The gps things you put on your keys are wonderful for this. They run for like 20-25 bucks. If you are really serious there are magnet mounted gps for the car or one of these that you plug right into the car and they show live feed exactly where the car is or been. Remember to move in silent because in the future this will be useful in court. At this point assume the worst and dont let emotions determine your future in a negative way. Wish you the best.
This is the one that I got
But I bought a refurbished one. It works pretty good. It bluetooth connects to your phone to get calls, texts, and updates road conditions. You don't have to use the bluetooth, but you do lose out on road conditions. It also has an option for elogs, but I'm not sure how well it works because I'm not owner op. Another cool thing about it is that there's also an option for cars. So you can use it for whatever you have.
This one, though I'm not sure if they make it anymore as it doesn't seem to be in stock on Amazon? Too bad, it's a great unit!
Not necessarily true. We purchased this device a few years ago to keep track of my aging grandmother and we can see her location live

Stock mount is pretty good, use the tether just in case. If it falls off then think about something like this: Garmin
You’re right. They are significantly more.
You get what you pay for still holds true even in this day and age.
He only saved $400 on a GPS only to spend $10k in repairs and damage.
If the camera is set to record the dash display they'd have a hard time disputing that. Or one like this one, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008EPWWF4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_g-Movb0TK7T37, which uses GPS for speed.
You can get a refurbished rand mcnally for cheap($169.99)
I have the same model in the link and would get the same one again.
That being said, not all dashcams arbitrarily display the speed. Some (like mine) simply record to a normal video file with just a date and time stamp, but you can still get the speed info using their separate software.
