For anyone that’s interested in these kinds of things, I highly recommend the book A Feast of Ice and Fire, which is an officially licensed cookbook featuring meals right out of the books.
And if she’s up for something different I highly recommend the game of thrones cookbook, A A Feast of Ice and Fire , There is a blog too , so you don’t need to invest. I love the cookbook and trying out the medieval recipes vs the modern versions. It’s fun and gives perspective on how food and cooking/baking has changed.
And if you pm me an amazon wishlist link I would more than happily gift it (that’s how much fun I find this book).
Also, I’m glad you made caring for yourself a priority it’s a great example for the kids. When they see you making self care a priority they will too. ❤️❤️❤️

Essays on every episode, interviews with David Chase (1 per season), very insightful and added a lot of behind the scenes stuff.
For example, David Chase confirms that Ralphie did start the fire, and the shot of the goat was meant to symbolize Ralphie as the devil who caused it.
Looks like it's up for pre-order on Amazon. It's being released January 23, 2018.
As a fat guy who loves food, I've always loved his food-porn. Not just because I love descriptions of food, but because I really am able to immerse myself in the scene. Smell and taste are some of the most memory-triggering senses we have, and it puts you right there with the character.
However, you are absolutely right that he's using this as a way to convey the class divisions and the hardship of war, and it's not something that is often brought up.
Also, if anyone doesn't know about it, I highly recommend the Official Games of Thrones Cookbook. It's got excellent, real medieval recipes based on the food in the book:(https://www.amazon.com/Feast-Ice-Fire-Official-Companion/dp/0345534492)
Once you have finished watching through, and have fallen in love with this show (and you will), you need to buy the 'Go Team Venture!' book to accompany your rewatch.
You can thank me later

Is anyone here a Venture Bros fan? I find myself with two copies of the Go Team Venture! art book and I don't need both. It goes for about $27 on Amazon, I'm happy to let the shrink wrapped copy I have go for $20.
Thel English release is on Nov 9th. But its been out in Japan for a few years now and I believe it's been translated into German and French.
Hmmm, not quite video game, but here's a Game of Thrones one.
As far as others go, I keep hearing Salt Fat Acid Heatis a good beginner cookbook, though I haven't tried it yet.

I've got this official (? I think it is) cookbook amazon link. There are quite a few recipes that would be alright for keto.
There's an ASOIAF cookbook that's pretty much the same idea. Lots of good recipes, and most of them have historically accurate and modern versions.

The people who wrote it also have a website that's regularly updated with new recipes and such. http://www.innatthecrossroads.com/
I am proud of you, too. Thank you for your comment. I see you, and I recognize you.
We are not alone (unfortunately). Researchers have apparently caught sight of us. Due to the stigma around it, survivors of MDSA (Mother-Daughter sexual abuse) are using Reddit to share their stories. And the actress Jennette McCurdy (who I had never heard of before) recently published her memoir about her experience with MDSA. I haven't been able to read the book, but I'm glad someone with her sort of visibility is telling our story. She is incredibly brave.
I was also diagnosed with CPTSD. At its most extreme, I couldn't leave the house or sleep. But time helps the most. The nightmares were terrible, but they are less frequent now. I promise it gets better. Something that helped with the sexual stimulation was watching the Tantric Sex episode of the series Unwell (it's on Netflix). A tantric sex guru talks about healing from sexual abuse, and it was the first time I felt some acceptance for that aspect of my experience. The feelings come and go. There was a time I thought that they were gone completely, but I suspect they will always be with me to some degree. And in that case, all that is required of me (and perhaps of you, too) is acceptance.
The rage is still with me. What has helped there is 1) not drinking and 2) strength training. Also, remembering times when I had control (when I frightened my mother with my insight, for example) and replaying/strengthening those memories has helped with the feeling of helplessness (the foundation of the rage, I think).
I hope something that I mentioned ^ above helps. We are warriors. A strange kind of family. Whatever healing looks like for you, I wish you the best of luck.
I would heartily recommend Jenette McCurdy's memoir I'm Glad My Mom Died. I grew up in a country where The Disney Channel wasn't really a thing, but having moved to N America realize how prolific a role it played in a lot of kid's lives so was interested to read it. It's a horrendous but deeply engaging about being a child actor on Disney shows. I thoroughly recommend it.
I listened to a few episodes and the bullshit/good content ratio was too high for it to be worth my time.
Do yourself a favor and read The Sopranos Sessions instead.
What bastards! I wonder where they learned such despicable behavior: https://www.amazon.com/CIA-Hollywood-Agency-Shapes-Television/dp/0292754361
Relevant: I'm Glad My Mom Died.
The Go Team Venture Art/Interview book includes the original pitch book, which is where the early Molotov image in the title sequence comes from.
Then Hammer/Publick talk about creating the title sequence on pages 30-31. Basically, they forgot about it and forgot to budget for it. So most of the drawings came from Publick, and Hammer put the sequence together in After Effects. Publick says they were trying to make a "James Bond" effect with the iconography.
This specific drawing isn't referenced, so the descriptions in this thread of "generic frogman a la Johnny Quest credits" is most likely correct.

The author very much examines the show in the way you are referring, even doing an episode-by-episode breakdown.
Hell, a couple of economists have already done that work and published books about it.
Of course some of scifi has come true but we’re not talking about that, we’re talking about CERN i.e. god particles/parallel universes.
“SciFi” BY DESIGN conditions us to believe in science, to have faith in Man’s ability to dominate nature , really that’s the end of story.
As an aside, GPS was first launched in 1978. Governments created the internet - hardly a stretch that Ghost in the Shell movie from 1995 featured GPS navigation on a map. LOL
Black Mirror is produced by the CIA. It isn’t as though the show is “hitting the nail on the head of upcoming reality,” it’s literally scripted from the government… I mean, come on. https://www.amazon.com/CIA-Hollywood-Agency-Shapes-Television/dp/0292754361/ref=nodl_?dplnkId=a541c0c1-f18d-47f9-abad-d388c25aa10e
>I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes reality
Nor would I, but that doesn’t mean I don’t see it for what it is - which is, it doesn’t matter if it becomes reality or if it doesn’t, as long as WE think that it CAN become reality. That’s how magic works.
My friend bought me this for my birthday. I haven't looked through it fully..but it has a bunch of the meals that Sanji typically cooks for the crew, as well as other meals!
Here's a link to the cookbook we used. It's really hard to find but I would definitely recommend.
We have the cookbook, and it's awesome - the sister's stew, lemon cakes, and bacon wrapped trout are some of our favorites. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0345534492/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_CTW63T8VZKGTGG4DQ2CK
Good for you to have a friend group that realizes what Barney is. Unfortunately a lot of people don't. I mean you can buy his playbook on amazon. It's got 4.8/5 with over 2,500 ratings.
Agreed though, that they are all pretty toxic. A lot of sitcom characters from that time are.
He was extremely rich, charismatic as hell, a social genius and cham-a-leon, a social genius and total cham-a-leon, and – most importantly – always wore a suit. He put a ton of time and effort into his schemes, and wrote this.
This book isn't bad if you want to see how Star Trek's vision of society and real-world economic theory interacts:
