Obligatory The Churn recommendation. It's a novella focused on this character's backstory. It's all set well before the TV series and the full-length novels, so you can go into it having read nothing else.
The art is fantastic, but a lot of the art book is redundant with the DnD book. Most importantly is has sections in each of the new guild legends and a brief summary of the current story as it’s told through the story spotlight cards.

What you're describing is the beginning to the book Manna: Two Visions of Humanity's Future. It's a short read, and the tl;dr is that unfettered automation will fuck over mankind if we don't decide early on to make it serve to benefit mankind as a whole. That means completely and utterly rejecting capitalism and the entire foundation of modern economics. It's a very interesting concept and the book itself is a good read.

It’s THE COLLAPSE, Book 0 in my series, and the sequel (Book 1) will be out this summer, which is set 10 years later and will showcase how society and humanity has coped and adapted to the infected.
Only Book 0 is out at the moment, which is the story of the outbreak: THE COLLAPSE.
It’s sequel, however, goes more into what you’re talking about above as it’s set 10 years later, so society is rebuilding, and humans have a better understanding of what they’re dealing with, hence the knowledge of the two strains of viruses and the different infected either creates, along with how to handle them.
The sequel is coming out this summer.
