It should be compression but not too tight where it hurts. I tried a ton of bras these are all I'm comfortable in as recommended by others on here.....Women's Zip Front Sports Bra Wireless Post-Surgery Bra Active Yoga Sports Bras https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HZV198/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_XNKVBW85AWKW84KHK95Q
Congratulations!!! Also, once you're all healed up, you'll have SO MANY OPTIONS FOR NIPPLES. Tattoos, piercings, you name it.
I would ask the surgeon about the first surgical bra--most places will give you one or two at the surgery. Then you'll need a few for home if you don't want to rely on them.
I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HZV198/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_W4GYZPHQMNEHWCF6V8Y8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 they're SUPER comfy.
On the size chart, you'll want to go up at least two band sizes and go several cup sizes larger than your surgeon says your end size will be. My surgeon said I would be a 32B, I bought based on a 34D, and I couldn't wear that one for a week post op until swelling had gone down somewhat, haha.
ETA my favorite nipple tattoo idea I've ever seen is one photorealistic nipple and the other one is just text over an arrow pointing to the other that says "that is not a real nipple"
They're cotton so i intentionally shrank mine. I'm not sure you can guaranteed go down 2 sizes that way though.
I bought these zip front ones and love them, easy to get into and comfy enough to sleep in.
My doctor said to keep the front zip compression like bras on especially because of swelling and not wanting gravity to do it’s job because my boobs were ready to “fall into place” basically. I’m 3 weeks post op today and wear these: Women's Zip Front Sports Bra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HMR63H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share without the padding in them and they have helped a lot.
So happy for you and I wish you the best with your healing! If you’re struggling to find a bra, I suggest these! They’re sold in packs of two and I think the price is really reasonable! They zip at the front and the band doesn’t rest on the incisions, it rests lower. so they’re super comfortable! They do run a little small though (I’m a 34c post op and the large fits snug but tight which is perfect since I also needed a compression bra) so I hope that reference helps! It’s the one I’m wearing in my most recent post if you’d like to have a look :) good luck with the rest of your healing!! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XC7CY44/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_rIzVFbV8P6R56
I got these off of Amazon:

I found one on amazon here. There's more than one seller but the cheapest one is at $99. Looks like after a fucking year they're starting to become buyable without a markup.
“Ohh this, I got it training archery” it’s actually cooler of an excuse then most.
I’ve worked my share of sketchy jobs in bad hoods, unless you’re tactical GI joe or are paid to fight why worry about it. A bruise won’t make or break a idiots choice to rob ya or try to start something.
Or try these. UV Sun Protection Arm Sleeves - Cooling Sports Compression Multipack Athletic Sleeves for Men & Women - UPF 50 Arm Cover/Shield for Basketball, Running, Cycling, Golf, Baseball & Football https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RZMTCDW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_FehRFb20M8045
this isn’t officially a “sports bra” but i’ve been wearing them for the last few days (post op) and i think they would work great as sports bras! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HZV198/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm sorry you're going through this. You can also try wearing compression sleeves under your uniform shirt. Like this:
I use a head liner, skull cap whatever you want to call it. No more folded ears, and I don't have to clean the pads as much as I'm not sweating directly on them. I love this thing, and amazingly not hot under the helmet, and I'm in 100 degree weather...
My surgeon recommended a zip front sports bra from WANAYOU, here's an amazon link. They come in 2- or 3- packs for pretty cheap, happy healing!

Like most here, I was sent home in one and given an extra by the hospital. For some extras (to wear while washing), I went by band size. I'm pretty petite around the ribs (30-32) but anticipated some swelling, bloat, and tenderness, so I bought a medium in these.
These might fulfill your criteria! Supportive and front-closure but definitely not compressive.
>bra fitting recommendations??
Yep, same. I'm 3MPO and I still sometimes wear these! Have been having a heckuva time finding "real" bras for my mostly settled, post surgical chest.
Consider adding the UV sleeves as advice to your post. They are significantly cooler than a hoodie and with a t-shirt over them, you won't be able to see scars on shoulders or anything either.
The ones I have are a bit small (Amazon order and seem to be Asian sizing) so they only really comfortably go up to my elbows without feeling too tight but with a men's style t-shirt over them (the short sleeves are longer) they work fine still. And even as a female it doesn't seem weird to wear a men's shirt. Many women i know prefer the cut of them. 🤷♀️
Something like this is what I mean UV Sun Protection Compression Arm Sleeves - Tattoo Cover Up - Cooling Athletic Sports Sleeve for Football, Golf & Volleyball https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RZMTCDW/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_A9DVK6JS5QYDEBVPTVEZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Although they do make whole shirts out of the material too these go with whatever you already own, plus with black ones it isn't going to be obvious if a healing cut bleeds.
I just brought a regular pillow for the car ride home and was fine. I was out of the bra they put on me in the hospital after 3 days after my shower and I got front zip sports bras off Amazon. Women's Zip Front Sports Bra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XC7CY44?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share they’re great and really inexpensive! I would get some small ice packs you can put on your boobs for the swelling. The button-up pjs from Target are good too. I would also get out any button-up flannel shirt you have in your closest or go buy some so you have something to wear when you go out if you need to.
My compression bra might have been the most discomfort I felt for the first two weeks - I had a compression bra with big foam pieces starting 2DPO, then switched to a lighter compression bra after about 2 weeks. The compression and bands and foam were uncomfortable and made breathing feel harder, but then I was able to switch later and my swelling went down. For context, I had a lollipop incision with side lipo and a little lipo under, so the compression bands felt like they were digging into the bruising. I'm 3.5 weeks post op and doing great :)
These were great for after two weeks, once my dr said I could switch bras: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XC7CY44/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought these and they were perfect. I still wear them on occasion because they are comfy

I did get myself front zip sports bras like these ones from Amazon but I only wore them when the bra my surgeon gave me was in the wash, since he instructed me to wear that one 24/7 for a few weeks. I’m not 100% sure the size but I’m pretty sure I got medium, they’re stretchy and you want it to be a little tight/compressive
I had a breast reduction a little over a month ago and the Wanayou bras from Amazon have been great. Cheap and comfy. I can see wearing these down the road for yoga or around the house.

I can attest to this working well. I have similar sleeves to this:
I noticed in another comment you said you'll be working in a hot kitchen. These cool your arms down when worn, so getting hot shouldn't be an issue. If anyone asks I guess you could say you get sunburned easily, even when not in direct sunlight.
I haven’t tried exercising yet but I’ve been wearing these for the past few weeks. They seem like they’re built for speed! Haha but really they are super comfy and supported and padded (helps with nipple sensitivity)

I lived in these bras during post op, and at 8 months PO still wear them all the time. They are so comfortable.
hey!! i have this bra too!! i saw on your page that you're 7-8dpo and when i was at that part of my recovery, i had the same experience!! to alleviate this feeling, i stuck maxi pads in my bra to create a buffer/act as gauze for discharge and it really helped!! i'm 30dpo and i still wear this bra, and i don't have any discomfort anymore. i definitely think it's because i'm mostly healed now.
if you really want to try a new bra, try this one. they run a bit small, but they're super comfortable. i'm now a large 36D and wearing the XL!!

My PO bra is a loose sports bra- Women's Zip Front Sports Bra... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XC7CY44?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. I was specifically told it should not be compression. These so far have been comfy- I was a 34GG and got XLs and L (I’m a 34B ish after surgery). I’m 5 days PO in the XL (you want them to be comfy and loose to stuff gauze in) and they’re already becoming really loose as the swelling goes down. I may have to end up getting some M as well since I have to wear these only for the next 5 weeks
