When I started the gaming club, I invested in some extra-wide black yoga mats, which I cut down to create several 36"x36" play mats. I used an old toothbrush and a bit of white acrylic paint to lightly splatter some "stars" onto them. Each mat ends up costing about $13, and has lasted for years now with no signs of wear. My favorite thing about them is that the yoga mat surface is really grippy, which helps prevent accidental bumping of ships and asteroids. I like pretty much everything about them, really.

Yoga mat. Amazon
It's nice and grippy (much better than the wood table top we were playing on). Also, the mat is big enough that you can make 2 play surfaces out of it.
Yeah, I'm a big fan. Picked up on Amazon for like $25.
It's exactly the right size, and grabs the dice and ships really nicely. Definitely recommend it.
Most 24x72 (2ftx6ft) yoga mats are about 15 dollars on amazon. The 36x72 (2ftx6ft) yoga mats are about 25 dollars. 36x72x.2 Inche yoga mat
This is not lulu buuuuut I have had this chonky thick one from Amazon for 2 years and love it. It has ridges and doesn't slide. It's big but very lightweight. I know it's not aesthetic but my knees and wrists are a mess and this one actually offers nice cushy padding.
Is the only option to spend a bunch of time building a wooden frame?
Does anyone just sell an easy to assemble frame kit?
Would it be possible to just lay down some thick yoga mats to level everything out? (Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FO9U46W/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_N6X2DRXA6CW02425V0NB_0 )
I bought a mat similar to this one (mine is only 1cm thick) to exercise on my mother's suggestion, it is actually comfortable to use as it is thick.

This stuff works really well for me: https://www.amazon.com/Gaiam-Essentials-Fitness-Exercise-Easy-Cinch/dp/B07H9PZ42P/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3F23QEZZUXQRK&keywords=gaiam+exercise+mat&qid=1648694398&sprefix=Gaiam+ex%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-5
Worth a try to see if you like it since other foam is so damn expensive. This stuff is plush, like gel. I’ve made a few packs with it - it’s all I use now.
You can get it shipped from Amazon JP
Ima yoga Matt. If your looking for a good yoga Matt, I’m the guy but if your looking for a great yoga mat try Gaiam on Amazon I use the this one I have couple different ones from them. They stink for a few days but it clears up. They last long and very durable in my experience.
If you want a cheap (albeit less quality/ cool points) option. I bought a $20 USD yoga mat. Works well enough for me. You can also get a cheap yoga mat strap if you get tired of carrying it while it tries to unroll. Link below to example:
I bought mine in Canada on Amazon. Biarritz by square36 large exercise mat 6' x 4' (72" x 48") ideal for home workouts with or without shoes https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00HJC0FSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_4RTY34T9N7ACR05FTBFT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

This is a pretty good quality mat. I like the easy to carry around option too. Most colors are under $20. The thickness is a little more than most mats but it helps with joint pain. My feet hurt after using a thin mat on hard floors but rarely hurt after this one.

I got this and cut it to the size of my table. When not using it I just roll it up. Makes it so easy to pick up cards and helps from cards and boards from sliding around.
I did a lot of research on nonslip mats and ended up buying this one because it was $50 instead of $200+. I’ve had it for about a year now and I like it a lot! It really is nonslip and has held up really well.

I have the Amazon Basics Extra Thick Exercise Yoga Mat and it is holding up great! I wouldn't recommend this for actual yoga because it's so thick and makes balance difficult (so I have a regular thin yoga mat that I use exclusively for yoga), but this works great for general exercise, stretching, etc and seems very durable since it is so thick. And it still rolls up pretty tightly and doesn't take up much more space than my regular yoga mat.
Which one did you get? I'm trying to decide between this yoga mat and an equipment mat. I'm a bit worried of the yoga mat slipping or getting damaged when I jump with shoes on, based on reviews.
It’s the one in the thread above that I found. Since then, Square36 has updated the product description on Amazon to indicate it’s the same mat.

The Manduka is the yoga mat used in the yoga videos
If not the official Xwing mats cuz they fit the theme (you need two), there's an extra large rubber style yoga mat that is often recommended as well.
I bought this after having destroyed 2 rubber ones: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B079BK15PT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's amazing, no more hoovering after every use!!
I'm a UK player and I'd say you've got two options.
One is ordering a Junk Mat from Amazon Japan, and the other is ordering a Junk Mat from Mahjong Mart. Either way it's a topper for an existing table, and can only be used on a table surface that's larger than the mat, as it rolls up so doesn't have the rigidity to hang off the edges.
You can also get Light Mats from Amazon Japan for slightly cheaper, but they're not quite as good quality as Junk Mats and don't come with a carry bag.
For purposed mahjong tables (which aren't automatic ones) there aren't really any decent options. There are some things on eBay but most that I've seen seem really overpriced for what they actually are. It's usually cheaper to just buy a folding picnic table plus a mat.
I have an Iuga Pro mat from amazon. It has awesome grip and cushion. I don’t slide around at all during hot yoga. Only downside is it has a bit of a scent to it.

The Yoga Mat on Amazon is a great cheap alternative for $30. It's EXACTLY 3x6 and what's great is the material is super non-slip. So nudging is limited.
Hope this helps!!
this was the one recommended to me by another user in the sub. I need the additional padding to not put so much strain on my wrists and so far this mat has been good!
Personally, i could never get strap-on knee pads to sit right. Stupid as it sounds, I get best results from wearing pants with knee pad insert pockets, using a $20 yoga mat cut into pads. I have like ten pairs of work pants with pads in them now, and I've barely used up half of the mat.
If you will be flipping in one location (vs. flipping on the go, while walking or other travel), you might get less breakage by investing in a thick yoga mat to lay out beneath the flipping "zone". A yoga mat should do a great job of absorbing a lot of impact force.
