Loretta Chase's Lord of the Scoundrels has a scene of the H unbuttoning the h glove that is more sensual than most love scenes.
KJ Charles. The first installment is free on Amazon US right now. It has been for a while.
Oh do I have a series for you!
There's like 15 of them and they're by Lauren Willig.
The first one is called, The Secret History of the Pink Carnation
The first book is about a young woman in present day London who is trying to figure out who the infamous spy The Pink Carnation is. Through reading old letters, she learns that the Carnation was a female spy who was at odds with a male spy named The Purple Gentian who always felt the need to swoop in and protect her.
It's a historical romance and I absolutely love this series!
Every book has mixed reviews, especially once it hits "best seller" status and has a wide variety of people reading it, all with different tastes. Can you point to a single book that doesn't have some negative reviews? You will get mixed reviews here, too, since people here have varied tastes.
You can get free samples for nearly every book ever on Amazon. Here's the page for Strange & Norrell, which has both ebook samples and audiobook samples, so you can pick whichever you prefer.

Not a show (soon, I hope!), but there is the Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig.. Similar concept as the Bridgestone books, but with a spy/mystery thrown in - and dueling modern/Regency love/timelines.

The Work of Art by Mimi Matthews - This book is so good 😍
If you are interested in a historical fiction series, with a bit of action adventure and mystery, check out The Puzzle Box Chronicles. The first book, Wreck of the Gossamer, is free, I believe, on Kindle Unlimited
Mimi Matthews’ stuff is all closed door!
The Work of Art is currently free (us Amazon link, unsure about elsewhere
I haven’t tried that one yet, but I enjoyed The Lost Letter (second chance, scarred recluse hero) and A Holiday by Gaslight (old money/new money, grumpy hero, cozy Christmas)
That's like Jonathan Strange and Mr. Morrell, a huge, immersive fantasy novel filled with footnotes.
Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase The MMC doesn’t even know what hit him, and he can’t believe it when it happens. This book is exquisite.
The Magpie Lord series by KJ Charles meets 1, 3 and 4, although it is historical rather than high fantasy (alternate version of Victorian England). She is a fabulous author, but you don’t see her mentioned on this Reddit often as she writes primarily historical m/m romance rather than fantasy. Well worth reading!
The first book is free on Kindle at the moment (temporarily, not sure how long it will last). https://smile.amazon.com/Magpie-Lord-Charm-Magpies-Book-ebook/dp/B077J1BL2T/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3GQ93DDN2DZ06&dchild=1&keywords=the+magpie+lord&qid=1632798786&s=digital-text&sprefix=the+Magoie+&sr=1-1
It is free on Amazon UK and the link is below: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Work-Art-Regency-Romance-ebook/dp/B07SJM7XF6/ref=sr_1_3?_encoding=UTF8&dchild=1&keywords=The+Work+of+Art%3A+A+Regency+Romance&qid=1629992126&s=digital-text&sr=1-3
Thanks for posting this OP, it's always nice to pick these freebies up for my downtime between KU subscriptions.
Lord of Chance by Erica Ridley It's been on my TBR, just found out it's currently free (don't know for how long, though.)
It’s for the US version - maybe your settings are converting it.

Everyone on here, The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics is ALSO on sale for me in the .com store!! AUD$4.02 instead of AUD$9.86!!

I started out with Tessa Dare, Courtney Milan, Sarah MacLean, Cecelia Grant, and they remain some of my favorites. One author I haven't seen mentioned in the thread is Emily Larkin. I really love her stuff. She has some straight up Regency stories, but also has the Baleful Godmother series, which is light fantasy. I'm pretty sure Unmasking Miss Appleby is permafree on Kindle, if you want to give her a try. (That one isn't my favorite, but is pretty good.)
I also very much second the recs of KJ Charles and Cat Sebastian. :)
The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite f/f
This has been on the voting list for book club before but just missed out and since it is currently on sale for only $1.99 from Amazon I thought I might put it forth again...I have been wanting to get to it and I know I will if it is for book club!

As Lucy Muchelney watches her ex-lover’s sham of a wedding, she wishes herself anywhere else. It isn’t until she finds a letter from the Countess of Moth, looking for someone to translate a groundbreaking French astronomy text, that she knows where to go. Showing up at the Countess’ London home, she hoped to find a challenge, not a woman who takes her breath away.
Catherine St Day looks forward to a quiet widowhood once her late husband’s scientific legacy is fulfilled. She expected to hand off the translation and wash her hands of the project—instead, she is intrigued by the young woman who turns up at her door, begging to be allowed to do the work, and she agrees to let Lucy stay. But as Catherine finds herself longing for Lucy, everything she believes about herself and her life is tested.
Well, this is the first of an interesting historical fiction series. Can't speak yet about what the other books will be like, but this looks like a promising start.
