I was running a uv5r with stock antenna. It was then running through this mic and I was running an aux cable from that mic to my walker razor slims.

When I had the aux plugged into my walker slims it greatly reduced active listening from the headphones to the point where you couldn't hear what you needed to hear. There was so much blank fire and airsoft grenades with volume levels similar to a 9mm or .223 that I couldnt go without the earpro and instead gave up the comms. Even when it was "working" but messing up my situational awareness I was still having issues transmitting and receiving.

I'm going to go with whatever that veteran player suggests. He is using the "earmor" headset. I tried his on and the active listening mics on them are much better than my walker slims and the boom mic can be right or left handed, and as a southpaw that's important to me. Another one was running either comtacs or sordins, so I might go that way, I'm not 100% sure yet.

I will likely need to swap the antenna, and/or move to a better radio for the transmission distance issue.
According to a Co at my store, earpieces can't be ordered anymore.. could just be us, one of our assistants would order 20 of them every month.. and then forget where she hid them..
SM had a Co order a bunch of them off Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012J1CLVS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1), your store might need to do the same thing.

Got these before going to pocono and worked like a dream, though I didn’t make much use of the microphone as my buddy only had headphones, and no mic but they worked about as good as I could ask
I use this: BTECH QHM22 Platinum Series IP54 Rainproof Shoulder Speaker Mic for BaoFeng, BTECH, Kenwood Radios https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z4X3MM6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gjhjFbYHBG6P7
Howard Leight by Honeywell Impact Sport Sound Amplification Electronic Shooting Earmuff https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001T7QJ9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DkhjFbWBC6H7F And then run the sound to my headset

get the M. That's what im using before with all of my IEM. It gives better clarity and sound stage. Also, I happen to feel uncomfortable with stock tips. This JVC is super comfortable.
I'm not sure what you're working with here? What radio are you hooking up to and what headset are you connecting to said radio. OP was using a UV-5r to MSA Sordins with a 3.5mm Aux jack connection on them.
My cheap/simple baofeng solution was the 8 dollar speaker/mic to act as the PTT and microphone with a 3.5mm speaker aux cable connected between it and the headset for audio output. It's not ideal but it's cheap... and IMO it's not worth spending any real money on a dedicated PTT setup for a cheap-o Baofeng.
This is also a possibility. I have never used this kit, so I cannot personally vouch for it. But the concept is sound and for $60 you get a PTT and all the cords you need.

The PTT will be a reproduction, but will function. I've got several amazon PTTs and they're nothing special, but they work.

If you want to buy one yourself there’s lots of options on Amazon. But I suggest talking with your store as it’s easy to order. Most people have a g hook but anything you find with a 2.5/3.5 mm Jack will work with our radios.
Here's the HL boom mic for anybody interested https://www.amazon.com/Connector-Earmuffs-Convert-Communicated-Headset/dp/B09T6G3JJ3 more options if you Google it, I haven't tried any of these yet but it's on the to do list.
As an alternative to this. You can use the mic below and the provided aux cable to run comms through your head set. Just press the mic to talk.
Invest in one of these. Trust me it’s a game changer.
Do the Walker's accept a 3.5mm audio connector? I looked on their website but their listed specs are useless.
I have a set of Howard Leight Impact Sports and I bought this Y cable connector. I experimented with a few different configurations and this one provided me with exactly what I wanted.
Something like this.
Rugged Radios H41-CF Carbon Fiber Behind The Head Two Way Radio Headset with Volume Control Knob and 3.5mm Input Jack for Music / MP3 Players https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0147PVPAW/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_TZ7DDZDPNZYYGX13ZYP6
You will still need the AD-1-iC from heil..Heil. I haven't found a cheaper adapter for the 8pin icons. But you can plug any 3.5mm headset into this.
> more options for accessories like shoulder mics
There are plenty of accessory options for the UV-5R, like shoulder mics and even PTTs for Comtacs. Definitely won't argue the other points: my UV-5R is more of a squad radio and have yet to expose it to the snow, so we'll see how that goes this winter.
Hello everyone
I’m looking for an audio interrupt solution using a handheld microphone like this one
My sound system where I’d be using this (car, home speakers, etc.) has an aux port. I want to be able to play music from another device using an aux port (like my phone) but when I engage the talk button on the mic the music will either cut out or play at a lower volume until I disengage the talk button on the mic.
I’m looking for a standalone solution even if I need to spend time setting it up or tuning it.
And I’m really hoping I can do this in one action as well. I know I could get an aux splitter and hit a button to switch from music to mic, or a tuner/combiner and then turn some knobs before speaking. But ideally I would just hit the one button on the mic and the rest happens on its own.
Reason why I ask here is because I’m not familiar with a lot of audio equipment and terminology. I’m hoping someone has some ideas for a solution that will do exactly what I need, or at the very least point me in the right direction so I can learn how to find this on my own.
Thanks for reading!
Our solution is using a vocopro silent PA transmitter with multiple receivers from B&H then use cheap ear pieces like this: MaximalPower RHF 617-1N 3.5mm RECEIVER/LISTEN ONLY Surveillance Headset Earpiece with Clear Acoustic Coil Tube Earbud Audio Kit For Two-Way Radios, Transceivers and Radio Speaker Mics Jacks , Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0062FZ32C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_V2Z7FJNG768BP4BSAWC8
Everyone in studio can hear the same mix. Our remote guests each get a mix minus return so they don’t hear themselves on delay.
Very straightforward and each audio feed can be adjusted as needed. Audio is run through our audio mixer - we now use a Yamaha but previously used the zoom livetrak.
Get a scanner, just a scanner if you can. As I mentioned in a reply, there are radios out there that will work but it becomes a legal gray area. We were just looking at getting some of the rugged radio headsets, replacing our worn RE headsets (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0147PVPAW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_3WQT8S3E8VKW0XF6VBXZ)
We use the Baofeng UV-5RA as a 2-way and a older radio shack scanner for MRN.
You could do a trucker style mic with an aux cable coming out of it into your earpro. I think my friend uses this with an aux cable to connect to his earpro and it works pretty well. The mic picks him pretty well without needing to put his mouth right next to it.
If you want a boom mic specifically a quick search showed this which might work
Otherwise, if you want a mic built in to your earpro, you'll need to buy something like Comtacs.
My etl uses something like this
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00JGNGQTQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_MVoMFb28V40WB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It is something that is probably store-specific if they let you or not, but they probably wont care.
The walkies we use have the two-prong plug-in pictured in the link, so pretty much any one you use will work. Our store has these Motorola brand ones we can use if we want:
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07G2VKQGR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_q3oMFbECMBENN
Happy shopping!
EDIT: I think we just got some more in recently that may still be in the box so I may be able to GoCart number if I can find where they went.
Get a cheap one off Amazon and call it a day. You’re going to break it. You’re going to lose it. You’re going to get ear gunk stuck in it. Get a $10 one and don’t listen to anyone who says you need a $150 custom molded blah blah blah. THIS is what I use personally and have no issues other than you have to clean moisture out from time to time so it doesn’t sound muffled.
Pro tip: if your like me and think using communal earpieces is fucking disgusting and or annoying as fuck to have to give them your keys/ID you can purchase your own on amazon for less than 20 bucks. Motorola HKLN4604 HKLN4604A... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012J1CLVS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I use something similar to that, just with a different branding, and it seems ok. I don't have that plate carrier so I cant help you with that though. That speaker mic is a bit chunky though. This https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Reinforced-Arcshell-Shoulder-Microphone/dp/B01N5LJ0YR/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=commountain&qid=1599458064&sr=8-1 would proably be a better choice.

I'm pretty sure this is the one I have. Maybe my Mazda3 is noisy, but I can't hear anything on the road. It works great on my desk.
I have used this hand mic mobile and it got PLENTY loud enough for me. If you need a 3.5mm jack, it also has that built in and I guess you could route the cable down but I don't think you'd need to.

It also sounds very clean on DMR, tested on my GD-77 and MD-380.
Dear Pi-people,
I want to make wall mounted phones and hang them throughout the city. You can leave voicemails or talk 1-0-1 if someone is on the other line. It will be a closed network of about 10 units.
Your advice on mic/telephone: i think the shoulder mics are really cool for this project. But i have no clue how to connect it to the pi. Will an usb soundcard be ok? I don’t know if these 2 pin connectors on the shoulder mics fit the standard usb cards.
Furthermore I don’t know if the PTT (push to talk) will still function or how to make that interact with the pi; recognising when mic is on or off (maybe sound levels?).
Second option would be to attach a “retro” phone. Anyone have any experience/ suggestions? Regarding software as well (Is Asterisk a solution or Mumble + voicerecord for voicemail?)
Thanks in advance!
in better news, I tried https://www.amazon.com/VICTOR-JVC-EP-FX9M-B-Spiral-Earpiece/dp/B00JSLXNOC after the comply disappointment, and the spiral dots are basically perfect. they were still a bit of a pain to install, but once I got them on, they made isine sound the best I've heard them. I'm very happy with isine now.
i just picked up some spiral dots. they fit on the earbud pretty well, and both sound and feel better than the stock tips imo.
i linked to the medium ones, which are about the same size as medium comply's. i believe there are also S, SM, ML, and L sizes.
That's similar to what I use. I use a Retevis PTT (Which is shit) and Howard Leight Impact Sports. Works pretty well for the price. A nice Code Red PTT would be great.
