If you want to go with wood blocks you could just buy a pack like these: https://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Cubes-Square-Projects-Woodpecker/dp/B00DNN5HOK

And stain them yourself. It's not hard and probably pretty cheap. Glue some together for bigger creatures or buy a pack with differently-sized ones.

You would likely need those pictures though, to make them stay on the blocks, try clear tape if you don't need the paper images anymore after and what might work if you want it to be reuseable is gluing a paper clip to the block

Oh! Also forgot to add that the alphabet blocks were collectively designed by friends and family when we had a socially distanced outdoor baby shower in August. Each person got a goody bag with a wooden block and markers and was assigned a letter!
