Is this the part you used? Seems fine, though I would prefer OEM. Thanks for the tip, I saw the two screws connecting the rubber but all the other older gens seem to require you going through the back of the hatch to fix it, this seems way easier. Plus I need a 90 degree screwdriver anyways...
It’s pretty much something like this:
McGard 76029 Tailgate Lock, Black https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0043SCBD4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HAM9TGTS5HGNF9D61XA9
I initially had it on mine but decided to remove it because if I really want it I can add it on later with ease. You can also use a hose clap to the same effect.
All Mavericks some with a keyed tailgate to lock it in the closed position. I believe the xlt and above can are powered so you can do it without the key also.

10 bucks + whatever time it takes you to replace it, if your not inclined to do it yourself buy it and take it to a shop shouldn't take them more than 20 min to install so labor will be cheap.
I was just going to grab these on Amazon because they were cheap. The weather here has been super nasty so I won’t be able to make it to a junk yard for a little while. I do need to go for some other things though. Thanks for the help!

There are some other kits on Amazon that come with right angle screw driver and some with scrapers. Depending on what you have on hand those might be worth looking at.

This is what I used when I wanted this feature.
The grill and cowl are painted oem trd pro parts from sparks. Not cheap, but quality Toyota parts. You can get aftermarket ones for cheaper, but there's a long wait.
The tailgate lock you can get on Amazon. I got this one, TOYOTA Genuine 2019 & Up Tundra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XSD61XN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share but I think there are cheaper aftermarket versions of that too.
POP & LOCK - Power Tailgate Lock for 2016-2021 Toyota Tacoma and 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra, PL8547HD (for Tailgate with OEM Lock) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LST3022/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_BV1JFYGWBED9TJQZZ7KX
Sorry I lied it’s $140. But it was easy to install and saves me the headache of taking my key out of the fob every damn time I wanted to open the tailgate. How has Toyota not made this standard?!
06 mirror swap is exactly what I was gonna say. Super easy and makes a big difference in visibility. Bluetooth head unit is another must-have for me. Would've gone with Android Auto if my 93 had space for a double din.
Get something like this to deter potential tailgate thieves.
Super bright LED reverse bulbs are another swap I do on every vehicle I buy. Previous owner already did it on my truck, it's actually what prompted me to start doing that.
Spray-in bed liner is another recommendation. My truck also has a toolbox which is a must for a single cab but you probably don't need it with the extended cab.
Headache rack for lumber is another big favorite of my truck, but I don't know what you'll be using yours for.
Other than that I also have some LED fog lights and a radar backup sensor. Neither are really necessary but both are nice to have.
Order a pop lock from amazon. Then it locks when you lock the truck.
Pop & Lock PL8120Q Power Tailgate Lock for Chevy/GMC (New Body) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00439SW22/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_F6t1AbVFFGVTH
I got it on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H8BU5Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rCUDDbW7EKXKJ
It's an ok lock. With my bed cover it really just prevents crimes of convenience. I'm actually thinking I'll just replace the handle with another plastic one, since a metal handle might break the lock if someone got enough leverage
Make sure the issue isn't a missing/broken plastic bushing where the tailgate locks in. If it doesn't think the tailgate is closed, the motor will not work as it runs through the lock. You can test by closing the left latch by hand and see if the motor starts working while the tailgate is open. I've had to do this on a 94 and a 95 when I thought the motor was dead, but was just the bushing missing.
It may be as simple as changing these out: https://smile.amazon.com/Dorman-38424-Tailgate-Liftgate-Assortment/dp/B000COCRHI?sa-no-redirect=1
So I couldn't add anymore pics on the same post but got the stock Toyota lock from amazon and everything is plug and play, no drilling and cutting, just had to remove the gate's screws and tie strapped the harness.

Oh also, the gate bushings are the same as the truck gate and were included in the Help! pack that I bought.
Dorman 38424 Tailgate/Liftgate Striker Bushing Assortment, 4 Piece https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000COCRHI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dAA-CbKT3KPM4
they make one, but it is about $300.
edit: or you can just buy the latch add your own camera/
I got the pop lock. Pop & Lock PL2310 Black Manual Tailgate Lock for Mazda/Ford (Works only with factory plastic handle) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H8BU5Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_x8U6wbMCK5V3A
It wasn't that expensive when I got it. But it works fine.
>Because I have so many tools, straps, hitches etc in the back of my truck
As many often say, when you carry stuff in your truck, your securing methods are only keeping a good man honest. If they really want your stuff - they will get it.
To the best of my knowledge, nobody seems to be offering a FOB tailgate lock. However, there are a few aftermarket locking kits that are pretty easy to install. I bought a manual lock for my tailgate, but just to the tailgate doesn't get stolen.
