Search for mushroom growing kit on Amazon. There are a bunch of them. I gave one to my Secret Santa and they loved it!
The visible mushroom part doesn't live so long on most species so they wouldn't be great decoration. But you can get these very cool little foam things that grow mushrooms on them! I had this one and it was great https://www.amazon.com/Back-Roots-Mushroom-Mushrooms-Gardening/dp/B00TUYGRU4/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=mushroom+log&qid=1606877306&s=grocery&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzVUFENDdFVVZOVks4JmVuY3...
I'm using this kit from amazon.
It's really easy and I'd recommend it! Just follow the instructions :)
The first attempt turned out great and I'm hoping the second flush is just as successful.
I'm hoping to learn how to cultivate diff types of edible mushrooms. I just really love mushrooms haha.
I've had by far the best luck going to my local tractor supply and grocery stores. Grocery store usually has a few packs of ball jars we can pick up. Our local tractor supply or hardware stores have seeds, even if they're not the fancy Baker Creek varieties.
Also, Amazon! I bought an heirloom seed variety pack for like 25 bucks. It's still in stock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017YET9K6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Haven't sprouted any of the seeds yet but seems like a good enough deal.
I bought this kit on amazon. It didn't fruit for about a month. I got to the point where I almost gave up on them, but one morning I saw the little sprouts.
Excuse me if I sound ignorant, I'm just starting out. This is my first time growing anything, really. These are from a kit I bought so that I can make sure I can grow the simplest thing without horrible things happening. The kit I bought is this one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0189JPZL2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I don't even know how to go about sending you something like that, something like a spore print through the mail or what?
Off Amazon they are pre-done sterilized and ready to inject. Here is the link to it. The price wasnt too bad and I realize I suck at making my own BRF tek so this works for me lol
Sterilized Rye Berry Mushroom Substrate With Self Healing Injection Port (1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CWHYKT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_qfFSDbZTN1RW7
This is a fantastic hobby for kiddos! But since this is probably the worst state in the country for anyone to pursue this hobby, if you wanna see if fungi/mushrooms spark his interest I recommend trying one of these out. These little kits are so much fun I've bought 5 diff kinds at this point and learned how to exploit them for multiple harvests. And if there's anyone in the fam who enjoys eating mushrooms, the harvests are great in ramens and stir frys.
Also yes I reeeeally do need to get a better camera and learn all it's fancy tricks for this hobby. Or at least something better than the HDR setting on my phone.
And thanks for the well wishes. I really did have a great time and appreciate how awesome the community has been about helping out and supporting the need for a break. Y'all are the best.
Growing and eating gourmet mushrooms.
It's easy to start growing your own gourmet mushrooms such as oysters or Lion's Man by purchasing something like a mushroom grow box, $15 US. This will yield half a pound to a pound of tasty mushrooms!
If you end up enjoying the grow process and mushroom flavors, there's a whole new world awaiting you around growing and eating or even selling gourmet mushrooms.
In the colder months I try to seal my grow room up as much as possible to prevent heat loss and cold air infiltration and I've been a little concerned that this might cause CO2 levels to drop enough to have an effect on yield.
Like you, I'd thought of composting. It seems like if you compost the same weight of biomass as the amount of mass you expect your plants to grow it should equal out. I'm hesitant to try though as I believe in a sealed environment the odor from the compost would be strong enough to taint the flavor of the cannabis flowers. I'd also thought of buying some mushroom kits for this purpose, but I don't know if and how bad those might smell.
I haven't tried anything yet and don't have any answers for you. I'm just sharing some thoughts I had along those lines.
So I received an oyster bag kit as a gift. Since I wanted to build a mono tub, I thought this would be good motivation to do some experimenting, practice and get my tubs built.
According to the instructions on the oyster kit, I soaked the mycelium cake in water overnight and then broke it up into substrate (CVG) and put it into a mono tub.
The instructions on the kit suggesting watering the kit directly daily, so I started by direct misting but after lots of reading, I switched to only misting the sides of the tub and fanning a few times a day. I started seeing pooling and there was a slight orange/yellow color which in another sub someone referred to as mycelium piss (?).
Pinning and growth started a couple of weeks ago. I have been fanning and misting multiple times a day. I flipped the lid and i swear I saw growth that same day. I had them sitting in a room that had a lot of sunlight, and I moved them to a darker space a few days ago with minimal light. I noticed more pins popping up this morning. So things are happening in there, just not what I read about most oyster grows - apparently they grow fast and large!
I'm not too worried if I have to dump these guys. I could actually use the tub for a future grow. But, I wondered if there was anything I could do to salvage these guys.
Thanks in advance!
I got this kit from Amazon and was pleased (mostly) with it. 16,500 Non GMO Heirloom Vegetable Seeds Survival Garden 40 Variety Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017YET9K6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6WNQPY5MTWYCT502B0GJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Back to the roots kits are simple and easy. Amazon has one on sale for $13. That is how I got started. You of course can go bigger or better, but starting small is often the best way.

I read it’s not illegal to possess spores, but also read it can be difficult to grow safely (without unhealthy mold etc)
I have 2 small kids who have the magical ability to unlock any door and get into only the things i dont want them to get into lol.
If there’s a “shrooms growing kit for beginners” that makes this easy and safe, i’d love to give it a shot!
I’ve done this with my kids and it was awesome. Can the shrooms you guys are talking about be grown as easily as this? (I hope yes! And i hope it’s ok to share amazon link)

Hell yeah man I promise it’s super easy with these kits and you can do it in your home like I did. This is from Back to the Roots and came within about a week. Pre-colonized and ready to fruit pretty soon after arriving! Definitely do recommend it
Ok, here's what I would do. See what you have in the store. Then research those to find out which ones can be reasonably grown. Growing has parts that are kind of hard to do on a limited budget. Getting things sterile is the big thing.
You can grow portobellos. https://www.wikihow.com/Grow-Portobello-Mushrooms
The easiest way to start is buying a kit. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CD0KZ78/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_8H4JTQESVG944A29H687?psc=1
My first grow and I’m getting shrooms now. I used these grains
Sterilized Rye Berry Mushroom Substrate with Self Healing Injection Port (1) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CWHYKT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_HZYT3QW2JCFRYQNTP4X4 And mixed it with this substrate after in a mono tub.

Food should be fun
I’ve always wanted to try growing lions mane mushrooms and have it on my list. I think they have medicinal properties that aid in healing various ailments, as well as tasting good and fun to watch grow.
Here’s an example of a mushroom grow kit.
I actually have been getting these off of amazon and growing my own. Wife and got a shed and have converted it to a growing shed for mushrooms. As I see some such as morrels or lions mane in the forest I have been trying them out in the shed with mixed results,

pretty much everything by Back to the Roots. But don't take my word for it, there are hundreds of negative reviews about this awful "company". They and there product are a sick joke. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CD0KZ78?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I bought something similar to this https://www.amazon.com/Vegetable-32-Open-Seed-Vault/dp/B00LE4RGOE 7 years ago, i keep it in my freezer. I have some seeds from the package germinating under grow lights right now.
I bought a a couple of these two years ago. Still got one in my freezer. It's a good little variety. It used to be a lot cheaper...

I've been thinking of getting a couple dozen of those grow your own mushroom things on amazon. Maybe kitchens one day will just grow their own mushrooms. I think their high cost comes from how fast the spoil and that they're delicate.

I got it off amazon, its pre-made and sterilized and ready to inject... actually worked pretty well. Here is a link
