outside the US and it's either too expensive or not available. If you do DIY just be sure to secure any way the turtles could possibly get out, even if it doesn't seem like it should be possible. Some are surprisingly good climbers.
I know it's not always ideal, but if you put co2 on this the grass and moss will go stupid. Fluval makes a nano co2 kit that's super easy and relatively inexpensive. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0049RL3H4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_XGJFT86ZAPX27SZ5MGV1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The puppy is probably stressed and absolutely freaking the hell out. I wouldn’t be leaving him alone if I were you, unless it’s for naps. Does it have toys, food? Do 5 week old puppies even eat solid food yet? That’s crazy. Well, you literally have a canine infant so it’s going to bark, cry and be a small stressed out dog. Maybe try some music, some ppl say it helps. You can also get some toys that help with separation anxiety like this, maybe also read some articles on how to ease separation anxiety. Do you have any friends that have sound knowledge with dogs, or maybe their parents? Not trying to be rude but you sound very young, I would even suggest taking the pupper to the vet to get checked and getting professional advice and help with how to raise the puppy.
It is. It's hard to find online, but Petco and Pet Supplies Plus always seem to have it when I go in person. Its on Amazon, but it's $20 rather than it's typical in store price of like $10.
Here's a link to the exact one I use: Zoo Med ReptiSand, 10 Pounds, Desert White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002DIZKC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_wpGdFbEKGDEBF
Sorry. I was responding to the wrong post. You weren't asking about floraflex, lol.
Here is the ro buddie.
5gal min, 10gal if you want other small fish like Neons(at least 6) or Pygmy Cory cats(at least 6). 50 watt heater(aqueon is fine), Sponge filters are good and cheap, you will need an air pump to power it and they can be noisy. Or a small hang on back(HOB) filter would be great and quiet, this one is excellent but other brands are fine, check the reviews. Real plants are always the best but plastic is okay.
I would agree that he was too young to be taken away from his mother but you just have to work with that now. I would suggest this - https://www.amazon.com/SmartPetLove-Snuggle-Puppy-Behavioral-Brown/dp/B000C9YHFS
It’s a stuffed dog that has a heat pack and has the recording of a heartbeat. Really soothes some puppies, especially the younger ones.
This stuff right here knocked out a persistent blanket of that crap completely in one treatment over a week and a half. Just be sure to add extra aeration such as a bubble stone while the majority of the blue green algae is dying/decomposing as it will raise your co2. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QSK31M/ref=cm_sw_r_sm_apa_fabc_VVTG779YQ3AJERMZNCAJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use Zoo Med Reptisand, which I buy from my local Pet Supplies Plus Store. It's also available on Amazon. Zoo Med brand Reptisand is an all natural terrarium sand with no added dyes/chemicals/calcium. Reptile sand is a great choice for hamster sand baths, but you need to make sure you are only using the calcium-free kind which tends to be less common.
Filter, though I'll take it as a compliment that it blends in that well lol 😄 it's an Aquaclear 20, bought on Amazon. I'd highly recommend it 👍

I used this - one treatment and it was all gone quickly. I put it in a tank with 3 fish, shrimp, and a snail and didn't seem to phase any of them. It's not an antibiotic so it didn't mess with my ammonia/nitrogen cycle either. The reviews are mixed. I put in slightly less than the directions called for, mixed with tank water first until completely dissolved, and then put it in near the filter outflow. Worked great and no harm done. I did a big water change 2 days later and put carbon in the filter for 24 hours. Like I said, though, the reviews are mixed.

My puppy did that and I kid you not I looked up separation anxiety on Amazon and came across this thing called a snuggle puppy, reviews were amazing, I reluctantly tried it. The first night I had it she slept the entire night through for about 9 hours. She was only 7 weeks old too. Here's a 50 gallon/day RO unit for about $65. Smallest one I could find on Amazon. I have not yet purchased or tested this unit, but plan to.
The trough was about 60 - https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rubbermaid-structural-foam-stock-tanks-50-gal-capacity
I used probably one 50lb bag of peat moss from home depot (20 maybe? I don't really remember how much) plus some left over peralite I had. The terracotta pot was also just laying around.
What you can't see but I very quickly figured out I needed was an RO filter with the 100 degree days we're getting. That was another $50 of amazon. Aquatic Life RO Buddie Three Stage Reverse Osmosis, 50-Gallon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DOG63OY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_pLpXqAIkA58Rx
So probably 150ish total.
Then it was likely just widely different water parameters. Anyways if you want to seed ammonia I recommend this 6$ thing off amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006MP4QG6/ . Yeah it's a smallish container compared to what you can buy in stores, but finding straight ammonia is pretty hard. (Alot of them have soap and crap in them). This stuff works pretty good for seeding it. Im currently cycling two 10g with it right now.
Also throwing fish in to seed ammonia is being impatient lol. You're risking fish for the benefit of not having to wait 3-6 weeks.
If you're ordering off amazon, I would just get Dr. Tim's ammonia because you'll know for sure that it's safe.
Plants will also absorb ammonia, so they will compete with the nitrifying bacteria for food. If you have a ton of plants, you'll want to keep a close watch on the ammonia concentration.
You can get the reptisand on amazon. They have a 10lb bag. That’s how I get mine regularly since it’s cheaper than the pet store here.
I may have the fluval version sitting around. If you would pay shipping I don't mind sending it.
Fluval Mini Pressurized 20g-CO2 Kit - 0.7 ounces https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0049RL3H4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Qu8RBbVNPRQVD
If it traps bubbles it's cyanobacteria. In freshwater tanks it's more commonly known as blue green aglae.
This product will get rid of it fast:
https://www.amazon.com/Ultralife-Green-Slime-Stain-Remover/dp/B000QSK31M
There are a few different ways. The big thing is getting a nice dose of ammonia in there. I struggled with cycling my tank at first too. I tried fish food. Nope. Guppies. Nope. Finally bought aquarium ammonia (Dr. Tim’s Aquatics Ammonium... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006MP4QG6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and that did the trick! Once I added that, things took off much better!
So dose the water with that and give it a few days. Watch your ammonia and nitrite levels because eventually ammonia will start to drop but nitrite will go up. This is a good thing! Then your nitrites will start to drop and your nitrates will go up. You’ll want to do a 25% water change at the point when your nitrates get high. Then add more ammonia.
Keep doing this process over a period of a few weeks. The goal is for the ammonia to be turned to nitrite and then to nitrate in 24 hours.
Do you have a good water test kit? Not strips but the little test tubes that you mix? This one is great. API FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT 800-Test Freshwater Aquarium Water Master Test Kit, White, Single https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000255NCI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_TRNRFSZMJXSPK85G8VGK
Not my idea but thanks! It comes from Gary Lange, the worlds renowned Rainbow breeder.
Don't worry about messing with the cycle in your 30! You should clean your sponges in the filters regularly, so just think of this as a good cleaning. No need to clean the bio media, and there are tons of bacteria living on the glass, substrate, plants, fish, etc!
Food is a so-so way of dosing the ammonia. I'd recommend Dr Tims Ammonia, its a very easy and precise way to dose the tank with ammonia. I think you can get it in 1 day with amazon prime. amazon prime has a free 30 day trial, and you can keep using it repeatedly with new emails... shhhh ;)
If you have spiked nitrites and 0 ammonia, you may want to consider doing a water change in there. Nitrite over 5ppm is known to stall the cycle, and the 0 ammonia means your newly formed ammonia-eating bacteria (nitrsomonas) have no food. Here is a good guide on cycling your tank, but you probably won't need to do anything if you seed the tank with dirty water from the 30!
AquaClear Hagen Power Filter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000260FVG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_QM5PR7AZ22F2GQNDD7ND get this instead. You wont have to worry about buying replacement cartridges anymore
I recommend this for your tank. Fill the water up to the line on the ramp. If that's a 55 gallon, around 12 inches wide, this can sit directly on top.
Children's play sand or reptile sand will do just fine! (You can find this at hardware stores) There are videos on sanitizing play sand for hamsters on youtube.
Just make sure whatever you buy doesn't have dust and check the reviews to see if others have used it with their own hamsters.
If you don’t want to sanitize and don’t mind spending a little extra, reptisand works well. But it has to be that brand, others have calcium added
There’s actually a brand of sand you don’t have to bake (: it’s called Reptisand is usually used for lizards and such but is safe for hamsters! You can buy it here
I have to clean my planted tank twice a week because there can be so much dead plant matter on the substrate if I don’t.
i love this [filter](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VEWCMO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_nVSUFbNCBASQF[filter](htt)! Make sure to buy some ceramics to enhance bio media they are really helpful.
I have a sword, a Java fern, and red root floaters. They haven’t died on me yet and I am a total noob. :)
The sand should be fine, but if the jewels are sharp they may cut Jet’s fins and then lead to fin rot so double check!
I just searched up driftwood on Amazon and looked through the reviews to find the best one and mine is beautiful and doesn’t give me any problems.
