This is what we use. Haven't had any issues with them coming loose.
Having extended mirrors makes changing lanes easier and safer. I use:

These work perfect on the FJ. Went through this same search a few months ago. They are perfect and cheap.
These worked well on a 2010 Expedition. Pretty solid grip and could take them on/off quickly.

Tow-coma club checking in.
How do you like those mirrors? I have been using these: https://www.amazon.com/CIPA-11950-Universal-Towing-Mirror/dp/B00029WRKA
..and they are ok, but they vibrate quite a bit. Looking for a better solution that doesn't involve replacing the OEM mirrors completely.
On a related note I'm thinking about these side view extenders. I think they're more likely to cover something are they okay?

I don't know if this is helpful to you, but I tow a 24' travel trailer and 19' boat with my 2017 F150 SCREW cab, and found these ZAP Tow Mirrors do a really nice job of getting me the visibility I needed.

This is definitely not as nice or comprehensive of a solution as better permanent mirrors, but they work and fit great.
There are two removable styles

Have you considered strap on tow mirrors?
I don’t have any experience with them, but was just towing a fair amount this last weekend in a rented truck and I couldn’t imagine not being able to see.
Sorry to be so annoying but what about this?!: https://www.amazon.com/CIPA-11950-Universal-Towing-Mirror/dp/B00029WRKA/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=mirror+temporary&qid=1605654123&sr=8-4
I bought a cheap pair off of Amazon and they are ok but not great I am probably going to get the oem replacement mirrors in a few months but they are a little pricy.
I used these for several years. CIPA 11950 Universal Clip-On Towing Mirror https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00029WRKA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WHMKFb13985CH mirrors
I bought these since I didnt want to spend the money and quite honestly.. They arent too bad. Once you set the mirrors and tighten them up so they don't move, they add the angle to see behind your camper. Definitely helped with lane changes on my 1800 mile trip two werks ago: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DNPD514?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They are flush with the mirror, however some people have had to put spray foam or a sponge in the little black seal part that rests up against the door as there was some space. The amazon link below is pretty similar to what I got if you needed reviews:
Yeah, I was looking on Amazon and the ones I saw looked really sketchy. Is this similar to what you had? This kind of clamp looks like it might just fly off at speed.
Hey,
Not OP, but I bought these and they're amazing so far. Still need to go on a full road trip with them. From the picture in the amazon link, they fit on the lower part of the mirror and have a nice rubber pads. They dont strap on like OP's mirros and they're very study and do not wiggle around while driving.

Not as nice as your option, but much cheaper and they work great; no paint contact either.
