Also backing up the wool socks! As someone else mentioned, Darn Tough are great as are the Kirkland (Costco's brand) wool trail socks. I also basically live in these People's Socks that I got off Amazon. They're the thickest socks I own and are amazing for wearing with winter hiking boots (I've worn them for hours when out hiking in snowy 10F weather and my feet stayed warm!)
I wear merino wool socks and I love them. Mine are from an American company called People Socks. I get them on Amazon.
Edit: The hiking socks in the winter, and black crew socks in the summer. I wear tall socks with shorts and I don't care what anyone says.
I got a pack of 8 from amazon i think for between 15 to 20 bucks. Theyre just generic brand ones and i wear em for every run now. If i dont i get foot pain. Been a little over a year and theyre still like new and going strong!

These are the ones i have.
I bought a pack of compression socks from Amazon because I work in retail as a cashier/sales floor associate and usually in 8 hour shifts too. Working with them on versus without is such a huge different, both during and after. They really help! Especially since your doctor is recommending them to you, I totally second that.
If you want to look at the ones I bought, here’s the link!
I got these from amazon a month ago and they are by far the best I’ve had in a while!! Highly recommend! (I work on my feet all day so I really use them!)

These are my favorite ever from Amazon! Probably won’t make it in time for OPs flight.... in her case I’d recommend the ones in the yellow box from walgreens! $10/pair I think? Great in a pinch!
I've had these for 5 years and they work well with my Ariat boots with a tight fit because they suck up under the arches.

You think those socks are good? Try the Swiftwick socks. I only discovered them after 20 years of playing. Wish I had known earlier: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B004N3BAQI/
They don't get soaked like cotton socks, are slim, and compress just a little bit.
Ha, holy crap you're right, I didn't notice when I posted it.
I bought mine over a year ago. I think these are the latest model of the same sock, which are far more reasonably priced at $21.95 for an XL:

I just searched for the same title from the same company.
Yeah I figured they crinkle up like that when they get old. I'd probably stick with some nice wool hiking socks to fill the empty space instead. I like these
I'm super allergic to wool, and I wear Thorlo hiking socks with my boots in the winter. I'm pretty sure I picked them up at REI, but they are available online as well.
Edit: I think they may be these ones
I like People Socks for the winter.
